My post makes use of a number of details that have been laid out at greater length in the Tavern by the Creek and original LOF games.

Those familiar with those games are most likely already aware that because of events in Cyril's backstory, his loathing of paladins is second only to his hatred of the Modding Mage and the Reaper. With regard to his opinion of Larry Silverfall ...... that will need to be determined.

dplax 12-06-2004 01:19 PM

Larry if you still have Plaxica's char sheet could you pm it to me? It seems I lost it during one of my pm cleanups.

Larry_OHF 12-07-2004 12:35 AM

Sorry...looks like that is the only one I do not have. How about looking on the ship game where you initially announced your character? Did you post it there?

dplax 12-07-2004 01:16 AM

I was actually looking for the version which got modified for this game, so looks like I'll have to make a new char sheet.

Cyril Darkcloud 12-07-2004 12:56 PM

As we have a number of participants on the boards now who were not around for the original Lord of the Forums series of threads, or who did not participate in the sequel, perhaps a bit of extended background might be helpful. I also thought Larry might appreciate a summary of the two LOF games in one place

In the distant days of the original Blue Boards there was a ranger, Larry Silverfall by name, who championed the cause of goodness. But the passing of time saw the laying aside of the original blue color of the forums in favor of the present brown theme of the IronWorks boards. This same passing of time also saw the death of Larry Silverfall’s wife. Grief and loss gave rise to anger and hatred within him, a hatred and an anger that came to be directed toward the other characters in the forum and the happiness they enjoyed. He gave in to the seducing call of the darkness of modding magic and Larry Silverfall was no more and in his place stood Larry, the Modding Mage of the IW Roleplay Boards.

From his lonely tower of shadowed stone, the Modding Mage drew those who longed for mastery over others to his banner, and began to bend the entire realm of IronWorks to his will. The forces of good, led by a number of the original IW clans, rose in opposition to the Modding Mage and his allies. The armies of good attacked the Modding Mage in the very heart of his kingdom, but valiant as their effort was, they fell before the dark might of Modding Power.

The Modding Mage emerged from the struggle even mightier – not only were his enemies defeated but he had come into possession of the One Ring whose software had been written by Ziroc himself. As the few survivors of the doomed attack sought out weapons mighty enough to defeat the Mage that Mods, Larry increased the powers of his generals and began to prepare his final assault to conquer all of IronWorks for himself.

There came during these days a grim and silent newcomer who risked death by standing in open defiance of the Modding Mage at the very base of his tower. The Windbringer, as he came to be called, took refuge in the rugged mountains at the borders of the Mage’s domain and soon after his arrival great storms appeared over these peaks. Shielded within the storms, he waged a silent and foolish struggle against the power of the Modding Mage. He planted a strange grass that withheld the life within the earth of the forums from the Modding Mage’s grasp and after slaying a dark creature of hungry chaos, trapped that hunger within the very ground of the Modding Mage’s kingdom. This great and terrible hunger after power and life attacked the Modding Mage when he had attempted to use the power of the Ring. Realizing that he could no longer safely use the Ring, Larry gathered the last of his generals around himself and prepared for battle.

But among his generals, was a betrayer who had turned his own forces against him. And others had joined the struggle against the might of the Mage that Mods including a mysterious druidess, a young ranger and a mysterious agent of Ziroc bent upon recovering the Ring. Using the power of the Ring that the Hunger had stolen, the Windbringer breached the tower’s defenses and after a desperate struggle, the Modding Mage’s forces were defeated and the Mage himself lay dead, struck down by the Windbringer. With the death of the Modding Mage, the tower of shadow collapsed. Leaving the victors to struggle to freedom.

They emerged from the ruins wounded to the verge of death, but alive. The Ring was restored to Ziroc’s possession and the survivors made their way to other threads in the Roleplay Forum. The wind-gatherer never disclosed his reasons for opposing the Modding Mage, nor did he still the great storms that raged within the mountains or disclose how the great and terrible Hunger might be removed from the ground at the heart of the forums.

The events outlined above summarize the original LOF game.

With the passing of time even so great a series of events as these grew dim within the minds of many and players arrived in the Forums who knew nothing of the struggle against the tyranny of shadow. Others, however, could not forget the struggle and a villain from another game, the Devouring Wind, manipulated and teased their memories with doubts about the victory. These doubts, nagging questions about whether the Hunger remained a threat to the safety of the Forums led to the awakening of a terrible appetite within the first IW game ever to have an ending. A party gathered called together by Azrael, the agent of Ziroc, Morguerat the Fallen, and a young ranger named Brendon Grey, a refugee from the NWN board that was seized and nearly consumed by the Hunger within the roleplay forums. And so it was that the game that had ended was opened once more.

The gathered party, prevented from making the journey through the mountains by the storms that still raged after the Windbringer’s departure, risked passing through the Underforums to gain entry to the dark lands of the broken power of shadow. Other forces moved in the lightless depths beneath the Forums, however, and the party soon found itself caught between the savagery of grimlock warriors and the might of the Shadow Giants who claimed to be the children and heirs of the Modding Mage’s power. Terrakis, leader of the Shadow Giants, received guidance from the Devouring Wind who spoke to him by means of the echo of the Modding Mage’s voice. From the Devourer, the Giants of Shadow learned how to bend even the buried Hunger to their will and soon all rivals to the Giants for power below the surface were broken and swept aside. Setting a trap for TAOWolf, the druid, the Devouring Wind seized control of the Ley lines which run through the Fourms, corrupting them and allowing the buried Hunger to reach outward in blind appetite to consume posts across all of IronWorks.

Euryale the ancient Gorgon attacked and destroyed the gnome settlement where the party had taken refuge, taking several members of the party prisoner and petrifying them. While those few that had escaped struggled to press on in the face of growing despair, Terrakis and the Giants of Shadow, aided by their allies, a shadowy race of dwarves they created by using the strange magic of the original Yellow Boards of IronWorks, struck with terrible and sudden brutality, breaking the power of Euryale and destroying her army of grimlocks. To draw the Devouring Wind out of this game the Windbringer initiated the ending of his own story, thus bringing to a halt the plot of another game and carrying the Devourer away with him to the lonely place where they were destined to meet in combat.

Eventually a small band of survivors reached the surface of the Inner Forums where they engaged in desperate struggle against both Shadow Giants and banewolves. Arcades the dragon destroyed the great tunnel the Shadow Giants had built to unite their lightless kingdom to the surface and TAOWolf severed the Ley Lines, protecting the outer forums from the grasp of the Hunger. A great struggle in the lightless ravine ended when the priestess Anarimma invoked the might of her goddess to flood the darkened soil with a mighty burst of pure sunlight, destroying the Hunger.

All was not well, however, for the Giants of Shadow seized Rhianneth the sorceress and Brendon the ranger, taking them to the sight of the fallen tower of the one called Larry. By means of a terrifying ritual, Terrakis pulled the very life from the body of Brendon Grey by making use of the ring of the Windbringer. And so it was that the ancient vessel within which the Modding Mage had sealed away his essence prior to his defeat in the first game was opened once more and the dark Modding Mage of IronWorks was seated anew upon the throne of shadow. The great runestones created to defeat Terrakis were destroyed. Rhianneth was stripped of her powers and Brendon Grey now stands beside the throne of the Mage, a lifeless zombie whose eyes burn with hatred for all who live.

Before the Mage could consolidate his power, the daughter of the Windbringer appeared, bringing with her an ancient enemy of the mage, Chani Ravenwood who still possessed 2 arrows made by the Windbringer in the original game, arrows which bore the very power of the Modding Mage. Wounded greatly by the arrows, the Mage could not prevent the person of Larry Silverfall from breaking loose from the grip of shadow.

And so it has come to be that darkness grows once more in the realm of IronWorks, unchecked by any lingering taint of goodness within the Mage. Morguerat the Fallen has given himself over to the stern might of death, making the derelict complex that was once the proud headquarters of Keldorn’s Order the seat of his power. Larry Silverfall and Rhianneth escaped with Chani to the One-Eyed Wolf tavern. Of the other heroes, some few likewise made their escape from the Inner Forums, others have been destroyed forever and still others remain within the tower of the Mage, mute statues of stone that adorn his throne room.

If I missed anything important in the summaries, let me know. The unfortunate thing about general summaries like this is that once can't easily mentioned everyone's specific contributions to what were a series of very well roleplayed threads.

Morgeruat 12-07-2004 01:57 PM

Another participant followed the Devouring Wind as well. The Night Hag Zhydora, who has since disappeared, but who had an important role in Morguerat's total descent into darkness.

not of huge importance, but noteworthy nonetheless.

Larry_OHF 12-07-2004 04:44 PM

Wow! Great summary! I know that must have cost you no less an hour, probably more of work. Bien hecho!

Cyril Darkcloud 12-07-2004 09:39 PM

Addendum

Several important NPCs joined the struggle in the LOF II: Aftermath game. The night hag, Zhydo'ra, originally a servant of the Devouring Wind and one who nudged the tormented soul of the Fallen ever closer toward the darkness, has seemingly disappeared from the Forums. Euryale, the ancient gorgon, still lives and plots her revenge someplace in the lightless warrens of the Underforums. Terrakis, the great giant, has taken his place as the most feared and loyal servant of the Modding Mage whom he names his father. Tyresias the blind has succumbed to the strange power of the ancient Yellow Forums and was last seen leaving for that most secret and terrible land with the great book of the Yellow Kingdom in his possession. Myron Epimetheus, the undead sage, still inhabits the treehouse near the foothills of the jagged mountains which ring the Inner Forums.

TAOWolf 12-08-2004 12:10 AM

Great job, Cyril!!!! :D
Hopefully, I will catch up on posts tomorrow...

Finals are next week, and trying to get study guides set up..

Cyril Darkcloud 12-09-2004 12:20 AM

I trust that's enough chaos for one day.

Cyril Darkcloud 12-09-2004 12:38 AM

I guess not .....

NOTE: Larry lost his connection to IW last night just as he was editing his last post. He asked me to note here that the post is not in its final form and will be edited to fit a different agenda once he can get back online on the Forums.

In other words, his response to Cyril is most likely going to take a much nastier turn.

Larry_OHF 12-09-2004 01:09 PM

Tao...Cyril...see your PMs.

Consider your next moves.

Cyril Darkcloud 12-09-2004 06:28 PM

Looks good to me, Larry.

My next round of posts for the Windbringer is sketched out, but I'm holding things back a moment to give others a chance to catch up on their posting.

Morgeruat, are you expecting a post for Myron regarding your character?

TAOWolf 12-09-2004 06:41 PM

Looks good to me also, Larry :D

Will not be able to post till late tonight, tomorrow or this weekend, depending on how fast I get my *&$#$*#$& study guides for finals put together... LMAO

RevRuby 12-09-2004 07:54 PM

As a matter of fact yes, I figure he'd be best equipped to inform Morguerat (g) without immedaitely taking him for Reaper and trying to kill a nearly naked former paladin.

Morgeruat 12-10-2004 08:47 AM

erm... looks like revruby was logged in when I posted, oh well.

Cyril Darkcloud 12-11-2004 12:32 AM

I should have a post up for Myron sometime Saturday. It takes a bit of time to get into character for that little guy *lol*

TAOWolf 12-11-2004 02:29 AM

:D
check... your move... LOL

knight to Bishop's three I believe...

at least Morg got out... lets see what Cyril and I can do now.. *most evil grin on a most INNOCENT face*

Morgeruat 12-11-2004 10:13 PM

oh, quick note, Morguerat is NOT a paladin, his soul still bears some of the taint from Cyril's arrow, the fact that he is working to regain his former calling does not change his current status as a fallen paladin.

RoSs_bg2_rox 12-11-2004 10:52 PM

Thanks a lot for the summary Cyril, it was nice, and it also encouraged me to read up on the old threads.

Now I just need to make an IC post...haven't been around for a few days and it is nearly 4am, so I can't promise anything this very moment.

Larry_OHF 12-14-2004 10:14 PM

I will be missing in action until Friday night.
I hope everyone has fun and I will get started as soon as I get back.
My mom needs some help for a few days.

Morgeruat 12-15-2004 08:13 AM

Good luck Larry. Cyril, beautiful posts as usual.

TAOWolf 12-15-2004 01:38 PM

have fun, Larry..

as for me, I will post Friday also. I have a huge final Thursday, that I will be studying for all day today...

So, far 3 out of 4 of my finals I have scored over 95% on!!

although, this LAST one, I hope I make at least a B on to pass LMAO'

oh, and Arcades you can go ahead and make the first post.

A Quick Note - For those unfamiliar with him, Myron is an NPC who was involved in the LOF-Aftermath game. He is undead in the sense of being completely unaware that he has died. He is quite mad and very powerful and also thoroughly harmless - unless attacked - and, quite obviously, entirely focused upon scholarship and learning. Even after his body stopped living his appetite for knowledge has continued to animate him.

ArcadesSabboth 12-16-2004 09:28 PM

Hey all, Tao thought I should tell you about my little Forum site I have set up at Avidgamers.com, it's a Space RPG, everyone starts with their own (reasonable) sized starship of up to 4 crew members, and the objective is to find a legendary ship (which I own) and take it. If anyone is interested, go to http://ghostsaber.avidgamers.com

TAOWolf 12-16-2004 10:49 PM

Cyrill, and Larry especially.. ya'll ought to like this...

of course, I'm bringing my Druidess into it as a sea captain...LOL :D

at least check it out...

who knows.. maybe the Modding Mage can TRY (and a HUGE emphasis on TRY) to take this one over too?

ArcadesSabboth 12-16-2004 10:52 PM

She's already started turning my futuristic RP into a classic fantasy. *Sniff* Oh well, I'll work with it.

TAOWolf 12-17-2004 01:57 AM

LMAO

Legolas 12-17-2004 07:00 AM

I'd like to thank Larry for filling in for me, and apologise for my unannounced absence in the RP forum. I completely lost the proper mindset to write a reply worth reading mainly due to the pressure involved in studying for tests and writing more papers than I care to. I should be able to take over my part of the storyline once more from here on.

Believe me, I know exactly what you mean. Thanks for such good work with Marcos! You have done very well in writing.

One thing. I posted the ultimatum of getting into that room with only two minutes left, in an attempt to scare up the players...and Ross was able to contact me to let me know that he would be posting today (17th). I see you already have a plan for letting him back in...so please set up something for him to work with. Thanks.

 @ Tao vs. the wolf-dragon!

~closes eyes~

I can't watch!!

Larry_OHF 12-18-2004 11:21 AM

Rodie/Roderik: Sorry about that friend. I had to kill you off. My explanation for killing you is mentioned in the post in-character of the Mage. As you mentioned to me before, nobody should think themselves safe, and that includes any character I am running myself. Your death will serve the Mage against the Reaper and it will prove to the other players that this is a serious game where one wrong turn can get one a taste of the black flame.

Cheers.

Morgeruat 12-18-2004 11:40 AM

lol, it's not the first character of mine that's been killed in this game, and I doubt it'll be the last... in fact I think the only player who's lost more characters is you.

My money would be on the Wolf-dragon, but i've got inside info that Tao has something up her sleave, but thats only if she ever posts =)~

Note to all players

The following is a list of events that need to take place in the game. I have been vague on some points to not be responsible for direction of flow, and to permit creativity...but a general thematic chart is needed to give somewhat of a base to help us all see the finish line.

=================================================

1. The Marcos Subplot.:
All players involved in this will be at the mercy of Marcos until a change of events occurs. A change of events has been planned.

2. The resurrection of Mistral:
This is broken into two parts. The first part will be to get the candle out of the hands of the Mage. The second will be the attempt of the ressurrection of Mistral. (This attempt will close the first major plot of the entire game.)

3. The Quests of Cyril:
The first quest is to deal with Terrakis. The second is a small matter with Tao. The third will be involving Larry Silverfall. The fourth is undecided, pending events that have not yet taken place.

4. The Mage vs. The Reaper: This will be decided pending game-play. Enough dialogue has not occurred between gamers to have a clear agenda yet. This includes the Reaper vs. mankind as well.

5. Any other subplots already in play or yet to be started:
Some plots are better left out until we can get through what we already have. That will help all players involved in the game to focus their talents more effectively. Those already in play may be slowed down to be major themes of the next chapter.

=================================================

Any talks on future or current events can be PMed to me, or you are welcome to post here to discuss them.

The Marcos Subplot

Involved characters: Larry, Andrion, Silt, Vincent, Plaxica, Marcos.

NPCs. Controlled by DM and/or Legolas.

Actions to address: Marcos will be judging Larry and Andrion for their seperate crimes. Three witnesses have been selected for these cases, but Marcos has the type of personality to want to find the rotten in all people...so even the witnesses may find themselves at times feeling tested...

NPCs are the guards that work in the stronghold.

Outside influences involved in this subplot is Nanashi and potentially others, but none to mention at this time besides her. Her goal is to do her master's will.
