Is it possible to start out as a mage/sorcerer and later be effective with a bow or light armor?
Since this is such a big game I don't want to make the wrong choice. I am not going to pick a race dependant on class. That is just no fun. Powergaming never appealed to me. I just want to make sure the game is still fun and playable by mixing skills to use what you want. |
I suggest you start with light armor even if you are a mage. unarmored combat sucks.
Major and minor skills are just those who improve faster and allow you to gain levels, but you can train ANY skill to the maximum (100, or the current value of the attribute governing that skill - ex. strength 79 => heavy armor max 79 until you gain strength by leveling). So using bows is just a matter of training, no matter what class you choose. Maybe that's the fault of morrowind, you can be powerful at any skill, with no exception. yes, you can. just put the skill that you think you'll use the most in major or minor skill. also, get a race that can give bonus to your magicka. plus get a sign that give bonus to magicka. why? you'll notice those bonus to magicka might help you greatly in letting you cast more and powerful spell. it also save you from the constant frustration when your magicka runs out too fst amd too early. believe me it will. ;)

Is there a lot of cool stuff in Morrowind for a sorcerer? Cool staff's, robes, etc?
|
yes, there's some noteworthy ones.
also, remember that in morrowind you can enchant item. got a normal staff? just enchant it. ;) |
... just too bad any own enchanted item will never be as powerful as some legendary artifacts you can find scattered around. There is a maximum enchantment in objects, and it usually is far from enough to replicate the magnitude of enchantment of the aforementioned masterpieces.

Hmmm... at level 50 you are halfway to Lord Vivec. You SHOULD be that good. I guess the problem is in the quality of items...
|
it's not the quality of items. it's whether you can dodge vivec spell or not. ;)

I've been thinking about this whole enchantment limit thingy quite a bit lately. It bugs me that in order to create my own super item, it has to be an item that seems out of character for the class i'm currently playing. Why can't my super items be made out of common stuff? I really think that there should've been some option/quest/service (however elite) that serves to raise the enchantment potential of whatever item you choose. Unfortunately, i don't know how to implement this feature into the game. I've had to settle on creating a mod that has a high level telvanni that sells a variety of common items and weapons with suped up enchantment limits. Oh well. |

yes I know, but if you are level 1 and have too few hp. you'll need to dodge.

go try at level 1. it's the ultimately challenge for a morrowind gamer.
|
It's impossible. you cannot hit him, he's too fast. And even if you manage by chance to intersect your weapon with his skin, it will barely scratch him
|
I said level 1, I never said anything about not training your skill. ;)
|
Training weapon/magic skill to 100 and armor as well, getting good equipment and then try the feat? It's damn difficult to get all those skill points and never level up. I guess you would need to put armor and weapon/magic skill as misc and useless skills as major/minor, and still be careful , or avoid sleeping. I might try that one of these days.
Ah, you will need security 100 to open the lock to Vivec's palace. Remember you are an uninvited guest. |
yes, people always boast that they defeated Vivec at level 1, but they never tell how their character is. ;)
also, I never said anything about not using TES : editor for godly items or not using console command for attributes changes. ;) |
Or using the alchemy routine to boost your stats up to crazy levels...
|
Tricks within the game are accepted, Kakero. But console commands and TES godly items are cheating. And anybody can win cheating. I guess you could even kill dagoth ur with a good enough item... he regenerates hp and is invulnerable, but if you deal, say, 1000 damage in a hit, he should die.
|
nobody will know that you use cheat to win if you didn't tell them in the first place. they'll always think that you defeated vivec with a level 1 character.
|
Only if they are fools ;) . And obviously there is something about your dignity...
|
vivec's spell is like lightning poison frost and drain health all in one
|
Quite a punch. But if you dodge it and he runs out of mana, he's dead meat.
