It now says this path to my destination/prophecy or whatever is now blocked. I cant chat with him anymore, he says "goodbye" and thats it.
Anyone have a clue where i should pick up my main quest thread now ? This was only the second time i visited him, after delivering that cube to that other guy. Im a mage and i kill and steal/plunder everything i come across (i use items to unlock or just spells which i had custom made up to 100 pts to unluck chests etc). I've killed lots and lots of store owners after i sold them all my stolen goods and they didnt have any money anymore to give me for my items. I then stole theirs and sold to the next trader and so on. I've also killed storeowner mages etc to get their items (why buy it when you can steal it ). Hell i've plundered treasuries in vivec (that was great , just need the key from a noble hehehe ) and killed a load of nobles to get the stuff i wanted from them. However, only once in some kinda stronghold, i killed an npc to see what he had on him, the game told me to reload a saved game coz otherwise after killing this person i'd have to live in a doomed world and no way possible for me to follow the main quest to finish the game. So naturally i did reload the game and left him alive (i always quick safe before killing any person so i can decide to leave them alive or not if they dont have anything special on them). The same happened after i test-killed caius after he told me i was thrown out of the blades. This to see if i would get the same message. Apparently i can still follow the main quest, just my question is where do i pick it up again ? I'm currently a lvl 13 mage with reputation of 3 and rank 4 or whatever in the mage guild and trying to find my way into talvanni house (forgot the exact spelling but thats the house i wanna join coz they seem hard to get into and kinda seem elite). Ofcourse i've seen a couple times that my crime had been reported but only for stealing stuff, not for murdering, so then i pay that little bounty of 80 gold max and go on where i left of. Only thing i can think of was that i made that bloodbath to get rid of the bad people that the legionair in the fort asked me to do. I just attacked the people there, killed all 6 of them (yeah im good ), up till now the best thing i could ever have is my short blade with 10 seconds paralization, its awsome), ran out of town fast to the fort to get my name cleared and get my reward. Anyway, so what do i do next, i want to have this main quest continuing otherwise i'd be heavily dissapointed. I was having such a great time and on my way to do more quests for my mages guild and discover new territories. The game would feel kinda pointless to me if i'd just had to wander around doing quests etc and never being able to finish the main quest/game. That would really suck and i'd probably just quit the game alltogether. Also i'm having doubts about quests, i read in a spoiler that someone needed to get a skull from a tomb i've been in already. I had the skull in my inventory and i sold it or threw it away (since i didnt have the quest yet and i wonder off lots of times to explore and find new tombs etc to get my hands on new items etc). It would kinda suck if i couldnt finish a main quest coz i already cleared it ages before i got the quest. Kinda makes me scared to explore like i always used to do. Greetz, Reggie !!!! |
don't worry, hon. the one thing you CAN'T do to stay on the main quest, kill that person, you've already dealt with.
go join another house or take up with the fighter's guild. keep exploring and talk to everyone you can. you'll be back onto your main quest line in no time. there's prolly a house or two you wanna join. been to vivec yet? what about the clammora tong? (my spelling for names in this game is horrific!) they are just as exclusive and difficult to join. don't change your ways tho. this is one game you CAN do everything you have been doing and still win. V***V   |
lol u are morrowinds 'henry lee lucas'

The opening message in this thread is symptomatic of a very common sort of whine I keep seeing and I simply do not get it. We have saved game positions to reload and replay this or that line of steps, plenty of storage for tons of different saves in different places, so we can be alternating two versions of the same game on two separate lines based on a branch point. The first rule of gaming in any environment similar to Elder Scrolls is saving often.
So when I see all this whining and no mention of having replayed this or that line all the way back to (whenever), I just don't get it; these people (remember, I'm not picking on Reggie particularly, just using him/her as an example of a class of would- be gamer who in my opinion doesn't seem to be trying very hard), they don't make saves? Kiwi * |
I used to think like that too, Kiwi. But then I started playing with the consequences of my actions on some games, and I have to say even if they become a bigger pain in the ass in some ways, it makes them more enjoyable. Oh, I DO rotate saves, and I have them labeled say for instance before joining a guild or a house, I make a save named "<charname> bout to join <guild/house name>". Or I do the same before I do something I may regret later if I feel it warrants it. But for the most part I keep on it and on it. It's kind of hard to really role-play your character if you just always keep in mind that loading a previous save will fix your bad screw ups. When I used to play pen & paper rpg's our GM wouldn't give us a chance to return in time if we messed up badly. And neither did I give that chance to players when I was the GM. And some good PC RPG's beg for that sort of treatment. So if someone chooses to fully play a character even with all the mistakes big or small, and tries to find a way to fix it, all I will do is congratulate him or her .
|
Reggie you choose a path, even if that road can make the main quest of the game difficult to solve there is no reason to quit playing that way or to start over, for as long that you load to a game saved before getting the message of "you have make the prophesy impossible to fulfill, you can load a previous save or keep living in this doomed world" you will be able to solve the main quest.
While there are games so linear in nature that most mistakes take you to dead ends on the final solution, there are also games like Morrowind, when you are given this flexibility mistakes are among the best parts of the game, even if they can be a bit frustrating in the beginning they can also trigger the most memorable moments on the game, same with characters, most of the times its the clumsy thief that cant open a lock even if he have key more fun than one that never fails. |
Kiwi that's such load of bullshit, im sorry to say.
I must be saving about every 5 ( or less) mins coz i keep having desktop crashes out of nowhere. Besides, i always safe lots and lots of times with all games i play with coz i simply dont wanna have to redo the whole thing again. Then another thing, how on earth do i know which guy i robbed or killed from the over 100 people i must have killed or robbed while playing the game. Reload every single saved game i have and then find my way back to balmo to visit caius ? That would take me a week at least alone to find that 1 save. Then once i have found it it would take me days again to go find all the dungeons and items i found after that safe, remember all the people i talked with, remember all trainings and custom spells i had made and bought etc etc. This game is huge and deep and so many npc's to talk with and so many areas to explore. Ofcourse i safe a shitload coz otherwise i'd be totally lost which parts i already did or explored etc. Its a game you GOTTA safe alot. It usually takes me a whole day to simply do 1 main quest from my guild or blades coz i keep wondering off or picking up new quests along the way which keep me busy. You'r post is really an example of 'posting without thinking to much'. How on earth could i be whining if i just ask a simple question about where to pick up the main plot ? I know from previews and interviews that you can kill everyone except 1 npc to keep the main plot going. My question only is where do i pick this up again. I came across another blade and he told me to make amends just its ages ago that that story about making amends was told to me so i simply forgot where and who i should make amends to. If i would be whining about anything then its about my overly frequent deskstop crashes which i havent while its totally annoying. Greetz, Reggie |
Yep Yack. Well later on in the game i came across another blade saying sorry he couldnt train me or help me and that i should make amends first.
Ofcourse i forgot about this amends . Someone in usenet mentioned the name of Mehra Milo in vivec. Ill just go to vivec then. Been there for quite a while earlier already and once yer used to how the maze works its not that easy to get lost so it shouldnt take me to long to find that person to see what the amends were about. To bad once im in vivec again ill probably be wondering off for hours to see where i can get what loot duh hehehe ). Thats usually how it goes hehehe. Yes veselle i've been in vivec, up till now thats one of the more important places i've been to where you can get lotsa stuff and info or join houses etc . Well the Tong guild/house i dont like to join coz they cant stand outlanders grrrrr. Its a game but they still piss me off being so discriminating to my high elf . Thought about joining the Hlaalu but they arent really a true mages house (im a mage) and Telvaani seemed a true mages house so i wanna join those some time when i take the time to find how to enter them in vivec. Been thinking bout joining the Emperial cult but ah bah all that info you get thrown at you. Im not sure stilll if Emperial cult is a house or a faction or maybe faction and house are both te same etc etc and how cool they are if i join them . I wanna be in the coolest house/faction and see what powers it gives me once im in. Also Telvaani seems to climb up the ladder but taking out competitors. Seems kinda cool ). None of that chit chat, if you dont like them just kill them hehehe. Greetz, Reggie !!!! |
Reggie,
Some different philosophies, you and I. I play like it's life, which it isn't, but "as if," which includes no "do-overs" for stupid decisions that I make. My RPG discipline says if I die because I was being a twinky, then I start over. No reload save games and all that bosh because I was being an idiot (according to my self-imposed gaming style) and didn't like the consequences of the same. So, I have to say with modest glee, from my playing perspective, that I'm glad to see you're semi-screwed. Actions have consequences and I enjoy it when people suffer for "bad" actions. I am glad though, that you have enough fore-thought to make saves B4 you continue on your socio-pathic killing spree. It's one thing to be a sociopath in a game, but another to be a stupid person in real life. ALSO, PLEASE don't take it that I think your way is inferior. It's your way and it's YOUR GAME EXPERIENCE. My way doesn't work for a lot of people. What gives me the jollies doesn't work for most people. I'd hazard to guess that you'd probably think my way was insufferably dull, impossibly boy-scoutish and plodding. But it turns my crank. |
hmmm.
i enjoy finding out how everyone plays their games. there's so many ways to play. my way is probly horribly boring to others, but i enjoy playing thiefsie types, who sneak around and poke around other folk's belongings. i don't usually ever steal stuff, except quest items and gold. LOL! i just realized how hilarious that sounds. a thief with standards. but i get the MOST fun from poking into every nook and cranny in every house and town in the world and just finding out what's there. if it's a tomb that goes waaay down into the earth or if it's a castle with ramparts that stretch to the clouds. i love the exploring. well, and the monster bashing. i like seeing how close i can cut it when i'm fighting. i don't like to have tons of stuff either. i travel light and wear as little as possible. ;) i like to take as many quests as i can, and settle all of them, without messing with anyone, if possible. i have standards and at times will stretch them, but only if absolutely necessary. i prefer to say no if its too horrific. but i dislike saying no, too. so, i guess that makes me officially messed up, too, huh? V***V  |
not messed up, just impulsive and then some ;)
|
My style seems to be fairly close to yours, Miss V. I always play a thief-type, and I love to explore everything. I think Morrowind is going to be on the hard-drive for a long, long time.
I really get a kick out of wandering off into uncharted areas, finding stuff that I don't know what to do with, getting bits and pieces of info and tracking down items or gold. The books in this game are fantastic, little hints and clues all over the place, it really makes it feel like a living, breathing world. |
Nah draconis. Not at all. Only thing i think is ughhhhh where does he get the patience from to redo it all hehehe.
Im just to damn inpatient so i always safe alot but always safe before i try a thing i know upfront might go wrong. I know my way isnt the way the game should be played.Im sure many do it my way. It's actually like cheating coz hey if you screw up, load up a safed game. Kinda sux but ah well so used to it nowadays where you can save anywhere you want. Besides, im just to impatient. For me this way is the only way to play and finish a game. Otherwise i'd loose interrest half way if i had to redo the same things over again or loose lots of invested time coz i screwed up . Greetz, Reggie !!!! |
Hihihi Veselle, i think yer a cutie . I hope you'r really a girl though coz oh i dunno, without sounding cliche etc but, you really play it the feminine way hihihi. Its cute )
Ah well pff im stealing lots too since lvl 1 (always had locketpicks and probes on me. Hell i think i got security and sneaking pretty high for a mage and if those fail then i got my lvl 50 and lvl 100 lock opening spells , i poke in every bag etc also to see whats in there. Thats what makes the game fun . And if i find a real good item or lotsa money in a char's house and his door is locked and i know i cant sneak my way to his stuff then ill just finish him off hehehe. Its not like i kill everyone i come across, i got better things to do. I just kill when needed coz hell i want the items he's got. I kill less and less now though coz i cant be bothered to kill someone who's got 25 g in his chest and he will scream if i steal it. At young lvls 25 g was a lot, now it isnt anymore. I steal much more. You cant kill that many people. I used to kill commoners coz those are always unguarded and at low lvls they had the gold i needed. The other stuff i just steal or i check their chests knowing they will attack me, see if its worth taking the bounty for. if not ill just reload a presafe right before i checked the content of the chest and move on. If there's some really good stuff in there well then i only got one option, killing them , then take their stuff hehehe. Coz when they are close buy you cant sneak past them so they will allarm the others. Greetz, Reggie |
~~reggie~~
LOL! how cute. i think you're the first person to ever suggest i might not be a girl! ROFLMAOPIMP!! if i'm not, then i'm one of the oddest looking guys ever. :D either way, it's all pure, unadulterated vess here! see?? ::gives you a quick peck on the cheek, leaving a little lipstick kissy mark on you:: all girlie stuff. V***V  |
Reggie,
"I know my way isnt the way the game should be played." Should? You mean like you "should" wear clean underwear in case you get hit by a bus? Don't much believe in "should." I figure, you paid your 49.95 + tax, you can make the game into highly decortive coasters if that's what turns your crank... I paid my money and will play the game my way. But you've got to understand, but you're cooresponding with the guy that made up the "Sears Catalog Game" which comprised of "shopping" from the Sears catalogs (they used to have over a dozen including the specialty catalogs) on a budget. You'd then compare notes with the other players and see who made the most complete "survial base." Sort of a post-nuclear war thing. After all, I'm old enough to remember "duck and cover" without it being part of the Fallout series. |
Well then a kiss back vesselle hehehe @-->>-- . Well umm in your first reply you said Hun to me and you reply was very sweet.
I figured you were a girl but online you can never be sure ofcourse. Could be me assuming things that arent there and you just being a guy hehehe. Anyway, its great that in writing even its obvious how much of a woman you really are . Great isnt it . Thanx for your help cutie wutie , Reggie !!!! |
Oh i forgot vesselle. I cant exactly remember where i got them but i think from a chest or bag or whatever in pelagiad.
Great boots (no armour rating on them so great if you use the unarmoured skill) with constant fortify of +5 to sneak. I guess dream boots for a thief like you and me hehehe . Even though i'm a stealing mage but who cares . Also from a spoiler i got this awwwwwwwwwsome robe with constant effect of 15 to health and 15 to fatigue. Its SE of that starting town (real small island and pretty close to the coast), deen sync or something whatever it was called again, its the town you start the game at. Its on a little island, the robe, in a dungeon. Very cool dungeon also at lvl 23, i died plenty times still. Anyway the robe is in a chest at the place where you kill that end minis boss kinda guy, there's bells nearby also. You'll need leviade or some kinda high jumpskill scroll with slow falling or whatever to get to the chest. Constant effect of +15 health and fatigue is kinda godlike hehehe. I can now just always run coz my fatigue doesnt even go down ever anymore hehehe. Greetz, Reggie !!!! |
:D thanks, luv! i knew i would run into some very cool things, so i'm officially excited now! i have those boots and robe to look forward to.
i have some fly scrolls, but i guess that's not really the same as levitate. however, i am learning mysticism so that i can get levitate and some of those fun spells that will be of use to a Assassinette, like myself! ;) i'm really looking forward to it. V***V  |
Well careful though. Take a long thought if you want that robe with its restore 15 health and fatigue.
I've not fought alot of monsters still with the robe coz i've been busy doing quests and checking out every bag in new towns i come across, plus spend time with enchanting but get 99 % fails still at skill lvl 50 pfff. Made 2 nice enchantments though but those took me about 50 reloads of the game doh . Anyway, think hard if you want that cape coz it made me virtually invincible right now. I can have a Golden saint beat on me and and sure he knocks me down but i stand up again coz i dont loose fatigue. Sure he takes health off of around 3/4th of my health at some times but it just regenerates again. So thats me a mage with no armour letting a Golden Saint kick the shit out of me. Hell i by accident ,i guess, sold a stolen soulstone to a mage in the mage guild in bamora. They all attacked me with their bonewalkers summoned, about 6 of them all at once hacking in on me, and it didnt bother me much and i killed them all without taking a single potions or using any magic. That robe makes me nearly invincible. I hope it wont stay that way, would be kinda boring, coz i got alot of te territories to explore still but right now im almost impossible to kill. If it stays this way i might just dump the robe all together. Greetz, Reggie |
hmmm..and I thought this game is open ended. looks like the game maker lied. there shouldn't be any consequences of doing something in an open ended game. :(
|
kakero!
hmmm. interesting. yknow, i don't think consequences preclude an open-ended game. in fact, i think its necessary to have consequences. with consequences comes thought, which govern how you respond immediately and react the next time. in fact, consequences just might ensure that a game is open-ended, because of the various ways to respond, putting you onto different paths that weren't open before. ;) just a thought! :D and reggie! good point about the invincibility. i DO so get bored if i feel like everything's just too safe. nice to meet someone else who feels the same way! :D V***V   |
umm what is with the names in this game. I have to look at them 5 times before I can go door to door looking for the right house I walk up too a door and look at the name and go I have no clue what the hell that name was. J where is it ROVARNEEHSKLFD's house in balmora. Great. Try the door.... oh this is ROVARNEEZZHSKFD's house. AAAAAAAAHHHHHGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
And I this is the only flaw I have seen in this wonderful game LOL. Oh well guess I'll deal |
Well why not check the map ?
Did you know if you left click with yer mouse on the map and hold it down that you can then drag the map around to see all previously discovered grounds ? Needs to get used to but its very easy to find back that house you visited before. About the robe vesselle..yeah i put it off for now, didnt throw it away. Now the game is much more interresting again. Also i found 2 more robes which are great. Well found hihihi duh.. actually i killed this telvaani guy i came across in this weird looking place in ummm whats the damn name again of that town... Ah yes Gnisis is the town i think, am there for a dutie from a mage guild. Great robes he drops,2 of them... both have an elemental resist and both have lots of spell absorbtion on them for 30 secs. Not tried that spell absorbtion stuff still though. Im now lvl 29 i think with reputation of 9 . That's another reason im not wearing the robe again (although most of all i miss my constant full supply of fatigue which lets me run forever and instantly fight without having to worry to be out of fatigue again grrr.) coz now i gotta think more again on which spells to use on what type of monsters. I got so many spells now pfff. I think i got all the different types of spells i could have right now, got all the drain, absorb, fortify etc etc spells. All manually made, i just buy 1 or so absorb spell for instance, then go to a make spell guy and make all the spells for absorb health, absorb strength, absorb willpower etc etc. Do that for every spell i come across and now i got a huge list of damn spells. I wish there was some kinda macro which would let me make different combat comfigurations with different kinda spells coz that's the only tedious thing so far about the game, having to look through this huge spell list every second during a fight to choose the right next spell in line. I guess enchanted items would solve that problem but then again i got enchantment at skilllvl 65 now and i still cant make a simple enchanted item with the cheapest soulgem of 300 g or so pfff. I guess unless i reload 1000 times again like before but thats to damn boring. Its my second list skill, not a major skill, but i thought 65 should be high enough coz i got no skill under 50 and 2 skills at lvl 70 and the rest all following closely. It sux coz i want to make my own enchanted coolios items but i guess they made it pretty hard to do to not overpower your char. No clue either on how to get the amount of gold together to let a mage make the enchanted item for me since i still have to find a barter that takes items over 5000 g. The one i use is in caldera (in the manor) and gives full price for the items you sell him and has 5000 g on him always. Most money i usually have on me is 6000 or 7000 a time, which i then use to make custom spells to get my list more organized (dont like those weird kinda spell names) so they are easier to find, and spend the rest on trainings (if they let me coz often they dont saying they cant teach me anything more bout the skill. I guess im to low status in the mageguild so im now more concentrating on getting my rank up, think i'm warlock now or something like that, and must get my butt in the telvaani house so i can improve more. Oh btw vesselle, if you can get Telekinese then go for it. Its awsome for thieving hehehe. I made a custom spell for a distance of 50 feet and i can now thief from chests i couldnt before coz there were to many people closeby to disable my sneaking . Ah well im gonna try that plugin for that house in the starter town . No g in the boxes etc though but a teleport ring and npc's to sell and to let you travel to mageguilds seem very nice. Not really cheating i think coz it just saves me alot of running up and down so i can concentrate on the game more. Before that i just used the biggest manor in Balmera, wasted that guy way early in the game coz i kinda liked his house and it's been mine since then hehehe hihihi im so bad . I figure why use a plugin if you can have the biggest house in town for free hihihihi. I still gotta pick up the main quest though, maybe i should join some imperial house for that or something, im hoping Telvaani will let me progress again in the main plot. I now found out where to get into Talvaani, seems in wolverine town or whatever its called. Been there but only in the mages guild and never been outside. Seems to be a talvaani town. The wizard that i wasted for his coolios robes told me that.Well i could kill him coz he told me that in talvaani its ok if you kill the competition coz their way of thinking is that the one that won had a better arguement . So i guess my arguement was best ). Besides, he was to damn sinister to my liking pff. He has creepy monsters running around in his place. Greetz, Reggie !!!! |
OMG!! reg!! you're too funny.
he was too sinister for you???? hahahahahaha he musta been horrible indeed. ROFLMAOPIMP!!!! is your rating still at 9? or did it actually go up a bit for killing this bonehoarder mage? V***V :D |
Reggie... I like your approach to the game world... May not agree with your style, but who cares, right...
Now, as for consenquences not being useful in an open ended game, you could not be so wrong... I hope MW takes a cue from BG II, and actually surpasses the effects of reputation/consequences... It may take longer to complete the main quest, maybe a bit more difficult, but there is always a way out, a way for redemption, if wanted... Personally, I believed the Ultima series to be too orientated towards good. The BG series was to wishy washsy at the end, either as good or evil, think about who you were (Bhaalspawn)... From the looks of Morrowind, with the open ended, and non linearity story line, consenquences should be taken into account, as you start out as a true neutral character with skills, but no personality... That is what may make this a classic, the extensive quests available, and the openness of the story line... |
Hehehe well he had these scary beasts walking around his place, all neutral but still, i didnt trust him :PP .
Besides, he looked like he was wearing coolios equipment hehehe. Well right now im lvl 43 or so and my reputation is 11. Dont forget though im kinda cheating by reloading games alot. If i get the message 'crime reported' after i killed someone then ill just reload and leave him alive hehehe. I dont care much bout me going to jail or anyting but what i do care about is that once they arrest you they seem to randomly remove items from your inventory, even though you stole those agessssssssss ago like 20 lvls back or whatever, so that sux. Maybe i should just replay the game some time coz i guess the way i play it, with all the saves/reloads is the same as cheating. Been thinking bout that lately,i think it makes the game much more interresting/involving if i just pay the consequences. Greetz, Reggie !!!! |
