Ok since the RP section seems to be a bit quiet I figure that I can easily run a second game without any problems. So heres the sitrep, its the May 1 2006 and strange things have been happening, it all started at the end of 2005 when campers started dissapearing from the wilderness. Police suspected a serial killer but once it started happening in a more widespread pattern there were rumours of several copy-cat killers. Things were normal for most of the country until late April 2006 when the attacks were so common that police closed off all wilderness parks and camping areas and instituted a curfew. Also the first survivor of an attack was found and rushed to hospital, a young girl who was suffering from several broken bones and bite marks.

Anyone who has played one of my RPs before will know that they are generally pretty stat and dice free but this will be changing, this game is about surviving so do not expect to be able to run in with an arsenal of weapons and live. Characters will have 40 points to spend on abilities and I will be using a random number generator (anyone know a good one) as a dice. Anyone who is interested feel free to post.

Character Layout:

Name:
Age:
Nationality:
Job:
Bio:

Abilities max of 15 points each:
Balance (Ability to walk or crawl across unstable surfaces):
Brawling (Unarmed combat):
Climb (Ability to climb things, duh):
Drive (Cars, trucks, etc):
Melee (Skill with hand to hand weapons):
Small Firearms (Pistols and SMGs):
Large Firearms (Rifles and the like):
Demolitions (Explosives):
Athletics (Running, jumping):
Agility (Squeezing in small spaces):
Urban survival (Street knowledge):
Wilderness survival (Hunting and trapping food, not getting lost):
Medical knowledge (First aid):
Observation (Ability to spot or hear things):
Construction (Building baracades and repairing buildings):
Electronics (Electronic knowledge):

Feel free to request other skills and I will take them under consideration, characters will gain more skill points as the progress and become more effective survivors. It is suggested, for realism and to make things fun, that not every character be a military or ex-military gun professional lets use some imagination here. I want to see the survival statistics of a waiter or a night club bouncer

Hmmmm, this game is interesting. I might look at this tomorrow when I wake up properly.

"Abilities max of 15 points each:"

Is there a number I should stick to so I have a fair amount of abilities?

Got a few ideas for characters who wouldn't generally be heroes ;) Now I gotta choose.

shadowhound 12-25-2005 07:43 PM

The abilities number is upto you, you can either have a range of abilities with generally low scores or you can choose to excel in a few key areass.

SomeGuy 12-27-2005 02:36 AM

Okay well, I have a few questions.

1. Is there a rating scale on the skills? Like, three points in one is like novice, six intermediate, etc
2. Where will we be starting at? A destroyed zombie city or a relatively clean city with zombie invasions just beginning to pour in.
3. What if the person playing the character knows a bit about zombie survival issues? Will he be allowed to use them in game? (Such as where to barricade, where to and where not to go, what to use as a weapon, what not to, what to wear, who NOT to associate with, etc,)
4. What kind of zombies are we talking here? Slow shamblers or those new age ones who run really fast?

Ahhh I'm sure they'll be more questions soon.

Well SG
1. No specific ratings, the skill numbers will be directly affecting the rolls.
2. The invasion will be just begininng
3. Well it would be preferred that players operate under the character's level of knowledge but it is assumed that most characters have seen at least one zombie horror and have a basic idea of what they are facing.
4. Classic zombies, old school

shadowhound 01-06-2006 12:06 AM

Perhaps people would prefer to play a pre-generated character? I will post a selection of survivors to choose from. You can choose to create your own though.

DrowArchmage 01-08-2006 12:09 AM

old school like shoot 'em in the head or heart?

shadowhound 01-08-2006 01:50 AM

Just the head DA, just the head. :D

Gnarf 01-08-2006 10:20 AM

Might wanna join this.

It'd be nice to get have a general idea of what is "normal" and "good" ratings etc. Do you have to put skill points in something unless you want your character to suck at it, or does putting points in something mean that you're particulary skilled in that? (eg. do you have to put points in drive if you're really no good at driving, but has got a driver's licence?)

DrowArchmage 01-09-2006 07:10 PM

Cool, i'd like to join.

You've still got points left to spend on abilities, DA (it's 40 points to spend, and max 15 per ability).

DrowArchmage 01-11-2006 01:35 PM

Name: David Shanklin
Age: 37
Job: Un-occupied, homeless

Bio: A drunkard, kicked out of his own home by his wife because of his excessive drinking and gambling, David Shanklin was forced to live a life on the street. His friends wouldn't accept him, his family had exiled him. He had no place in the world. His prolonged disconnection with alcohol has kept him sober for awhile, choosing to spend whatever he could scrounge up to get what he needed to survive. David realized that if he was going to live, he'd have to learn to survive out on the streets. Living out there gave him a need outlook on life and he hoped soon he'd be able to fix his past mistake, and make something of himself. Balance (Ability to walk or crawl across unstable surfaces):

Brawling (Unarmed combat): 2
Climb (Ability to climb things, duh): 3
Drive (Cars, trucks, etc): 2
Melee (Skill with hand to hand weapons): 6
Athletics (Running, jumping): 6
Agility (Squeezing in small spaces):5
Urban survival (Street knowledge): 6
Wilderness survival (Hunting and trapping food, not getting lost): 5
Observation (Ability to spot or hear things): 5

I put points into things I figured a form drunkard/gambling man who's been living on a the streets for awhile would know. I mean, is a homeless guy really gonna know how to use electronics and whatnot? Maybe from a past job, but I figure he'd forgotten by now or something.

Name: Gregg Johnson
Age: 33
Nationality: English
Job: Taxi Driver
Bio: Working for his new boss, Mr. Teng, Gregg has been driving taxis for nearly a decade. Living alone in a one bedroomed flat, he hasn’t been able to hold down a girlfriend for longer than a month as he isn’t very polite, or clean for that matter. Farting, burping and picking his nose, this guy will do it in public if he has to. He is of average looks and better-than-average build (Isn’t very muscular, but isn’t fat). Knowing what the streets are like, and knowing that taxi drivers are usually a good target for theft, he always keeps a 9mm pistol in his taxi. He has good observation skills, imperative for that line of work (looking for people needing fares, etc.).
He has short, brown hair, which is balding on the crown ever so slightly, and blue eyes.

Abilities max of 15 points each:
Balance (Ability to walk or crawl across unstable surfaces): 2
Brawling (Unarmed combat): 3
Climb (Ability to climb things, duh): 2
Drive (Cars, trucks, etc): 6
Melee (Skill with hand to hand weapons): 3
Small Firearms (Pistols and SMGs): 4
Large Firearms (Rifles and the like): 1
Demolitions (Explosives): 0
Athletics (Running, jumping): 2
Agility (Squeezing in small spaces): 1
Urban survival (Street knowledge): 6
Wilderness survival (Hunting and trapping food, not getting lost): 3
Medical knowledge (First aid): 1
Observation (Ability to spot or hear things): 5
Construction (Building baracades and repairing buildings): 0
Electronics (Electronic knowledge): 1

Seeing as the limit was 15 I thought everything in 1’s would be underpowered and he would soon be zombie chowder, so a few things are 3’s even though he isn’t an expert in any. I’ll explain below, in case anything is too uber.

Balance – He can balance on one leg, for example, but cannot walk a tightrope.
Brawling – Has been in a fight before, but isn’t Mohammed Ali.
Climb – Can climb *shrugs*
Drive – Has been driving for a living, so is quite a good driver.
Melee – Knows how to hit people with bats, toasters, whatever is available *winks*
Small Firearms – Keeps a gun, knows how to use it
Large Firearms – Doesn’t know much about these, except they are like small firearms but not so.
Demolitions – No clue whatsoever.
Athletics – Can run
Agility – Not sure how to describe this one
Urban Survival – Knows the ins and outs of the city.
Wilderness Survival – Good at knowing his way around, assuming it is in the city.
Medical Knowledge – Knows nothing more than the next average guy
Observation – Good at noticing things
Construction – No clue
Electronics – Can work a mobile phone, computer, electronic microwave, nothing more.

Any problems let me know

Grr stupid internet, posted a reply but its not here. Recap:

Everyone's characters seem to be fine. Will open game thread now.

Gnarf: Example:
0 in driving - can drive but only average
0 in firearms - never handled a gun
Its subjective

DrowArchmage 01-17-2006 11:13 PM

I seriously got confused for a second. I'm good now.

shadowhound 02-05-2006 07:25 AM

shadowhound 02-07-2006 09:14 PM

DrowArchmage 03-06-2006 02:41 PM

Sorry about the homo comment, didnt mean to offend anyone.

shadowhound 03-06-2006 10:48 PM

Running - The speed at which you can run
Mechanics - Skill at repairing vehicles
Thrown Weapons - Skill with thrown weapons (grenades etc) and improvised throwing weapons (throwing knives)
Strength - How much a person can carry, helps with holding doors shut or lifting heavy items
