Cerek the Barbaric 06-21-2002 03:31 PM

<font color="palegoldenrod">As our story opens onto the next chapter, the majority of our intrepid group is headed North to face a black dragon that has taken a young princess hostage.

Sir Blandamour and his squire, Eliza, have met with the king and discussed the dragon's ransom demand. He desires a powerful magic item which the king owns. The king has refused to pay the ransom and instructed Sir Blandamour to kill the dragon.

Lady Galadria had stayed behind in Korup-Shun to search for the person responsible for ordering the death of Isaura, a young princess herself who has lost her memory after being attacked and killed by thugs in Korup-Shun. Galadria arrived in time to kill the attackers, but couldn't save Isaura. However, she was able to Resurrect her and restore her to health.

Thier investigation into the attack led to a confrontation with several of the locals in Korup-Shun. During the confrontation, many commoners were slain and the authorities are now seeking the arrest of the paladins....leading them to quickly exit the city. However, the "Pitters" won't soon forget their transgressions and are sure to seek revenge sooner or later.

The rest of the group (Addison, Kishin, Skye, and Ni Deng) have decided to accompany Galadria on the dragon quest. They have been joined - at least temporarily - by Legolas and Sorsha.

Finally, we have TAO and Raymond. Both of them have remained behind to commune and seek fellowship with the local druids in Steeplewood Forest.

And now.....back to our story.</font>

<font color=silver>ooc: Nice summary, Cerek.

<font color=orchid>NOTE</font> - With the departure of the group I will consider the matter between Isaura and Cora and the associated plotlines with the druids to be closed unless Mistral explicitly re-opens the issue. Cora’s vindictive anger will not follow the group out of the city. The druids will move on to other things ..... </font>

<font color=white>Constable Isaaks</font>

<font color=salmon>“I wonder if all of them will leave,” he says as he limps out into the street. How many times has he seen this same scene played out? Champions from other places arrive here only to find that heroism has no value upon these streets and that enemies are both easily made and hard to identify. Always there are the bodies and always there are innocents numbered among the dead and the city is usually worse off for having received visitors. ~ Still, there is some little good to have come out of that senseless slaughter in the Pit. I have a name now for that one who has been moving against me – Adam Silver. ~ He pauses. ~ That name was hardly worth so much death.

He grows silent and the sounds of the city, his city, fill his ears. Sweet and cynical Korup-shun where names and titles are bought and sold as easily as anything else. None are innocent here and none leave this place as innocent as when they arrived. There is a strange and refreshing honesty about that for pretensions cannot last long in such a place. He thinks once more of the name – Silver. A move will need to be made, but it is important not to hurry such things. Absently his hand brushes against his wounded leg. “No,” he says with a wry smile, “the dance here is a delicate one and it is best not to step wrongly.”</font><break>

Iphigenia
</font>

<font color=darkseagreen>The woman who had spied upon them has used some form of magic trinket to vanish. “Interesting,” Iphigenia whispers, “for her sake she had best not assume to be able to repeat this little performance. That would prove to be a foolish and fatal error for she will not survive a second visit to this wood which has now tasted the signature of her life.” Turning to TAOWolf, she smiles, “Not a friend of yours, then, I gather?” She walks through the tangled undergrowth to where the woman stood and touches the earth with her hand. Rising, she whispers an incantation and smiles.

“Come,” she says to TAO. “This foolishness has delayed us long enough and Raymond awaits your company.”</font>

<font color=silver>ooc: Once again, assuming that TAO is willing, the two will step through the tree and emerge near Raymond and Ligeia.

It will be a fatal mistake for any character to enter either the Steeplewood or the estate unannounced in the wake of the previous incident. The women will be neither gentle nor understanding nor will they be caught off guard by any character.

There is no further information about the women available from any outside source. I will divulge what there is to be learned about them as the thread progresses.</font>

OOC>>> Wonderful summary, Cerek And Larry, one more word about NWN and I'll... I'll... you too If you read this in time, Skye - enjoy yourself in China :D For the rest of us, let's onward with the story

IC>>>
<font color=magenta>Isaura

She focuses her attention to the scene before her, ignoring the discomforting presence of Sorsha behind ~ I do hope I will prove an asset to Galadria. ~ Reaching into her pocket to finger the hilt of her dagger ~ "My Lady, if we should have the time, I would be honoured if you would teach me a few strokes of wielding any blade, such as a dagger." ~ Her cheeks reddening a little ~ "I intend not only to defend myself, but do my part to slaughter any beast that threatens to harm you." ~ Her voice faltering a little ~ "I hope I do not sound boastful; it is my sincere wish to be useful to the party." ~ So saying, they continue to make progress towards Galadria's destination.</font>

mistral4543 06-21-2002 08:21 PM

<font color=silver>Sorsha

As she walks on, her mind drifts off to the temple she had dwelled in for a while, before her re-emergence into society ~ Cure light wounds... sanctuary... cure disease... ~ She quietly runs through the incantations in her mind, seeking to reaffirm her memory of this precious and newly-acquired skill. Rather bemused that she has yet to put it to the test, she turns to Legolas and murmurs ~ "Do you know that I picked up a few useful clerical spells back at the temple? I... I, too, hope to be useful to the party." ~ She flushes slightly before continuing ~ "But more importantly, to you." ~ She continues walking, her mind no longer heeding the fact that her feet and body are aching from the exercise.</font>

Skydracgrrl 06-21-2002 10:12 PM

OOC- hehe, thanx Mistral. ^^ Like I said.. I won't be here from SUNDAY to Aug 7th. ^__^ unfortunately for you all, that means no celebrating for another 2 days, heheh.

Attalus 06-22-2002 09:44 AM

OOC>> Nice summary Cerek! IC>
KINN'ZUWANNIK (The great black dragon awakens again to the sounds of the whimpering of his caaptive) "Your Royal Highness, I do not care if it is cold. The place in my heart that held my sweet vase is cold, too. Your royal father had better lose his stubbornness, or I shall start sending him pieces of you through my special messenger. He likes to do things like that." (A rapid buzzing, rather like a large bee is heard.) "Ah, there he is, now." (A quickling enters the cave. NOTE: Now, for those of you who do not know, a quickling is like a small fairy, but acts as if always under a hasten spell. They are quite malicious.)

BZZRP "Great dragon! Great dragon! He comes! The one from the woods!"

KINN'ZUWAWANIK "Ah, my little druid. Let him come in, then."

Attalus 06-22-2002 09:58 AM

GREENTUNIC (He is a middle-aged druid, looking like he has never bathed. His hair and beard are unkempt.)"Hail, Dragon! I have ill news. The ones going to aid Beresfor fought past my ambuscade. My daughter, Diana, was one of the slain. I have managed to restore her life, but just barely. She remains desperately ill of a great gash that the paladin's sword rent in her side."

KINN'ZUWANNIK "Spare me the details of your domestic economy, druid. That you failed is bad enough. So, I must face Blandamour of the Iron Arm, again? Bah, I must be careful. He bested me once before, on a trick. Does anyone accompany him?"

GREENTUNIC (He might have flushed under the grime, but it would be hard to tell. He seems to smile at having bad tidings.) "At this time, only a slip of a girl. Mayus, one of the wolves that survived, said that she did not even get a blow in. But, news from my kindred to the south. Another party, with mages and adepts of great power jouney to join him"

KINN'ZUWANNIK "Mages? Adepts? I do not want to fight all of these at once. Gather your wolves, and some more of your tree-huggers. If you want me to keep these woods clear of humans, you must stop this party. The mages should be no match for your wolves, anyway."

(Greentunic slips away. Word goes out, and any psionics in the party will become aware of hostile thoughts against you, athwart and to the north of your road. Also, you may sense hostile magic.)

OOC>>> Great posts, Attalus! I like them

Galadria 06-22-2002 10:13 AM

LADY GALADRIA(She turns to Isaura and smiles.) "Why do you still call me 'my lady'? It seems that I should be calling you 'your royal highness'! Let it just be Galadria and Isaura, then. Much simpler. Especially if I were to teach you to use that blade. Now, let me see. Hm, wicked looking dagger, some kind of a spell on it, or I'm a druid. Should be a match for my toothpick." (She draws the magical dagger that cured Blandamour so many months before.) "All right, this evening, when we camp, I'll start your lessons."

mistral4543 06-22-2002 10:40 AM

<font color=magenta>Isaura

The promise of the fair paladin brings much cheer to her spirits and the party continues on its way, careful to look out for treacherous beasts lurking about. Perhaps it is their size which deters a direct assault, for they manage to move on with little hindrance.

At long last, when the sun has yawned and retired for its well-deserved rest, the companions, too, search for a relatively safe site with which to set up camp.

Isaura watches silently as Sorsha hurries about, hunting for edible nourishment besides the berries they had gathered along the way. Drawing out her dagger, she studies it with barely contained excitement as she waits for an opportune time to seek Galadria's tutelage once more.</font>

Galadria 06-22-2002 10:53 AM

LADY GALADRIA "All right, Isaura, this looks like a good place for a lesson. Now, since we don't have a lot of time, let me show you how to defend yourself. Assault comes later. Now,hold your dagger in your right hand (You are right-handed, correct?) Put your left hand behind you, like this. Knees and elbows bent at all times. Now, there are eight basic positions that an attack could come from. They are in some frog-eating language that I have never bothered to learn, but the sword-masterfs insist, so I shall, also. They go from prime, as high as you can reach) to octavo. the lowest. Since we may be meeting wild animals, let us concentrate on tierce about eye level, cartejust above your waist, quinzejust below, and sept, down around your knees. All right, I am attacking, go.
"No, try to strike my knife aside, don't try to get my hand. That's called a parry. That's better. When I bore in like that, lock your hilt on mine. That's a [binde, not that any woves will have a hilt. Go for their eyes, instead. Good! One, two, three..."(After an half an hour, Isaura is exhausted but acquainted with the basics of knife fighting.)

Attalus 06-22-2002 02:12 PM

GREENTUNIC (He goes to his daughter's bedside, noting the fresh staining of the herbal compress. Shaking his head, he casts healing magic upon her and sees some improvemnt. Hopefully, he pries th bandage back, but the great rent left by Blandamour's holy sword remains. He goes out and sounds a huge horn. Druids and wolves begin to close in on the party. A giant silver wolf is the first to arrive, and he rushes madly into the campground. Seeing Sanael laying, apparently defenceless, he rushes for him, great jaws a-slaver. More wolves near. A skanky-looking druidess, seeing Skye looking defenceless, casts Enchanted Pebble against her. Elif(sorry, pm me your char's name and I'll edit it in) sees two smaller wolves heading for him, and Harrison is attacked by two similar. Galadria and Isaura are suddenly ringed with three moderate-sized wolves, and Legolas and Sorsha are set upon by a druid who attempts to cast Shambling Mound. You two have the initiative, however.)

Galadria 06-22-2002 03:34 PM

LADY GALADRIA (She feints at one of the wolves with the knife that she is holding. As it falls back, she accurately flings the enchanted blade into the wolf menacing Isaura. The blade, divining its weilder's intent, fills the wolf's veins with deadly poison, causing it to writhe helplessly on the ground. In the confusion, she seizes her sword and whirls about. The third wof has launched itself at her, but she spits it with her blade. The second wolf, recovering, attacks again but is no match for her well-directed strokes, its teeth failing to penetrate the dragonscale that gives her armor its distictive coloring. She whirls about, seeing the others engaged.) "Come on, Isaura, we must help them."

<font color="white">OOC>> Ooops! My humble apologies, <font color="deepskyblue">Sanael.</font></font>

<font color="plum">IC>> Addison surveyed the situation and began casting. His <font color="yellow">ESP</font> had warned of the druids attack, but the wolves were unexpected and the attack had come too swiftly to warn the group or set up adequate defenses.

The first wolf lunged for Addison's neck as he was casting, only to bite nothing but thin air as the mage suddenly appeared two feet to the right of the wolf. With the protection from his <font color="silver">Cloak of Displacement</font> cancelled, Addison could do nothing to avoid the attack of the second wolf. Fortunately, he had been casting <font color="yellow">Stoneskin</font> on himself each day in Korup-Shun. The wolf eliminated one layer, but he still had a couple left.

As he finished his first spell, a small, yellowish globe appeared in his hand. He quickly tossed this <font color="yellow">Minute Meteor</font> towards the druid attacking Skye. It landed right in front of her and exploded in a small ball of fire. Both the druid and Skye were thrown back by the blast, but the the druid took the brunt of the damage.

Addison then began casting a spell to handle the two wolves attacking him. He turned around so that both wolves were in front of him as he said his incantation. As the wolves leaped for him again, a long stream of flame erupted from his hand, burning them severely and setting their fur on fire. They turned to flee into the woods, but their burning fur finished them off before they made it very far.</font>

<font color="white">OOC>> I have several more <font color="yellow">Minute Meteors</font> to release. I will distribute them among the enemies as needed. I will also cast <font color="yellow">Melf's Acid Arrow</font> at the "skanky druid" attacking Skye. It will do a total of 10-37 points of damage. That, along with the Meteor, should hopefully finish her off.</font>

Ligeia’s laughter is still ringing in the night air as a tall woman with long black hair steps out from one of the great trees. She is followed by TAO. She smiles to Ligeia before turning to the young man. "You, I believe, are named Raymond. You are welcome here."</font>

The elf is amazed by the way the wolves and druids had managed to sneak up on them, but knows there is time to think on that later. In one fluid movement, he snatches his longbow and an arrow from his pack and glides in front of Sorsha, instinctively seeking to protect her.
The ranger wonders if they should not take a prisoner, but his arrow is already speeding towards the druid's chest. He runs after it, readying his bow for another shot. The arrow flies away almost before the first strikes the druid. Still he keeps running. As he approaches his unlucky adversary, he pulls free his knife and plunges it between the two arrowheads, utterly destroying the heart.
The ranger turns first to make sure Sorsha is safe, and hastens back towards her.
Then, just before he can reach Sorsha, he hears a woman's voice in his minde sheer volume makes it feel as if his head is bursting apart, and he collapses to the ground, no longer breathing...</font>

Feeling slightly insulted because he was left out, the old man rushes to the druid targeting first Skye, then the elf Legolas with her magic.
Her eyes were still staring off into the distance from the last casting, and Ni Deng had no trouble hitting her.
She struggled to have her eyes focus on him as he punched his fist into her stomach. She doubled over, and the 'gardener''s other hand hit her head from the side, palm first. He hit her head yet again, this time with a solid fist coming from below. The force of the blow straightened the druids back and caused her eyes to snap open again.

Sanael Ganahr

Seeing the great wolf charging down on him, he decides to forget trying to use his bow. Instead he draws his longsword and dagger and takes a defensive stand.

The wolf lunges at him, and he dives to the side cutting a shallow gash in the wolfs flank.

It immidiatly turns around and comes back at Sanael while he is still unbalanced, ducking under his sword and sinking its fangs into his right thigh. But a thrust from the dagger hits it near its right eye, forcing it to release its grip. Sanael sinks down trying to get the weight off his wounded leg.

The wolf hesitates for a brief moment - then lunges again feignting high then ducking low to avoid the swinging sword.

But this time Sanael is ready. As the wolf ducks and closes, he brings his dagger up from below - right through the wolfs muzzle - effectively sealing it's mouth. Then forcefully twisting the dagger, he exposes the wolfs belly and bring down his longsword, slashing it open and mortally wounding the wolf.

"Now that was fancy dagger-work" he snarles (OOC: I hope Isaura was watching :D )

It trashes around in its deaththroes and Sanael looses the grip on his dagger. Instead of trying to retrive it, he checks his immidiate surronding - and finding no enemies trying to engage him, he limps over to his bow and picks it up while planting his sword in the ground beside himself.

"Lets see how those treehuggers like a few arrows in their gullets"

He has only nine left in his Grove, and they are scttered thoughout the land. He sends mental calls to them, but all but one object that the party is too strong. The last, Chiarra, sends a pigeon with the word that she and her pack will attack but not before the morrow at the earliest. Disappointed, he goes to his daughter's bedside and again casts all of his healing spells upon her. Momentarily, her ashen face brightens and she seems in the pink of health, again, but once again the holy sword's wound refuses to heal before the wild magic. SIR BLANDAMOUR (To King Beresfor) "And, why should we do this? Why does the dragon lust for this vase to such an extent? If you fear that he will take the vase and not return your daughter, I will broker the exchange. Believe me, the dragon will not attempt to cheat me."

BERESFOR "He had no right to kidnap my daughter! I shall not add wrong to wrong by giving him my vase! It is mine, I tell you, mine!" (A strange lust glows in his eyes.) "Surely, a Knight of your Order will not leave an inocent maiden in the clutches of a foul dragon! All for a piece of pottery?"

Attalus 06-23-2002 10:10 AM

GREENTUNIC He appears at the slot leading to the dragon's den, startling ZZZrup the quickling, who darts in to tell his master. Allowed in, he cries: "Oh, Dragon who is so powerful! Can you heal my Diana, my only daughter? I thought myself a healer, but the wound on her side will not yield to me, and drains out what life that she has."

KINN'ZUWANNIK "Have I not told you that I care not? Besides, even were I inclined, I would not have the power. She was wounded by Blandamour, was she not? He wields Cold Iron, the sword of Torm during the Time of Troubles. The wounds that it makes heal not by power such as yours or mine, but to it, alone. Blandamour the Thrice Accursed would have to lay Cold Iron's hilt upon the wound, and with good will. You could not force him, or do it yourself. There is one other weapon that could heal your daughter, that is the Dagger of Desire, that wounds or heals, depending upon the weilder's wishes. But, it has been lost in the ages, and no one now knows where it lies, or who possesses it."

<font color=silver>Sorsha

Realising that everyone is trying to protect her, she had felt shame and comfort engulfing her simultaneously. There had been nothing left but the obvious - be less of a hindrance. And so, she had cast sanctuary, such that the attacking wolves would ignore her presence.

As the injured ones now scampered away leaving their fallen comrades, the spell, too, fizzles out and she hurries around, casting cure light wounds on those who require it. When that is done, she rushes to Legolas' side, holding his hand anxiously, her eyes poring over every muscle of his handsome, perspiring face.

"What is it, Legolas?" </font>

<font color=magenta>Isaura

She glares at her sister who is acting the goddess, rushing around healing the companions while she herself stands uselessly, having flailed her dagger about wildly in the face of real danger ~ And so soon, after my lessons from Galadria!

The sight of the elf and Sorsha eats at her as she remembers the way she had likely spurned Raymond. Gritting her teeth, she walks away towards the paladin, smoldering in frustration ~ "Would it be wise to linger around here, Galadria, or should we press on?"</font>

<font color="AACCFF">Legolas

He feels a faint burning sensation in his lungs. Through the ringing of his ears, it takes a while for him to realise he is not breathing. When he finally does, it comes as quite the shock, and he shoots up gasping for air. Less than two minutes have passed since he first fell to the ground, and as he recovers from the initial fright he soon notes he is otherwise fine except for a bruise on his arm where he hit a rock.
It is quickly dismissed, though, as he feels Sorsha behind him. For a moment he thought it was not touch or scent that told him, but something else. Again he dismisses deeper thought and he turns around to examine her.
He smiles upon actually seeing her.

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine now. Are you?"

<font color=darkseagreen>“So they have left. So much fanfare about their arrival only to produce so hasty an exit. A pity, though, for my dear wood carvers have nearly finished their work.” Wearing the aspect of the Lady Cora once more, Melpomene grows silent. She walks slowly about the room pausing before each of the numerous pieces of art, her eyes shining with delight as she views them. “I shall have to find a very special place for the new pieces once they are finished,” she smiles. “It seems our dear little Isaura would rather flee her past than face it. A pity. I had such wonderful plans for her. But there are other matters I must attend to in her absence .....” She smiles once more. “I understand there are visitors within the grove.”</font>

LADY GALADRIA (She watches Ni Deng with amusement dragging a druidess over to her. Her hair is a mess, full of twigs and moss, and her armpit hair that protrudes from under her deerhide jumper has obvious lice. There is a large pimple on her nose. She is wounded, though, so she casts a healing spell on her, after securely binding her wrists. She waits patiently for her to awaken)

ELIZA (After tending the horses, she goes out into the stableyard and sees a parapet. She skips up the tower stair, and, after being greeted by the tower guard, leans over the wall. The beauty of the mountain valley that opens up before her is breathtaking. The steep walls are shrouded in mist from the forest river that wind at its base. Huge pines loom here and there. She sees strange stones and limpid pools. How magical, she breathes. I am so glad to be out of Korup-Shun.)

LADY GALADRIA "Ah, I see that our patient is awake, with characteristic druidic charm and tact. I am Lady Galadria, and these are my friends. However, you are our prisoner, so we shall be asking the questions from now on. You attacked us, you know, you and your foul wargs, so we can pretty much do anything to you that we want." (points to a nearby oak) "You like trees so much, how would you like to be a permanent feature of that one? So, answer my questions. Why did you attack us? Robbery or asassination? If you were mere murderers, who sent you? And why?"

SANCHA (She starts to sweat.) "You...you don't scare me. You're a paladin, they don't do things like that. We hate paladins, they are always going off on quests and upsetting the balance of nature. If people want to do something, you should let them do it. Just because it's good and lawful doesn't make it right."

OOC>>>Sancha??? That is a very peculiar name! Do you speak enough spanish to know who a sancha is? ;)

Ligeia’s laughter is still ringing in the night air as a tall woman with long black hair steps out from one of the great trees. She is followed by TAO. She smiles to Ligeia before turning to the young man. "You, I believe, are named Raymond. You are welcome here."
<font color=skyblue>Raymond

"Y..yes..I am R..Raymond...La....Ms. Iphigenia...I am honored by your invitation and blessings!"

Raymond then turns a warm smile of confidence and joy to his instructor. Running up to her, he hugs her fervantly.

"Well met, Lady TAO! I am glad you have come for me!"</font>

LADY GALADRIA (Picks up a blade of grass and begins to pick it apart) "Oh, I think that you misunderstand paladins. We let nothing stand in the way of the good and the true. You seem to think that makes us unable to deal with our enemies. But this (she throws the shredded grass into the druid's face and her own face frames an unnatural snarl) "is what I do to people and their beasts that endanger my friends and my quest. Look around you. What do you see? Dead wolves and a dead druid. What makes you think that I would scruple to add another to their number?" (She pulls out the magical knife and holds it to the druid's rather grubby neck. The weapon feels her desire, and begins to burn the flesh under it. A wisp of smoke arises.)

<font color="white">OOC>> FYI...Addison does not wear robes. He began his career as a monk and wears an outfit more traditional to that occupation. Loose pants and a sleeveless gi top. He is also 6'3" and heavily muscled (again, from his monk training).</font>

<font color="plum">Addison watches the interrogation carefully. Naturally, he uses his <font color="yellow">ESP</font> spell to read any thoughts the druid may attempt to hide.</font>

SANCHA (She looks around desperately at her enemies. Surely one of them will pity her. She feels the weight of power from the big man with the monkish clothes. Why shouldn't she tell these people what she knows? What does she owe Greentunic or any man?)
(To Galadria, desperately) "We were sent by the leader of my Grove, Simon Greentunic. He said that you would upset the Balance in this region, by shifting power to King Beresfor. He also said that you were allied with the paladin that grievously wounded his daughter, Diana. I...I..like Diana very much. That's all I know. Please don't kill me!"

OOC>> Addison's ESP detects a lie when she says that she knows nothing more.

"I'm fine." ~ She smiles at him happily, before the harsh tones of the interrogation cut in. Together, they advance towards the gathering. Yet while the interrogation holds some interest to her, she knows better than to thrust herself into the centre of attraction. Instead, she watches the druid's anxious expression from a distance, wondering if the attack is somehow related to the dragon which had been mentioned earlier.</font>

Such is the extent of her unabated anger - towards who, she will not readily admit - that she steps forward ~ "May I, Galadria?" ~ And fixes her icy gaze upon the druid ~ "You'd best be telling the truth, you witch." ~ Her hissing voice sounding quite unnatural to her own ears ~ "I don't think we're known for our patience here."

It is too good an opportunity to vent the rage. Raising her hand, she delivers two stinging slaps across the druid's cheeks - one on each side ~ "Let that be a lesson to you, to go against Lady Galadria." ~ Then feeling a little remorseful and embarassed, she retreats to a less conspicuous spot.</font>

OOC>>>Then let me enlighten you! In Mexico, they have their own slang, just like we do. It is a term used in jest to a man or woman when they sneeze.

Sancho if a man sneezes.
Sancha if a woman sneezes.

When you say it to a person you are saying: "Your lover is in bed with another instead of you." ...and that is the reason for the sneeze.
It is fun to say to friends, but rude to say to a married person, and wrong to say to a stranger.

Sancho(a) is the temporary name of that secret lover.

Have I explained it well enough?
