I'm kind of curious as to WHAT kinds of items people are enchanting. My problem is that I've been goofing around so much with custom character creation I'm way behind the curve... Akin to the Wizardry 8 problem with the "perfect party syndrome."

Mostly I make electric long-swords. And amulets of healing.

slackerboy 05-21-2002 11:59 PM

see my thread on the Soul-gem-o-matic for one of my swords. my two most used are a steel katana with 3-7 fire damage for 2 seconds on strike

and my new ebony longsword 3-7 damage health 2 seconds
3-8 spark damage 2 seconds on strike

I'm saving up to make an amulet with 100-100 open on target

I enchanted some note I found in the beginning of the game to shoot fireballs! Then when I looked at it again it was a bunch of funny runes instead of what it said before. The problem was, when I used it, it disappeared.
So far... that's been about all I could make successfully...

Rokenn 05-23-2002 06:41 PM

Made 2 last night. Since I am playing a monk I can not make a soul-a-matic weapon, so I made a glove to do the same thing. Called the "Left hand of the damned" =) Also made a pair of shoes with water walking.

Rolandthemad 05-23-2002 06:49 PM

Can`t monks use blunt weapons? I am at least. I made an electric warhammer. :>

alright i got a twilight creature in a grand soul gem and i wanna put enchantment into sword but says to much enchantment.. whats my limits for that grand of a gem?and does it matter what the type of sword is? (glass, deadric, ebony)

Avenstar 05-25-2002 02:48 PM

The reason your piece of paper disappeared is because when you enchant any piece of paper, it becomes a magic scroll with one use of the enchantment, same as store bought ones.

each item has a specific amount of enchantment it can hold regardless of charges given by the soul gem
the top left of the enchantment window has a stat listed in this format x/x. when the first value is equal to the second value it is maxed out. as far as the soul gem goes, you just have to make sure that your charges are greater than the casting cost of your item.

my new weapon is particularly "usefull"
Ebony longsword with 10pt of calm creature for 15 seconds and 10pt of calm humanoid for 15 seconds on strike.
They get mad, they attack you, you hit them, then they just stand there while you pull out another sword and beat them down with it.
This sword seems to be a bit buggy though, when i'm in a dungeon and i use this sword, about 1/4 times the game crashes. never happens outdoors though, i cant quite explain it.

I have some ideas for completely useless enchanted items :D like a glove that has a constant effect of bound gauntlets. (you put on the glove it summons the gauntlets, they replace your glove, the spell goes away. Ha, an unwearable item.
just want to play around with some possible logic flaws in the enchantment process :D .

Raederle 06-01-2002 08:08 PM

My shirt has soul trap, one glove (these are pretty I'll keep them) has cure common disease the other cure poison, I have three amuliets with minor (10pts) medium (40pts) and major (90pts) heals that between them free me from healing potions for the most part. Potions handle cure blight disease and paralyzation (you can use a potion while paralyzed).

I still use the fiend katana for things that can be hit by magic only, but would like to put cast when strikes absorbe life on the sword. Flight is absurdly expensive so I use potions, but fortify fatigue is absurdly cheap, and on my pants. Once I can affort it some spell absorbtion will go on the shield.

The theme behind all of this is anything needed mid combat goes on a potion, anything needed once in a while goes in an enchant. I havent balanced out telekinesis but I'd like an enchanted item for it, ditto light. And the spell points are saved for things rare enough not to warrnet carrying gear around for it, such as 100% locks or restoring speed etc. I think I make camp once every 5 to 10 days.

Anyone found a way to enchant the bow or crossbow yet?

[wcip]Angel 06-01-2002 08:14 PM

I made a ring with +24 to strength

lethoso 06-02-2002 10:03 AM

a question, i killed a golden saint, and it is now sitting happily in a soul gem. If i wanted to enchant something with continuous levitate, what is the least amount of levitate i should put on it?

slackerboy 06-02-2002 01:25 PM

if i remember correctly, when i used one of those really expensive amulets which gives 140 enchant points and tried to make a constant effect levitate item, the max i could get was 8 points of levitate which i didnt actually try, because it didnt seem like it was worth it.

Has anyone found an item with 150 enchant points? thats what i really need, then i can quit carrying potions all together. I have rings and trinkets to do everything i ever need.

DraconisRex 06-02-2002 02:07 PM

Slacker,

The problem comes from dual-enchantments. You can put multiple enchantments on something, but the X/Y costs are prohibitive. I've had to give up on my Daderic Armour "shirt." Sure, it's exquisite, but after two armor types are put on...

So, I'm going to go with a "Bound Curiass" for 249 seconds. It'll bump my armor from 9 to 30... The rest will be standard armor.

SpongeBob SquarePants 07-14-2002 10:33 AM

the sponge is confused, how the hell do you enchant ? do you need to speak to some one about it , or can you enchant stuff yourself ? and this soul gem stuff, how do you go into battle and select it to collect the soul of the creature or person you wanna kill, ? CONFUSED.............. you will be !!!!!!!!!!!!

ps, spent the entire night last nite talking to two orcs in some mansion mear vivic, just to get my speach craft to 100, im off now to jump on the spot to raise my acrobatics skill, is any one else as sad as me ?

truly yours,

the sponge

Paladin2000 07-14-2002 11:55 PM

SpongeBob,

DIY enchant

1. You need a decent skill in enchantment (60+) and high INT rating (60+) and plenty of luck or you will fail a lot of times. That my advice, download the "enchant_success.esp" to save you a whole lot of headache. You will still fail though, but you chances of success is increase dramatically with this plug-in.

2. You need a soul gem with a soul trapped inside.

3. You need a thing in to the enchant (armor, weapons are clothes)

4. You need to purchase the spell effect for the enchantment. For example, if you want to enchant a ring that heals, you will need to purchase any healing spells first.

Pay for Enchant
1. You need a soul gem with a soul trapped inside.
2. You need a thing in to the enchant (armor, weapons are clothes)
3. You need to purchase the spell effect for the enchantment. For example, if you want to enchant a ring that heals, you will need to purchase any healing spells first.
4. You will need to plenty of money to pay up for the enchantment. Depending on the enchantment you want, the price might be quite costly.

Trap a soul in you empty soul gem
1. Each soul gem type have certain capacity, the higher the quality of the soul gem, the higher capacity it has. Higher level monsters will yield higher capacity and hence, they will only go into soul gems of a higher quality (Greater or Grand Soul Gem)

2. You need to purchase a Soul Trap spell or get a weapon with Soul Trap enchantment.

3. Cast soul trap during combat and hack the monster into pieces. if the Soul Trap spell is still active and if you do have the require soul gem to hold the monster's soul, the soul of the creature that you have just killed will be trapped into the soul gem.

How to enchant

DIY method:
1. right click to bring out your inventory window and equip any trapped soul gem. This will activate the enchant window. Select the item to be enchanted and the spell effect. Notice that at the bottom left of the windows there is a little box labelled as "Cast when strike" or "Cast when used". This is the box that determines how the enchantment is used. Obviously for weapons, "Cast when Strike" is a more suitable effect. BTW, only Grand Soul Gem with 80K of Soul will only have the "constant effect" option enabled.

2. Notice that you cost of casting the effect must not exceed your soul gem's total charges or the enchantment will not work. Therefore you can forget about enchanting a 100-100 fire damage with your petty soul gem. Please also take note that each item (weapons, armor or clothes) have its own enchantment capacity. So, if you have a Grand Soul Gem (Golden Saint), you will not be able to enchant 100-100 fire damage because you Imperial Broadsword has only a mere enchantment capacity of 7.

Pay for enchanment:
Almost same as above except that you choose the "enchant" option in the NPC's dialog window. The NPC enchanter will never fail but the he/she will charge you for the enchantment service and they usually don't come cheap.

Hope that helps.... ;)

Rimjaw 07-15-2002 12:06 AM

Also, Soul Trap only works on Monsters. Not regular NPCs (Commoners etc).

Well I did at one point jump off guard towers on a regular basis to boost acrobatics.

Ok, my favorites:

Steel Katana - Casts (when strikes) Soul Trap for 5 seconds on touch and Damage Health to 30? (maybe 20) points on touch.

Ebony Longsword - Casts (when strikes) Restore Health 10 points on self and Restore Fatigue 20 Points on self. Can fight all day with this one as the casting cost was kept intentionally low.

Daedric Mask (helmet) of Fear - Constant effect Restore Health 3 points/second. It works better than it sounds.

Orcish Tower Shield - Restores all 8 attributes 30 points (Strength, Int, etc...) when used.

Exquisit Amulet - Summon Golden Saint (for use with Steel Katana & Grand Soul Gems)

And a variety of other gizmos and gadgets. My poor Orc hasn't slept more than 1 hour at a time since I made that gauntlet that restores fatigue using a Golden Saint's soul. Can't remember the last time I actually had to use a healing scroll or potion.

Also, for kicks, I made a long sword that healed the target to see how long I could beat on the same enemy before killing them. It was a fun way to train my weapon skills up.

Bruce The Aussie 07-15-2002 03:21 AM

so far i've only made a nordic broadsword with soultrap and an ebony helm of levitaion, wich has constant levetation at 1 point (mixed with the boots of speed and i can go anywhere)

Kakero 07-15-2002 03:37 AM

here I go, :D

Daeric lavitation boots = levitate spell.
Daeric Healing shield = +100 to hp per cast
Excusite Shirt of stamina regeneration = +1 constant stamina
Excusite pants of stamina healing = +5 to stamina per cast ( I use this just in case )

that's all that I enchant, the rest are found from my exploration.

Rimjaw 07-15-2002 04:23 AM

If your not a spellcaster, then I recommend at least enchanting one item with the levitation spell since it comes in very handy in the game.

Zero Alpha 07-15-2002 05:12 AM

Hi. i want to create a 100 - 100 constant effect camelion glass helm but the glass wont take it. so can i enchant 4 things with camelion 25-25 to get a total of 100 - 100 or do i need to do something elce. i only ask because i dont want to go to the trouble of getting four soul gems with white saints in them only to realise that, i cant to it. also, can anyone tell me where the person to train my enchant up to 100 is? my younger brother (Bruce The Aussie) said you guys might know.

The Enchant Master trainer is a little tricky. To avoid posting a spoiler here, go to http://home.austin.rr.com/shakti/morrowind but beware, he has spoilers for everything. You want to look at the book of secrets either via the plug-in or the web version.

Zero Alpha 07-16-2002 08:36 AM

Thanks 'Da Coroner' for the help but i started a thread already attached to a *Spoilers* tag so any info can be conveyed there. however i read the info you found and thats a great site, i think i may end up using some of the tricks he's put in there

(p.s. how should i abbreviate names on this board? should i just call you Coroner?)

Thanks

Constant Effect – “Invisibility” on an Exquisite Necklace I named “Invisible Pass” to avoid conflict in Vivec when doing the Main Quest. I have also used it while travelling in open country and expending 87 bolts on 73 Cliff racers. Yes, I was averaging 6 to 8 Cliff Racers per grid (grid borders = that screen pause you get when you are traveling).

Constant Effect – “Night Eye, 20 points” on an Exquisite Belt I named “N.O.D.S.” (Night Observation and Detection System). Beats raising the Gamma in the Options screen.

Constant Effect – “Restore Fatigue, 2 points” on Exquisite Pants so I could run all the time vice slowwwly walk from quest point to quest point when fast transportation was not available. I did not do this with my 2 characters until they were over level 40 and 100 at the magic/weapons of mass destruction required to run defiantly through rabid animal infested areas and (now) wimpy smuggler/slaver caves.

Tinkered with Destruction, Mysticism (Trap, Mark and Recall) and Alteration (Open, Levitate) spells on various wearable items, but prefer to cast myself to raise skills.

Avoided using “Cast on Strike” enchantments because most late game adversaries have “Reflect” active and I found myself beating myself to death

Lox 08-16-2002 04:21 PM

I know this is an old thread, but I finally got to the point where I can make some cool stuff. Here's what I got so far:

Skeleton Key: Open 100 pts on touch
Everlast Pants: Restore Health 2pts Constant
Everlast Skirt: Restore Health 2pts Constant
(wanted to make this a robe, but got tired of looking for one with enough enchantment potential, so now I wear a skirt, but I do wear pants under the skirt.)
Everlast (Glass) Greaves: Restore Fatigue 3 pts constant

Anti-Grav Ring: Levitate 4pts constant
Ring of Invis.: Invisibility constant

Burning Ring of Fire: (apologies to Johnny Cash)
Weakness to Fire 100% on target
Fire Damage 62 to 63 on target

Freeze Ring: Same as above, but Frost damage (eventually I'll get the whole set, poison and shock)

Unnamed Belt with Night-Eye 40% constant
Unnamed Glass Helm with Light 10 pts constant
Unnamed Glass Cuirass with Night-Eye 15% constant

These last three are to complement the Boots of Blinding Speed. I'm a Breton so the first 50% was taken care of.

Wakizashi of Unhealth (terrible name)
Daedric Wakizashi with Damage Health 33 to 34 pts on strike.

But my crowning achievement so far is my Atronach Army Amulet. Summon Fire Atronach for 32 secs and Summon Frost Atronach for 34 secs. Only later did I realize the have weaknesses to each other and use area attacks

So has anyone tried a constant summon effect? I can't decide if it's worth it, because if the creature dies, you have to re-equip the item to re summon it. For me, the whole point of constant effect is to save the hassle of re-equiping the item. (one of my dislikes of the game is the inventory/magic management.)

Another question: there is a restore majicka effect for potions, but does it exist as a spell? (doesn't make much sense to cast a spell to regenerate majicka) I wanted to complete the everlast set with a constant effect regen 2pts majicka. Probably be very expensive if it exists at all.

Well, I found another 4 or 5 grand sould gems late last night, so I guess its back to Ilnubi (sp?) this weekend to get some more souls. Not sure what other constant effects I want, though, and I'm running out of things to enchant, so I may have to find a good jeweler or clothier.

Paladin2000 08-16-2002 05:19 PM

There is no such spell as restore magicka but there is a plug-in somewhere in the net which adds the spell "restore magicka". I think the spell is call "Fool's recharge" since it cost more mana to cast than the amount of the mana restored. The author said that he has purposely done it so that this spell is only useful for enchantment. ;)

I can't remember where I saw the plug-in though...

/)eathKiller 08-19-2002 09:45 AM

I've got a green glass longsword sword that can summon 3 greater bonewalkers and it also does loads of damage as it is. I also enchanted my glass boots so that they could cast levitation and my Demon Katana allows me to create a bound long sword, though I didn't create it, which as far as I can see, does more damage than any other long sword in the game. OH and there's my Lord's Mail, which is very handy. Does anybody know of a place where I could equip some magic on my glass gauntlet, a summon monster spell preferably.

Insane62383 09-04-2002 01:43 PM

How can i get my enchantment skill up higher.... everytime i try to make something it NEVER works.... i'm almost at 50, haven't made a darned thing, and i don't have enough gold to actually get someone to make something for me...can someone plase help me out.... where can i possible find ALOT OF GOLD!!!!

Insane62383 09-12-2002 04:23 AM

How can you make a shirt or whatever a unique item that fortifies your strength or other skills, i'm lost on how to do this?

Lox 09-12-2002 08:19 AM

You raise your enchant skill by using enchanted items and by successfully making items yourself. I know its kind of a Catch-22, because it's really hard to make your own items. I suggest getting a lot of small soul gems and killing a lot of rats. Then practice making throw away items with small effects. These should be easier to create than the powerful items you will actually want to use.

For my character, enchant is a major skill, but it's still only around 60 (char level is in the 30's). I have amassed over 600k in gold, so I just buy my items. It's less frustrating.

As for enchanting a shirt, you do it just like you would do any other enchantment. You need to make sure that your character knows the fortify attribute spell (any attribute will do). You can only make enchanted items with spells that your character knows. Even if you buy it.

Insane62383 09-12-2002 02:41 PM

600k gold........ thats 600 thousand gold...... thats 600,000 gold....... how in the helk sinky did you get that much gold? Please let me know

Golden Saints and Daedra drop some expensive stuff. There are two merchants in the game that buy and sell at cost. One has 5000 gold and the other 10000 gold. You start of selling them 1K, 2K and 5K gold items. Then you sell them a 20K item for 10k in gold and 10k in items. Sleep for 24hrs and they replenish their gold. Then sell them the 10k in items you got from them last time. It's slow and boring, but you can make 10k a day if you have the loot. It's gotten to the point that I just drop off the valuable stuff near the merchant and if his gold is replenished, I'll sell him 10k worth of stuff. I've stopped camping near the merchant though.

If you want to know where they are, post again and I'll start a spoiler thread.

andora20 09-14-2002 09:07 AM

So far I've only managed to enchant a few things one was an imperial broadsword which I enchanted to absorb health cast when strikes. I enchanted a silver axe with poison damage, but I made a mistake and used cast when used. I enchanted an expensive amulet called the Jesus Principal with levitation, but I messed up and uses cast on target!!! I enchanted a Nordic battle axe with disentigrate armour on it which wasn't much use. But by far my favouritest weapon so far that I enchanted is called Armigens Fury. Its enchanted with Shock damage and absorb health. One good whack will even bring a golden saint to its knees!! I'm now looking for a silver warhammer two-handed to enchant with fortify strength and possibley damage health and I'm gonna call it "The Gentle Persuader"

I just made an enchanters dream weapon!! I found an ebony short sword and enchanted it with a winged twilight so that it casts soul trap for 50 sec on strike. No more casting the spell and then trying to attack. Now it is just attack!! I have filed up dozens of soulgems since I made this thing.

Grungi 11-04-2002 06:20 AM
