OK, i did this topic this morning also, but no one would give me a straight answer, just "try again". anyways, I tried reinstalling BG2 and at about 92%, it came up with a critical error on the cd, so i took it out and put it back in. Then about 5 secs later, it asked for Disc 3, then 4 within 3 seconds of each other, then i put them in, then after disc 4, it asked for a disc 5!! I dont have ToB so what is goin on?!?

You have that Afghanistan Windows Install bug.

ok, what is my problem...come on guys i know SOMEONE has to have the answer. Could it be my CDrom?
|
Alright, im just gonna get the newest patch (dont know why), then im gonna get the lastest drivers for my CDrom, then im gonna pray to the almighty Baldurs Gate god and hope that it works....
|
Does it actually read or do any file transfers from disc 3 or 4?
What is the critical error text? Which cd was in the drive when you got the critical error? Could be a registry problem. If you've had BG2 installed sucessfully in the past, you may have a corrupt registry because you didn't finish the install (through no fault of your own). If you feel comfortable doing so, check RegEdit and see if there are any registry fragments for BG2. If you uninstalled correctly the first time, you shouldn't see anything. |
heheheh... ive seen this problem before. did you have the merchant disc5 patches downloaded and installed when you last uninstalled? if so, im afraid thats your problem. im also afraid that i dont know how to solve it, dont remember that... however, now that i have identified the problem for you, perhaps someone else can help you. or you can just do a search for 'Disc 5'. you should get an answer then.

The error came up on Disc 2 at the very end; and no Disc 3 & 4 didnt do anything. So what should i do?..im thinking about changing CD roms and see if that does it, if it doesnt i will have to consult superior advice (my dad who is a comp. tech) thanks for the replies guys/girls
|
How did you reach a 92% installation from just Disc 2? Yeah, your father may be a good place to start, or just call Bioware tech support, maybe you have a bad CD.
|
actually it was 88% (tried again last nite with new driver for CDrom) and it came up with Blue screen of death http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif. I might call bioware...

Bloomington huh? FINALLY someone else who lives in the cold a** state of Minnesota!! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/xyxwave.gif

1. Get a new cd....might not work? or 2. oh damn, how do you say it in english..."formatera om" in swedishhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif...well it's when you erase everything on a hard drive through DOS... I think that the second one might be the solution... |
Try installing it onto a different computer. If it works your cd rom is fried. If not, your disks are.

Hi I had the same problem.
Make sure you completely uninstall the old version on your hard drive. (except save games, custom portraits sounds etc) Thats what I did and then installed. After disk 4 it then asked for disk 1 again and worked. Good luck. |
nghh!!! your disc5 problem is caused by the fact that you had the bonus merchant patches in the bg2:SoA folder when you uninstalled. that is the problem, ive seen this before and have been very careful to avoid this problem myself. i dont know how to solve it though, perhaps someone else could help him there?
|
I never had any Merchant pack thingie majober. I put in a new CDrom and it worked...Go figure http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/smiles/338.gif

Oh yea...THANK YOU ALL for your help in trying to solve my problem, at least i can count on some people to help me...(my dad just shrugged...loser)
