Writing scrolls is the key!
First of all, There's a spellbook limit per level for mages. It's INT-5 modifier. For example if your intelligence is 16 you can scribe 11 spells per level. But you can increase it with potion. The effect is temporarily but the spells are written permanent. Well, so you can memorize max 20 spells per level except level 8 and 9 because there's 14 8th level spells and 16 9th level spells. Well let's calculate 1000 Exp X 20 2000 Exp X 20 3000 Exp X 20 4000 Exp X 20 5000 Exp X 20 6000 Exp X 20 7000 Exp X 20 8000 Exp X 14 9000 Exp X 16 Total is 807.000 Xp But I said 3.200.000 right? Well, how many mages there's in the game?? (Yes, you need 4 scrols of per spell to let all your mages memorize) Aerie, Nalia, Edwin, Jan. So... 807,000 Exp x 4 = 3,228,000 Exp! |
HMm intresting, may have to try that

so like, where are you finding all these 7-9th level spell scrolls?
how many gp would this take to buy the ones that actually are available? how much running around is required to acquire these scrolls (i'd love to find one place to pick up 3 or 4 spelltraps, spellstrikes, etc)? 3,200,000 divided by 6 characters is 533,333 apiece, which for most characters capable of obtaining such scrolls, is about one to two levels. and assuming you dont keep each and every one of the four, 500k is what you're wasting per. you can make a pizza by tilling the land, growing wheat, planting tomatoes, raising dairy cows, constructing a kiln oven. or you can go to the store and buy the ingrediants. or you can call papa john's. all in all very clever if it wasnt so darn useless. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif |
Did I said 3,200,000?
> > > > > > > > > Actually.. > > > > > > It's not 3,200,000. > > > > > > > Yes, unfortunately I miscalculated it, it's not 3,200,000. Sorry.. > > > > > > > > IT'S 4,000,000 EXPERIENCE POINTS!!!!!!! Oh Imoen how could I forget you my sweet sis! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif To be a mage or not to be a mage http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif A question: What's the difference between a sorcerer and a mage? Answer: 807,000 Experience Points!!! ------------------ A note from heart may heal all the wounds of my blessed friends.. |
Well but all XP's you gained are divided to six. So is there any quest which gives you 4.000.000 Exp points? And even you can remove 3 person from your party for a while, and share xp with only 3 person or 2? So 2 million each.
Maybe you cant find 8&9 level scrolls anywhere but 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 spells can be found everywhere! SLums, Trademet (2 great spell shop), Wauken Promenade (Adventurer Mart and Spell store) and more.. Even without 8 and 9 level spells it's 807,000 - 150,000 = 650,000 Xp And I'm sure that through the final (and after the final of course in ToB) you'll have lots of 8 and 9 level spells. |
my point is while it is "possible" and even "allowed for", it's a bit like importing in a character over and over to get duplicates of unique magic items. technically you have to do the same thing each time to acquire them, so in an extreme (-ly lame) sense they are earned, but please... if you just want extra xp, use clua or shadowkeeper. far less wear and tear, same result, and that same great cheese flavor you love so much.
|
why dont you just cheat? exploit system is just as absurd
and your way, dare I say, is not the smartest [This message has been edited by 250 (edited 09-05-2001).] |
I dont use shadow keeper cause I dont like cheating. Importing items characters etc these things are all cheating but it's not.
Because it has a function to gain xp in a normal way. For example you found Imoen later and she's at very low level. You can let her advance level with this method. And even you disgraee you're gaining almost 1 or 2 million xp of your tottal xp by scribing scrolls. I didnt really understand why youre so agressive bout that? ------------------ A note from heart may heal all the wounds of my blessed friends.. |
Ok, forget the argument of statistics, look at it from another point of view, how incredibily dull is it to gain experience by learning scrolls, Baldurs is for fun, not dull permutations and manipulations...
|
Zoltan, FWIW you also forgot Haer'Dalis, who can also get XP for writing scrolls.
|
now thats intersting but i have a question ik have nobody that have
with wizards spells a nine level do |
Of course it's for fun, I just found out that I have 3 mage in my party and they can gain xp in this way and I found out that a high percentage of xp's you gained are gained in this way. I just wanted to share this thing with you. that's ok?
|
Moreover I like to find these kind of clever things. CLoudkillon dragon for example http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif) I had found one in Heroes Of M&M 3, if you're interested in Heroes Of M&M 3 I can ask you a puzzle bout game which requires INT modifier.
|
dude, this is a commen sense, but thanks for calculating, not like we ever gonna use it in real game
[This message has been edited by 250 (edited 09-05-2001).] |
yeah, its obvious that this can be done. But I personally wouldn't spend the time to do it. By the time you get to level 20-25, levels aren't as important as good equipment anyway.
|
Not to mention that not all the spells would write unless the diff was low enough, and even then low lvl mages would need potions of genius.
|
WAITAMINUTE!!! you forgot another wizard to learn spells!
you can raise yoshimo's intelligence with potions and dual class him to mage! p.s. good luck in life if you think this isn't cheating. |
Do the words experience points cap mean anything to you people?
Sure, you can remove that, but that's cheating too, seeing as there is no official patch to do that. And if you have ToB, who needs that much experience anyway. If you want to go over the experience cap without using cheats, you'll have to buy ToB. ------------------ The last arrow of Legolas kindled in the air as it flew, and plunged burning into the heart of a great wolf-chieftain. Oh I know, I know! Play with You as Mage, Edwin, Jan Jansen, Aerie, Nalia, Yoshimo dual-classed to mage (If even possible) and also Haer'Dalis.
Whoa... Now that would be a useful party. Oh joy. That would sure be whole lot of fun http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Oh yes http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif |
What's the difference between a sorcerer and mage?
807,000 xp! I dont like sorcerers being a conjurer is more exciting. Not dual classed kensai pure conjurer. But also I like dualed classed thieves like Nalia. A bow using mage is geraat |
My opinion... I repeat it.. My opinion is that Sorcerer is funnier to use than a mage like conjurer. Your opinion... I repeat it too... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Your opinion is that conjurer is funnier than my sorcerer to use.
I still can't see the point in these "Using that and that is stupid because that and that are better" no offense, but I think it is pretty odd http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif |
To each his own.
It all boils down to your style of play. Having said that, read my sig! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif ------------------ If not a Sorcerer, then a Paladin. http://www.gifs.net/animate/dflysb2.gif ------------------------- Baldur's Gate Item Mart |
wow dude thats awsome!

come on! even I don't cheat like that!!! teehee http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
nice one... HEY I GOT A BRILLIANT IDEA!!!
Why don't you all just go and play the game!!!!! There's tons of experience just waiting for y'all out there....CARPE DIEM! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif ------------------ |
Man... does people really try to find loopholes in a game where there is no problem to cheat? gosh... he has to much sparetime
------------------ We call him Bobby Corwen http://www.finalfantasy.nu/forum/minichoco.gif |
Yes I agree totally, what was the point again? Oh yeah to have fun.
|
Honestly I don't see this as much of a cheat. Its stupid that the xp from learning a scroll is shared with the whole party. Its quite obvious that this can be done and I do not doubt it was brought up at some stage during development of the game. I don't think I would spend my time going and fetching all the mages to do it since I typically hit the xp cap anyhow but its no different than a thousand other stupid things (like casting cloudkills, fireballs etc 1 after the other into a room. Gimme a break thats more lame than anything else. Where is the fun of not even being there when the monsters die?)
|
They are the proud the numerous- the power gamer. They will maliciously take all good uber items and use them beyond their natural use...... take kensai/mage for example- no one suspected they could dual to mage (well, the xperts did) and they simply found a way around that stupid lil rule about kensais- cant wear actual armour- didnt say anything on MAGICAL armor did they? Nononononooonno! they didnt. God, they are a GOD at the games because they slipped away from one simple minscule rule on kensais!
