I am a sort of newbie here. I have played the game once, but it was too boring somewhere around Vivec. Now, I'd like to give it a second chance.

1) Is there any must-have plug-in for the game? Something as Tactics for BG2? What are the most popular plug-ins? Is there AD&D one (yeah, right)?
2) Are there real magic items - every item I've found uses charges?
3) What is "fortify"? I take it prevents ability draining.
4) Is there any sex in the game? :D Does gender have any influence on dialogs?
5) Persuasion: does it matter how high the reputation is when I admire? If it is zero, it never succeeds. What is the use of intimidate? Taunt is used to get people to attack you, IIRC.
6) Which race to take for bard?

TheSlayer 03-06-2003 09:54 AM

Second chance is goooood...

1) Really dont know.
2) Real magic items? Why is a charge-using item not 'real'? But there are Constant Effect items in the game if that is what you mean.
3) Fortify is the same as a bonus (Fortify Strength 50 - +50 Strength)
4) No sex, gender does matter.
5) Reputation does not affect admire, but I believe it affects peoples starting disposition. Intimidate is a Admire for less skilled speekers - it will raise peoples disposition towards you, but only as long as you are in dialogue - as soon as you leave it will drop below its starting value.
6) Depends on what skills you plan to use.

Imo, a must have plugin is your own personal residence, you can stash tons of goodies in them. I have two residences, one in balmora, the other in Vivec.

And yes, there IS sex in Morrowind, although you don't get to see it. It's a plugin, and if i'm not mistaken you can go to that town where there's a nightclub (forgot the name), and "rent" a woman for the night. It actually improves some of your skills, like endurance. :D

TheSlayer 03-06-2003 11:35 AM

I didnt know that plug-in... but then again, I know as much as zero plug-ins.

But really the anwser would still be 'No', as there arent sex in the original game. There are so many different plug-ins that if you should take every one of them into consideration when anwsering a question, it would be impossible to anwser any. Just as the anwser to the question: 'what is the best blunt weapon in the game' would be: Sunder, there would always be mods which change that fact.

So the question 'is there any sex in the game' would have the anwser no, even though that may be changed by mods.

1 - There are a ton of good plugins, ranging from houses to items to dungeons. Moon's Spawn is a fabulous dungeon for higher level characters. Most of the plugins can be downloaded at morrowindfiles.com, and there are more on the official site, all of which work nicely. At morrowindfiles you can read a description and ratings before you download.
2) There are constant effect enchantments - and every enchanted item can be recharged by sleeping. How long you need to rest depends on how many charges the item had to begin with.
3) Fortify does exactly what it says - adds points to a skill or attribue.
4) No
5) Persuasion is controlled by Speechcraft/Personality, not reputation.
6) Never play bards (except in Wizardry), so no opinion.

No, Admire, Taunt and Intimidate are all controlled by Speechcraft. Personality affects people's starting disposition towards your character, as does Reputation.

4)What about Crassius curio, the head of house hlaalu in Vivec? he kept calling my female char sweetie, wanted to be kissed and so on... Does that change if you char is male? I have never played a male char so I can't tell.

TheSlayer 03-06-2003 02:22 PM

No, its the same for men. THAT is why he is so famous...

Kakero 03-06-2003 03:55 PM

1. children of the night mod is quite famous too. but it's just too big. like 80++mb to download.

2. all magic item in the game got chargers. this chrages will slowly depleted when you use them. however this charges will also replenish itself. There are also magic item that got constant effect. constant effect item don't deplete it's chargers

3. it increase you skill or stat

4. not really that much different. but only a few npc will change the dialog according to your gender

5. get your speecraft as high as possibe, that way you can persuade people better.

6. Halfling, but there's no halfing in the game. and there's no musical instrument to play in the game.

Vedran 03-07-2003 07:32 AM

Thank you for answers, people.

1) Question is still open.
2) I don't like that system with charged items. I can't remember finding more than one or two constant effect items.
3) Ahhh. I was translating "fortify" as "strenghten" or "defend", but it is also "enrich" and "improve". Thanks for clearing that out.
4) And speaking about Crassius, he asked my first char to undress to be initiated in Hlaalu House. Weird.
5) Disposition, that's what I had on mind (not reputation). Is it easier/harder for admire to succeed if the current disposition of NPC is 90?
6) I was asking from roleplayer's point of view, but please, don't let me do something stupid.
I shall make Blade, a combat oriented Bard:
Abilities: Personality and Agility;
Major: Sneak, Acrobatics, Marksman, Speechcraft, Mercantile;
Minor: Athletics, Long Blade, Light/Medium Armor, Security, Alchemy.
What sign (constant effect), what race?
I'd like to throw some spell school in there. All sugestions and advices are wellcomed.
What is the bug with Mercantile? Someone said it is best keep it low, why?

Kakero 03-07-2003 08:30 AM

2) there lot's of constant effect items in the game. so much that you'll need 6 rack to keep them all.

4) yeah, his like that.

5) it's your speecraft skill actually that makes dealing with npc easier. the higher your speechcraft is the better you can bribe, intimitate, taunt, admire.
Disposition is the npc feeling towards you. you'll notice the npc conversation towards you differ with your disposition percentage.

okay, since you don't have any magic skill, choose the lady or the thief as your sign.

Merchantile skill should be kept as low as possible. this is because when you got high merchantile, you'll buy things from merchant at lower price BUT you'll also sell things to merchants at lower price too.

TheSlayer 03-07-2003 08:56 AM

About Mercantile: Everyone says you should keep Mercantile low. Everyone says Mercantile is bugged. Bah! Of course you get lower prices! 'Alright, Ill just take that sword for 50 Septims... and then you can take this sword which is 100% identical to your sword for... hmm, what shall we say? 25 Septims? Deal.'
It DOES make sense. Its also just a matter of actually using Mercantile - if you just buy/sell items like that, without trying to get a good price, you wont. You have to have patience and modify the price. You will notice that if you both increase the price of what you sell, and lower the price of what you buy, you WILL get a good price.

of course TheSlayer, I never bothered with such bugs, I made my merchantile skill as high as possible because emm...I better not spoil the original poster.

What magic school should I take? I am a fighter/thief/(mage) Something for backup, buffing, etc. Illusion?

Kakero 03-07-2003 03:11 PM

for starters, take Restoration. those healing spell is handy and you'll need it.
Since you have markmanship there's no need for destruction.

TheSlayer 03-07-2003 06:42 PM

Well, I always recommend Illusion.
