Ok I've been having trouble with this dude...I've read the tips about casting magic resistance and then harm on him and it greatly reduces his hp but for some reason I can't cast harm. From then on, I'm keeping him busy with worthless skeleton dudes while I wail on him from long range with 2 archers and 2 mage type people. The mages don't do jack though since he's got magic resistance and harm didn't work. Any ideas to help me beat this guy?

Well if you have a F/M or a bard I like to cast Prot. From Magic wepaons and then get the attention on that fella, then get all the tanx around him and hack the shit out of him while the mages cast lower resistance then blast him with Abi Dazlams and other powerful offensive spells.

Casting only one lower magic spell is not enough. To have a good chance being able to cast your spells you need to lower it by at least 60%.

I am a Level 9 Paladin, I have Jaheira, Minsc, Yoshimo, Aerie, and Nalia. Maybe I am just too weak for this right now? Maybe I should just come back later?

no problem.... o and BTW..... If its ur first time then dont fight Firkraag until after the 'adventure' u go on (i.e. Chapter 6)
|
This is a very cheap way to kill Fikraag, but.....
I see you have Yoshimo in your party. Lay as many traps as you can, and then rest. Repeat process until you have around 20 traps. Force attack him from a distance. As soon as he turns hostile he dies. Its cheap but it works. |

Firkraag has a certain item that you will find extremely useful....especially on your 'adventure' that starts after chap 3..... Also, there is a quest that you will be given as part of your stronghold quest series (from the Order of the Most Radiant Heart) to kill the red lizard, and if you wait until you get the quest, you will get more EXP for doing it. |
If you still have a wand of cloudkill, just turn one of your characters invisible, have them wander until the henchmen is on the screen, then fire off a burst or three of cloudkill.
I tried it to kill the mage and ended up damaging Firkraag so badly that two arrows and a "Smite evil" finished him. No fuss, no muss. Not the most honorable tactic, but results are results. |
Another cheesy method (the one I finally had to use).
Cast Feeblemind on him. (Save the game first, because if the spell doesn't beat his Magic Resistance, he will be one mad lizard). However, once the Feeblemind takes effect, you can hack on him all day long and he will NEVER retaliate. He will just placidly sit there while your party hacks him to pieces. This is what I would do: Have Minsc get the dragon's attention, then make him run around the Dragon all the time. While Minsc is doing this, have Aerie and Nalia both cast 2 lower magic resistance spell. When the 4 lower MR are cast, have Jaeira cast harm on the Dragon. As soon as the spell is cast, have every character attack him with the fastest mean they have, before he can heal. [ 03-01-2002: Message edited by: Luvian ]</p> |

Each Mage (I have two , my main char and Nalia/Imoen) casts Lower Resist, the fighters attack. (pause game , issue the commands , unpause game) ...at this point the dragons magic resist is 40% lower than it was before The Dragon deals with the fighters. Dragon fear , fire breath , whatever. Just don't let your last cleric die you might need the ressurection. Each Mage Casts an Instant Kill. Polymorph Other and Feeble Mind are good. Avoid Disintegrate if you can it destroys most of the dragons treasure. If the dragon makes it's save (twice , once against each mage) , reload the game and try again. Sooner or later he'll blow it , and that's that for him. One mage can also do this (lower resist then polymorph) but that's a lot more reloads before you get that lucky (his magic resist was only lowered 20% , so it catches the polymorph far more often ) . Three mages usually get him after 1 or 2 tries, since it drops his magic resist 60% and now he has to save against three instant kills. He aint that lucky, no dragon is. Catch is a Three Mage Party probably isn't ready to deal with the final battle againt Jonny Boy..something I found out the hard way |
