This has been a great journey and the best game I have ever played

BUT

I can not kill Irenicous in the final show down

I have killed all the parasits feeding off the tree of life and have listened many times to his chit chat with his "old flame" but although he deserves to die I can not quite put him out of his misery.

Please help with your thoughts

I have tried turning into the monster. Notably this is the first time I have resorted to this.

I have tried timestops , breach, power word everthing and he is immune

Make sure you are using the correct dispel magics for his protections. You stated only breach. If I recall correctly, he loves to use Spell Trap. Breach is ineffective here. Try Ruby Ray of Reversal or Pierce Shield. I prefer pierce shield, but only because it lowers the target's magic resistance.

Try summoning some stuff. Noteable here are Nishruu's and/or Hakeashar's. Get your best fighters to keep Jon's attention while your mages are summoning. Then pull everybody out of Jon's sight. Because this is primarely a magic battle, the nishruus should hold out long and absorb some if not all of his damage. If one gets killed, due to a death spell or something, just summon another. Don't worry about loosing out on items because once the battle ends, you'll be transported immediatly so you can't pick them up anyway.

The startegy I used is a lot if pets, breach and hack away!

I used skelonton warriors and breach he died very quickly so i didnt really get any chance to try any other tactics.

ok, first the bad news:

this is not quite the final showdown.

the good news?

it _is_ dead easy. heres how:

stage one - run away

stage two - summon the weadiest most pathetic monsters/animals/undead/whatever you can.

stage 3 - send in one of them. laugh as he wastes timestop, meteor shower and all that on a rabid dog

stage 4 - repeat stage 3

stage 5 - save

stage 6 - his spell defences should be down by now. head in for the kill. use the usual enhancement spells while your at it.

well thats the cheesy way I managed without using those tactics.

It was very disapointing how easy he was my character barely got to do anything before he died.

But yes those tactics will work if performed right, but it is a bit cheesy.

Killing Jon Irenicus on the Tree of Life made easy, so easy in fact, you wish you were fighting 4 Dragons instead,

Step 01: Before you kill the last parasite, make sure you cast the following spells on your party members, Resist/Remove Fear, Chaotic Commands on the tanks only, if your main Mage/Sorcerer has the Staff of Magi, cast Spell Trap( lasts 8 hours) from it, all Mages cast Protection from Magical Energy, all Mages and Druids cast Stone/Ironskins, Clerics cast Free Action on all tanks, lastly, get your Mages to cast Spell Immunity( Evocation) and True Sight.

Step 02: Kill the Parasite.

Step 03: Listen to the speeches, blah, blah, blah... ...

Step 04: The fight starts. Get all your Mages to cast any of the following, Ruby Ray of Reversal, Khelben's Warding Whip, Breach, Pierce Shield. Send in the tanks too to hack away, hack away.

Ice Storm? Bah! Your tanks can take it, and your Mages are protected( Spell Immunity).

Maze? What Maze? Got to love Chaotic Command.

Symbol Stun? You got Free Action, lalalala... ...

Symbol Fear? Resist/Remove Magic gives you courage, wheeee!

Symbol Death? Rightttt... everybody has more than 60 Hp.

Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting? Your tanks can take it, and Protection from Magical Energy renders your Mages immuned.

So what can poor Jonny do? Nothing but die, die, die... heh, heh... ...

Unless of course he imprisons your main character..

As far as I know, he does not have Imprisonment, he uses Maze though.

Maze and Symbols can bypass the cloak. The cloak also does not protect against indirect area of effect spells.

battle against mage is all about who has guts, there is not perfect set up to protect you against all the spells. because most of dispelling magic can take away many protections you have on, and that left you re-cast them over and over, so bullshit, screw it

since Jon start the combat with a chain contigency spell, it is not likely he will attack you first. so cast Sim, have the copied image through a sunfire (or chaos sphere)

then the second round, cast incrediant cloud, have the sim cast dispel

by this time, Jon probally attemp some fancy spell or time stop,

if it is a time stop, good luck

if it is not, just have your sim go in, and keep bombard him with sunfires, while at the same time, you start dispelling Jon

chaos sphere and incrediant cloud are two hella effective spell, they might kill jon before you dispel anything, so you have the edge in this fight

remember: have guts whenyou fight wizard [img]smile.gif[/img]

I also had a hard time killing Irenicus but I came with a solution that was soooo easy I almost couldnt believe it (even easiest than the ones posted above). You have to be able to turn into a steel golem, though (via limited wish, or other spell).

1. Pause game inmediatly after Irenicus becomes hostile

2. Take all your npcs out of there fast

3. Turn yourself into Steel Golem

4. Watch and laugh while Irenicus wastes all his spells with you blocked by your 100% MR

5. Through 2 cloudkills or just pounce him to death and kill the bastard

6. Done!

7. Even better, this works with any other mainly magic user foe too!!!

Hmmm... dont know exactly what you mean but if you are a mage and have the limited wish spell, there is an option that is "I want to change myself into anything I want" or something like that (I dont know for sure because I have the spanish version).

If you select it in the special abilites you can turn into a steel golem, or that thing that sucks brains in the drow area (desuellamentes in spanish), or some other things that you normally cant. The olny hitch is that I think it was a wish you could only ask once, but that may change in the 9th level wish anyways.

Wow, I'd never tried that, those "once only" wishes where always ones i was "gunna use later"...thats pretty cool, if i ever get to a tough battle i might use it!

Easiest way to kill Jon is:

Spell Trigger with 3 x Flame Arrow

Just pause game before he gets all protections up and use it. He dies instantly and can't do a single thing.
