I made a potion that fortifies and restores strength. However it also drains luck. Now if I had added an ingredient (or two?) that restores or fortifies luck to that potion, would that cancel out the negative affect to luck?

Also does my alchemy skill have an impact on how powerful my potion is? I know the quality and quantity of apparati does, but does my alchemy skill only determine whether I'm successful or not, or also the potency of the potion as well?

Thanks

mix two thing together will have undesirabe effect. so it's kinda not advisable. try using an alembic to decrease the drain luck thing.

you want to make your potion more powerful. raise your intelligence. the higher the better. higher alchemy skill also help in making successful potion. you can also use it to recognize the ingredient properties.

Hmm well I was using a master's alembic; I have all the apparati at master's level, actually, and my potions are so powerful! Better than that rubbish you buy! :D

What sort of undesirable effect? Would they not cancel out then? Why not? And if one of my ingredients has a negative effect, do you still need two ingredients that have that negative effect, or does just one do it? Like in my strength potion, I had one ingredient that fortified and restored strength, one that restored strength plus some other positive thing, and one that fortified strength and drained luck. Now obviously those ingredients did other things that I don't know about (alchemy only 30), so did one of them drain luck but I just can't tell or do you only need one ingredient for a negative effect?

Any two ingredients with the same effect add that effect to the potion, whether it's positive or negative.

as I said mixing tow different thing together have undesirable effect. though you can test that out. ;)

How else can I make potions but mix things together? It wouldn't let me just use two of the same ingredient

Kakero 04-05-2003 05:20 PM

ehh? did you try using a Mortar or a Pestal ?

Aelia Jusa 04-05-2003 06:42 PM

LOL. I have made potions already so obviously I have the apparati ;) . I tried to use 2 units of saltrice to make a healing type potion and it said I needed at least 2 different ingredients to make a potion. Using one saltrice and a different ingredient (don't remember what) made a potion successfully.

Kakero 04-06-2003 12:29 AM

emmm..when you said apparati what is the apparati? can you tell me for future reference?

B_part 04-06-2003 05:28 AM

"Apparatus" in Latin means tool. The plural, however, isn't "apparati", but "apparatu". I think the meaning in english is quite the same, although I don't know about the correct plural form.

Aelia Jusa 04-06-2003 04:27 PM

In english we use apparati as plural.

Sorry Kakero, by apparati I meant I have all the equipment. Masters level mortar and pestle, alembic, calinator and the other thing of which I've forgotten the name ;)

ahh me see, thanks for clearing that up.

is grandmasters better than secret masters? Or is it the other way around?

Kakero 04-12-2003 05:53 PM

grandmaster is better than master. like every other game out there.

JLSheesley 04-22-2003 04:09 AM

1. No you can never get rid of the drain luck side effect but yes if you add two other ingredients that restores luck you can offset it. However I think you can only get the potion that fortifies and restores strength if you use three ingredients so you can't do it with that potion as you don't have two slots left.

2. yes your alchemy skill as well as your intelligence and apparati effect the power and potency of your potions. The higher they are the longer you potions will last and the more powerful they will be.

Secret masters apperatus is better than grand masters. only problem is i don't believe there is any in the game. i never found it and the editor says there are 0 in the game. if you find it, keep it.

Kakero 04-22-2003 06:14 AM

ehh? there's no grandmaster something in the game? I swear in one of the thief guild quest the boss want me to steal a grandmaster something from someone.

B_part 04-22-2003 07:43 AM

Yes, there are grandmaster alchemy tools around, but secret master are better. Simply, they aren't in the game, as Bruce pointed out. They must be included in a mod to be used. The reason why is that they are unbalancing:

Why are the Secret Grand Master appartus not included in the standard game?

The Secret Grand Master apparati are simple said, overpowerful. The difference of 0.50 plus from the Grand Master equipment make potions about 30% more efficient in duration and points!
With this equipment even a moderatly good alchemist can make extremely powerful potions!
With your Alchemy skill at 100 and this equipment the effects are best shown with a quote from "Zoopster":
"So instead of a Fortify Intelligence potion that boosts INT 66 pts for 183 seconds, you now have a potion, made with the same ingredients, that boosts it by 88 pts over 286 seconds."
(Zoopster is a forum member at offical elderscrolls forums.)
