Just letting you know that the forum has been upgraded to Ultimate Bulletin Board v.6. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif

Benefits are (for you guys)

1. No longer have to tick show signature.

2. Can use Instant UBB code for bold/italics/url/quotes/etc (just below the message box when you are posting).

3. Can now send private messages to people (check the buttons on top of each person's post, one of the options is for private messaging. Another way to do it is to click on your Profile link at the top of the forum and access your Private Message Inbox that way).

4. Easier search facility if you want to search for a specific person's posts. (It's quicker, too.)

If you see any buttons or links that you may not have seen before, click on them and see what they do. ;)

For more info, click here.

They're definitely coming back - bigger and better than ever. Ziroc's still converting them over, along with some other cool mods he's working on.

Just don't take the rankings TOO seriously, ok? We'd hate for them to be reasons for flamewars and fighting. ;)

With the sig thing, does that mean that we cant enjoy Saz's great sigs anymore?

Sir ReGiN 11-03-2001 04:23 AM

Please, more info on this "private message" thing...What exactly is it?
And how does it function?

Why not get a free website like Angelfire and host your own pictures? Saz made my signature,

Thank you Saz! :D

and I hosted the picture on my own website.

Ths sigs should still all work. For those whose sigs are being hosted by Ironworks, you may just need to change the URL. I'd email either Saz or Ziroc for more details (depending on who's hosting it).

Your sig's working fine, Lord Exxon...I think you have a space between the URL and the closing (/img) tag.

Look for the <font color="teal">Send New Private Message</font> button, it looks like this,

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/No...iv_message.gif

Click on it to send a private message to the person, you access your private messages from the link, <font color="teal">my profile</font> which is at the top of the page under the <font color="teal">Post New Topic</font> button which looks like this,

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/No...stnew-bg2a.jpg

Does this answer your question?

Sir ReGiN 11-03-2001 04:34 AM

Well, sort of...still don't get what it's good for though....

If you have someone that you want to talk to or send messages to regularly, it's a great tool. It's also a great tool for moderators - that way we no longer have to publicly embarrass other people who may have accidentally done the wrong thing (release a spoiler for example). ;)

Trolls and flamers will STILL be publicly flogged, of course. :D

Archon Devangilous 11-03-2001 05:42 AM

my sig is from ironworks old forumm and the anim still works

Only downside is that if people don't clean out their message inbox regularly, the server will get filled very quickly and the board might get slower as a result...

Sir ReGiN 11-03-2001 07:39 AM

Okay, I can see the advantages, still...I think I liked the old forum better
But...what the hell, I'll live :D

Tyrion 11-03-2001 07:52 AM

Oh no!
Not a slower forum.
I liked the last because even I with my 28.8 modem could use it without much problem.

Let's just hope it stays that way!

UPGRADE BAYBEY!

andrewas 11-03-2001 06:30 PM

While you're upgrading the forum, would it be possible to make the search button a bit bigger? i dont know if its possible for the mod to change it, but a bigger button just might stop newbies posting "how do i kill kangaxx" and "where is xxx" of course, it probably wont but its probably worth a try.

Memnoch 11-04-2001 06:00 AM

The Stars/Ranks mod is being installed right now. So you should get your avatars back very soon. You may experience some slowness because of this.

Memnoch 11-05-2001 07:47 AM

Bumping because people are posting questions about the upgrade without reading this first. ;)

Epona 11-05-2001 08:15 AM

Memnoch,
Just a quick question about moderation of the Private Message feature (or not as the case may be).

If someone uses the PM feature to flame another member, or other inappropriate or unwarranted use, will we be able to bring it to the attention of one of the moderators? I would not like to think that someone could use the feature to be nasty without any fear of 'official' reprimand.

If so, whom should we approach in the first instance? Any of the mods? Ziroc? Not that it has happened to me, but with the occasional trolls we have had here it is something of a worry!

You bet. Anyone dumb enough to do this probably doesn't realize that the PM is the audit trail in itself. Flaming someone in a PM is still flaming.

Just forward the offending PM to one of the General Discussions moderators (myself, Ziroc, Ertai or Saz). We'll take appropriate action. ;)
