Ok then just post characters here with these stats:

Name
Age
Race
Sex
Profession
Belongings
Background history (a bit)
Specialties
Anything else you want to add

Elves can be rangers or mages, dwarves can be fighters or healers and humans can be any of the four except mages, although they would be weaker in the chosen profession than either elves or dwarves.

dplax 03-07-2004 05:45 PM

I like all of your characters. I'll wait a few more days to see whether anyone else wants to join.

Xen 03-08-2004 03:15 PM

I don`t understand one thing.

If this is "LotR" roleplay why do we post "our" characters and not characters like Frodo,Gollum etc.?

Sythe 03-08-2004 03:57 PM

This is the first age. This was before the events that has taken place before the ring, before Gollum, Bilbo and all that other stuff.

Xen 03-09-2004 01:11 AM

OK.

dplax 03-09-2004 06:08 AM

Its just the world where Lord of the rings took place. About 2-3000 years earlier.

<font color=skyblue>My favorite story and character in the Silmarillion is the tragedy of Turín, or Mormegil, the Black Sword. I would like to adapt a character with him in mind, yet not an exact copy, that I would have the freedom to play as I feel and not have the restriction of a character that already exists in the book. Good? I would however like to keep the name Turin in as my char name.

Turin Turambar,

Age: 28
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Profession: Farmer
Belongings: A long sword made of black metal, provisions to keep in good health

Background history: Turin was a farmer who lived in the country of Balar. His village was destroyed by Orcs that had killed his family. He returned home from selling grain to find them slain. He joined the survivors on their trek North to join with another village, and then joined the group of defenders of that village. This was still in the country of Balar. He quickly worked his way up the chart of men that showed great courage and strength on the battlefield. He had nothing to live for, so he was never afraid of his own death.
When news got around that some humans had joined forces with Morgoth, he was wroth and vowed to be part of a team that would put an end to the reign of this evil.

This is how Turin has become part of the group. </font>

That's OK.

dplax 03-09-2004 08:48 PM

Well since we are starting to have quite a nice number of players I shall only wait for one of my friends to decide whether he wants to take part and I'll probably be starting the rpg friday or during the weekend.

Cienden 03-10-2004 03:28 AM

another?

Kirűn
Age: 203
Race: Dwarf
Sex: Male
Profession: Fighter
Belongings: large double-bladed battle axe, clothes, heavy chain shirt, helmet and battle mask, two small axes, small shield, pack with various travelling items
Background history (a bit): Traveling in search of adventure, orc ears to collect, and new sources of trade and resources for his clan.
Specialties: keen vision in utter darkness, especially underground. seige warfare-equipment and fortification construction above and below ground.

dplax 03-10-2004 03:48 AM

Got a much earlier reply from my friend than what I had expected so I am going to start it today.

dplax 03-10-2004 07:46 AM

A note about spellcasting. Spellcasting is quite OK up to a certain limit. Since in all of the Middle Earth books there is nearly no mention of scrolls I would prefer if spells got cast not from scrolls, but memorised or from special items. On the limit of spells available per day I would like something between five and ten per character. Spells do not have to be fix, you can devise any spells you want, but only within the limits of reasonability.

To make things clearer I shall give the number of spells each character can cast per day (DM's decision):

Feldorn, Hrolf, Roland, Turin, Kirun none since they aren't spellcasters.
Terias: 8 spells, since he is an expert in fire and lightning magics they count as one spell, other spells count as 1.4.
Therlion: 7 spells, telekinetic spells only count as 0.8.
Bober: 4 healing, 4 lethal magics per day.

If you do not agree or want some things differently I may be flexible.

Larry_OHF 03-10-2004 08:32 AM

I agree with your assessment of magic limits, and would like to add that if there be a limit to spells, they need to have some minor fighting ability as well to keep them "doing something", or they would spend all their spells and then have nothing to do except be cheerleaders.

Bozos of Bones 03-10-2004 10:36 AM

What about cantrips. If for example I want to light a candle with my breath, nothing big? I think they should be some .4 or .5 of spell. And what about spells that have a duation which has to be maintained, like my ability to fight with the shortsword from a distance? Some thirty seconds or something?

dplax 03-10-2004 12:15 PM

I only gave these as general guidelines. Bozos your idea is quite good. Minor spells shall only count for half their value. By minor spells I mean spells which do not greatly influence a situation. Duration spells last one hour/cost.

@Larry's idea: They can have daggers, staves, throwing equipment.

dplax 03-10-2004 12:17 PM

@Sythe: Your character is slowly regaining consciousness. So post away. Apart from a brad bruise on his head nothing is wrong with him.

dplax 03-10-2004 12:19 PM

BTW starting the rpg does not mean that joining isn't possible. By all means if you want to join go ahead. I'm sure I would be able to fit you into the story.

Bozos of Bones 03-10-2004 01:33 PM

Erm... I read the post about the throwing equipment. If I can, with the rock I find around and all the stuff I can throw by hand or by magic, can I have three elven daggers to hurl and pull back to me after the fight or in a time-out(hide, etc.) from the battle?

dplax 03-10-2004 04:29 PM

That could be acceptable. I just did not want magic to be over powered, so that is why I imposed limits.

Bozos of Bones 03-10-2004 05:16 PM

Yeah, sure. I use a spell(full .8 for a telekinetic spell) to throw the dagger(s). And I promise I'll "keep it real" :D

dplax 03-11-2004 12:18 PM

For clarity reasons, since my dwarf and Cienden's character were using the same fontcolors I changed my characters color.

With Feldorn I am still going to be using <font color=green> this color </font>.
With Hrolf I shall use from now on <font color=gold> this color. </font>

dplax 03-15-2004 07:08 AM

I shall be posting what Feldorn finds probably tomorrow, so if anyone wants to post before that you have until about same time tomorrow.

dplax 03-16-2004 10:20 AM

Mistral has pm-d me that she wants to join so I shall wait for it until posting further in the game.

mistral4543 03-17-2004 11:27 PM

Sorry; I was caught up with work again and these timezone differences do not help

Name: Robyn Stratsworth
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Race: Human
Height: 5 feet 3 inches
Weight: 120 lbs
Appearance: Naturally dark brown hair, almond-shaped grey eyes. She limps slightly when she walks.

History:

Robyn can remember bits and pieces of her childhood, when she would live with her mother in a rather deserted, worn-down hut in the wilderness. It was a peaceful and humble life they lived, weaving cloth for selling and using what little silver that brought to buy their daily necessities. Along the way, Robyn loved to play make-believe and became quite good at imitating others, especially when she had the right costume to go along with it. Besides being an excellent seamstress, Robyn's mother had a natural gift for healing others. All this, she taught to little Robyn as much as she could before dying of grief for her one love - Robyn's father.

Since then, Robyn has had to fend for herself in the world, relying on what she has been taught to make a living. Seldom dispirited, but never found being exuberant, she exudes an air of worldly solemness wherever she goes.

Class: Healer & Master of Disguise and Weaving

dplax 03-18-2004 02:44 AM

Now we can start things going. I'll have a post up in a few hours only though since now I have to go to class.

dplax 03-29-2004 02:52 PM

Another add on the font colors I am using in the roleplay:
If a character only appears once or twice I am using <font color=blue>blue</font>.
If a character appears several times or is an important character they shall get their own color.

dplax 04-16-2004 03:40 PM

Well as most of you have probably seen the game is advancing really slowly. I do not know what the problem is, it might be that the people playing in the game do not have enough time, or it might be that I am doing things wrong. If you have any thoughts on this subject, suggestions to make for me on improving your fun in this game feel free to do so, either here on this thread or if you want then in pm's.

ADD: If you feel that the game would run better with a set rules system, rather than freeform as it is now, you can also suggest that.

I for one don`t have enough time. I am very busy with school.

Let me desribe my (regular) day:
</font>
 • get up at 7 AM</font>
 • brush teeth</font>
 • eat breakfast</font>
 • be in school for 7-8 hours</font>
 • come home at around 14-14.40 PM</font>
 • prepare for soccer training wich stats at 16 PM and last to 18 PM</font>
 • go to soccer at 15.00</font>
 • train until 18.00</font>
 • get home at approximetly 18.30</font>
 • shower takes around 15 mins</font>
 • eat dinner</font>
 • the hour shows 7.00 PM</font>
 • school obligations (homeworks,studying,etc...)</font>
 • hour shows about 23.00</font>
 • go to bed around 24.00</font>

So you see I am full for the whole day except friday(s) and weekends.

Sythe 04-16-2004 08:37 PM

I don't have as much time as I like to. My day is usually a it crammed aswell.

Larry_OHF 04-17-2004 05:32 PM

I want to see your game succeed, but I cannot carry the whole mission myself.

Here is a suggestion. Some people love to fight, and when everyone thought that a battle was coming up, most people were posting alot. However, that did not happen, and we were then given a chance to carry out missions. The team separated into two groups. Now both of our teams are stuck at places that are boring for most players. Conversations. I always lose most of my players during times like this where there is no immediate threat or any immediate action that is to take place. In order to step up the game, I would suggest helping the team that I am not leading get into the fortress of Morgoth and then scare the shit out of them in there. Give them more than they can handle, with danger at every turn. That will get them moving. As for my team...we need to just get busy searching for enemies and whipping them. We need the game designer to give us a reason to start whipping tail immediately. Maybe my character cannot get out of not selling off the elf, and then we are found out and are put into prison or almost captured or have to fight our way out of town. Now some players love to post conversations if the conversation is actively exciting. My suggestion would be for Mistral's character to throw something at her to catch her interest. Roland, being the young vibrant young man that he is would certainly want to stay close to her to keep her safe, since she is cute enough for him to want to do so...and then my character will have the automatic "father-like" need to care for the both of them, since he drug them into this town. The elf will have to keep himself alive in a town that hate elves and will probably choose to stay near Mistral's character as well...since she is an elf-friend, and is as beautiful as one, I would guess. Elves fall for beauty.

I hope this helps.

Cienden 04-17-2004 06:42 PM

I have three jobs. I think that sums it up pretty well.

Also I haven't played freeform before, so it's a little weird to me just making stuff up and hopeing it doesn't bend the rules too much. Also my one elf never does anything...not Feldorn..the other one...I think he's a wizard?.. And I'm spoiling a for a fight and I'm pretty sure Bober is looking to crack some heads too!

dplax 04-18-2004 05:12 AM

So you want combat... :D
You'll get it then.

mistral4543 04-22-2004 11:15 PM

Hey everyone,

I'm ashamed to say I have to pull out of this game for now. Real life has placed increasing demands on my time :( dplax has very kindly offered to hold on to my character instead of killing her right away I am giving him full rein over her actions and thoughts.

It's been a pleasure RP-ing with you all and I hope you continue to have a fantastic time. Take care

dplax 04-23-2004 06:37 AM

I hope that my feeble tries of imitating how mistral would be roleplaying shall not shame me.

dplax 04-27-2004 11:31 AM

Waiting on posts from Cienden and Sythe.

Edit: And The Fallen One.
