I was just wondering if you could give your opinion on this:
The "cloak of reflection" you find in the suhaguin-city ....
isnt it overpowered a bit ?
It reflects ALL damage done by a spellcaster onto you back to that spellcaster.
And i dont know if that's just my character, but the damage an enemy spellcaster tries to inflict on you doesnt damage me any more ..
So basically liches fire fireballs and abi-dalzim's at me, i DONT get hitpoints deducted, and the lich dies.
It's a bit too easy isnt it ?

Ghengis Kahn 10-28-2001 05:41 AM

Where is this cloak?

Thanks

It's in the suhaguin city (bad spelling),
You get there by finishing spellhold and then accepting saemon Havarian's deal to sail back with his ship.
After that, you;ll find your way into the city no matter what you do,
Once in the city, try finding an open round place in the map, it' somehwere in the middle (i think) and a little to the north. It's a cirkel-floor and above are hanging jaws ... Here you will be ambushed by some rebels and a priestess,
Kill her and you can get the cloak off her body

I walked into the SPOILER

Tunnel of Gauths and beholders in the underdark and my party got killed and some turned to stone. Then I got my level 13-14 fighter on his own and he massacred everyone. Sometimes it does take the fun away. Try giving him the shield of reflection which fires back missile weapons

Shagrat The Half Orc 10-28-2001 06:20 AM

shield of reflection works against beholder ranged attacks?

No, found that one out the hard way http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

baldurans shield does work against beholder rays tho. very satifactoriliy as well. cloak of reflection should to.

Actually the Cloak of Mirroring does NOT reflect damage from spells like Cloudkill, Fireball, Horrid Wilting or anything with a blast radius. It only reflects stuff like magic missles, or lighting bolts, or any other damaging spell that targets your character and your character only.
Try having a character with that cloak that mirrors electricity damage cast a lightning bolt on a character with the cloak of mirroring. You'll see the lightning bolt fly back and forth for a really long while http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

But .....
Many a lich has been killed by its own Abi-dalzim's horrid wilting, seriously ..
It might be a bug, but i merely stood there, at a distance, while
deirex the underdark lich, founder of Ust natha ... Killed himself with a
Abi-dalzim.
He was near death when he casted, i didnt do a thing, stood far away from him,
and BOOM!!!, i inflicted 45 damage or so ....

Kaz 10-28-2001 08:31 AM

If he centers the attack ON you, it'll be reflected, whether it's Fireball or Magic Missile. But if he aims it NEXT to you, you'll get hurt. At least, I think that's the way it works.

frudi_x 10-28-2001 09:12 AM

actually, the Cloak also protects against area effect spells, even when they're NOT centered on you! it's not supposed to, but it does; probably a bug. I'm not sure though, wheter it just protects you from damage or if it actually reflects it back to the caster.
it does not however protect against non-damaging spells like various Powerwords or Symbols and other mind influencing spells, even when they are centered on you. Dispel Magic, Breach, Lower Resistance... and the like also get through.

Since the original posting was asking for opinions, here's mine:

It is overpowered! The thing too is, it gets pretty addictive to have. Got that in the S City on my first run-through of the game and found it cool. In my next runthrough of SoA, I couldn't keep myself from looking forward to having it again and that thing got me into cheating a bit (a previous NO-NO for me). Damn!

Funny thing, why has my Cloak of reflection turned into a ball/sphere effect on my character when I installed ToB? Is this a bug? I don't very much like the effect as you can't see your actual character pretty much (and the visual effect is also irritating). In SoA, the cloak effect was something like what the Sheild of Reflection offers (a circular ground effect). Just commenting, 's all! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Note: By the way, what's the protocol in this board? Should the poster indicate in the subject itself that the posting is a spoiler or just in the body of the text itself? http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Wouldn't want to "walk into" a spoiler like what happened to Barb. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

You would be correct. It should have spoiler in the title. Probably
just a slip. Back to my opinion, way overpowered. On the flip side,
if you're going solo, it's a MUST HAVE item..http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

When you install ToB, the Cloak of Mirroring gets nerfed, it becomes a Cloak of Absorbing, it no longer reflects back spells, thus the change in animation.

Shagrat The Half Orc 10-29-2001 01:51 AM

I can't believe it, with my new good party I got practically every item in the game except the best one, the cloak of mirroring.
