any thoughts

p.s i am not trying to offend anyone with this and if anyone is offended, tell me and i will delete it (if i know how)

Considering Haer Dalis' possible romance with Aerie, I don't really think that you can call him gay. BTW, I don't find your post offensive, but I DO think that you're not being very wise in making such an assumption.

yeah, but if they took that out...

Debaser 11-02-2001 04:15 PM

Regardless of the fact that Haer'Dalis has a thing for Aerie, you shouldn't judge any NPCs sexuality (or pretty much anything else) from the in-game portrait for him/her.
I personally consider all and every one of the in-game portraits in both BG1 and 2 to be complete crap. I don't want any PC or NPC I ever play to look like that, and because of this I ALWAYS change the NPCs portraits, the moment they join my party, through Shadowkeeper. You'll be surprised how their persona can change through making them look like a badass.......take Aerie for instance...if you juxtapose her maudlin, sensitive way of saying things in the game with the doe-eyed, weirdo portrait they give her in the game, she would be FAR to annoying to ever use (especially through both SoA and ToB)...change her portrait to a different, cool looking and gorgeous golden-haired female, and there you have it--a playable Aerie who may seem maudlin and annoying at times but doesn't LOOK the part 24-7 game time!!!

Rikard 11-02-2001 04:17 PM

I would think it would make an interesting idea
But I don;t think that it will be allowed http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif
Some people are just not open about these stuff
We have a long way to go yet...

Aerie must be one. she talks about how nice Jaheira's hair looks and all. Well, she does have a romance with a male PC, ugh, let's not go there.

I got tons of flam a while back for a similer post, somehow they all assumed that I was gay beacuse I wanted to know if there was any lesbeins in the game, how they came to such a asinine conclusion is beyond me. Anywho, there should be (lesbiens, gays really arent my thing) and after all Fallout 2 is full of that stuff and black isle published that too, so I dont understand why not, I mean you could block that out with a child lock. anyway i'm rambeling.

Wurm 11-02-2001 04:44 PM

I thought there was a patch??

I think it would be cool to let gay players have romances, but I quess they would have to have a button in settings to allow it. Because if the game doesn't know your gay then how is it supossed to start the romance dialog?

And even though I am not gay, I find it annoying that there isn't a built in option. Like the dragon said above...we still have a looong way to go.

All I have to say is... get a life. Its just a game for gods sake, Go out into the real world and find someone to love, I don't care who, but please stop living your lovelife through a computer game.

And no I'm not offended or anything, I just find it sad how involved people get into the love theme in BG2, it's a great part of the game, but I think some people take it waaaay too seriously.

Lol..
If you want a homosexual romance, change your character's sex after you have the romance triggers started up..
But thats kinda gay..

And on a side note, I've always thought Anomen's tough nuts( :D ) attitude was an insight to his inner deep-seated mixed up sexuality and Edwin is really a misguided soul looking for love..
LOL :D

Dude thats not the point, The romances are there to have fun with. And since it is a possiblity that a gay person may play BG II then he or she should have the oppertunity to have a homosexual romance in the game. Fair is fair. But because of Homophobic and or "Christian" responses to such a script would be huge and loud, they can't. Thats what we are discussing. Not the "Its fantasy get a grip on your life and don't take it seriously BS you just spouted. I live reality 13 to 14 hours a day and lately the reality that surrounds me just happens to SUCK!! So if I want to lose myself in a game, in a wonderfull game that just happens to let me romance a girl along with kicking monster's @sses and solving puzzles, SO BE IT!!

Horatio 11-03-2001 04:51 PM

I agree with Jorath; get a life. There is a lot more to the BG series than the romances. Try and play the game for killing things without getting arrested (no, I'm not crazy. I'm just wearing this straight jacket to make a fashion statement) and making a stupid gnomish wildmage who always gets stuff wrong and ends up blowing up his party. If you just play BG2 for the romance options, you might has well have signed onto a dating chatroom.

Vassili_Zaitsev 11-03-2001 05:00 PM

Yo sup peeps. I gotta agree with that one dude who said its just a game. Why are you all fighting about should there be gay or lesbian romances in BG2? Some of oyu kinda got problems but im not gonna talk shit cause i dont wanan make enemies on this board like i did on the day of defeat board for posting cheats. Anyways its just a game man i mean is that the only reason you peeps play BG2? to get romances? that pretty sad....

Wah 11-03-2001 05:27 PM

Chill out.........he DID mean no offence - and here we are, ratting him like he's offended the entire forums!!

Although, he never DID delete the topic line, I do agree that its bad judgement to base NPCs on romances alone.

Anyway, just stick it cool.....play cool, it's not a war on NPCS - and perhaps he even meant it as a joke.

And weird NPCs are like Jaheria - for loving her club. :D

---Phat--Assassin--- 11-03-2001 05:35 PM

LOL i think 1 of the best parts about the game are forums like these, lol bickering about homosexuality in games!! okay ponder this, say 3/4 of the world was right handed and 1/4 was left handed and u manufactured scissors or something, would you make right or left handed scissors? RIGHT!! game manufaturers would use the same logic when making games and wouldn't jepordize the selling of their game for the sake of homosexuality which does not have the majority or even near it

Tarox 11-03-2001 06:13 PM

Yeah isn't it going a bit too far to think of things like that.

I think sometimes people get confused where the line is between game and real life
A game doesn't have to be an exact replica of real life and cater to all the different types of people/things......
The romances in the game are just a fun element they added, its not like its a real love situation here......

Killing Spree 11-03-2001 06:21 PM

Look at the time period... That's all I've got to say.

chinese noodle 11-03-2001 08:04 PM

a lot of people have said that it am taking the game way to seriously, but i wasnt meaning it THAT seriously, like it wasnt a joke, but it wasnt super serious either, also, someonesaid that didnt delete the topic, thats coz no one said they were really offended or anything or told me to take it off.

(also i dont know how to take it off, whenever i try it says i dont have the right password or something)

Guys, i'm still trying to get any romance going...I think Jaheira might be kinda keen on me, but she never seems to anything except complain and ask all kinds of philosophical stuff

Dragontooth 11-04-2001 05:14 AM

I just had to reply to this one. But here is my typical straight male response. Lesbians would be awesome. But would burn the game if there was male fudge packing going on.

Madman-Rogovich 11-04-2001 05:38 AM

lol dragon..wasnt there some bi'curious halfelves in Bg1????

Nith 11-04-2001 05:50 PM

Chinesenoodle ur a perv.

andrewas 11-04-2001 07:26 PM

Actually, there is no reason on earth why they coudnt have included one or two. i mean, i RL you run into them, sometimes one propositions you, you just say no. (or yes, if you want). odds are a homosexual has read this already anyway.

plus, isnt it illegal to discriminate by someones sexuality. it is in the UK anyway. therefore they cant ban it, cause that would be discrimination. of course lawyers know that there is always a counter-argument, but who cares.

oh and the left handed/right handed thing - i would take left handed cos it gives me less competition. the fractions are off tho, its really about 90/10.

crimsonson 11-04-2001 08:53 PM

I still do not understand why 'Mum' is the word in regards to homosexuality in Art & Entertainment.

People get their heads blown off and we rate it PG13- meaning its OK for someone not old enought to get a drivers license to watch somebody get their head blown off and hear a 'funny' one line after.

I think I'll be more offended where teenage sexuality (B Spears) are sold, bought and praised like if it was something relevant.

Maybe Interplay/Bioware did not want to rock the boat? Then again as Picasso said 'Good Taste is the enemy of art.'

tehmpus 11-04-2001 09:31 PM

First, I'd like to say that I'm a bit disappointed that my little dice are gone from the left hand side. This new forum is kinda lame. Secondly, Darth Bob... didn't realize you were gay, mate.
And lastly, it's a game peoples... chill.

So Sayeth the God of WAR!

actually, it's closer to 1 in 7 for men, and 1 in 35 for women

Neth Mage 11-05-2001 09:49 PM

well i am a card carrying homosexual, and i say it would have been amusing had Edwin come out with "the male slaves back home sure could suck a d@#$". i believe edwin doesnt have a romance script, i wonder why....little too sassy for my taste though <eg>

Absynthe 11-05-2001 10:02 PM

Well, time for the other side to weigh in... One of the first things I did with the editor was to get a romance going between my female lead char and Jaheira. Why?, you may ask. Because it's a fantasy game, and that just happens to be one of my favorite fantasies... No big Freudian revelation there, just good old horndog sex drive.
I found the game a little more enjoyable that way. But all in all, it's just another element of gameplay, nothing critical, but fun to mess with. Like playing a different race or class.

tehmpus 11-06-2001 02:12 AM

I suppose my opinion of homosexuality is a bit selfish, and completely whimsical, but here goes.
Gay men should be encouraged, while there should be stiff government penalties for gay women. I'm talking jail terms, death sentences, slow torture, exhorbinant fines... whatever it takes.

And if you have to ask the reasoning behind this...

then you must be gay.
