Does anyone know of a better way to defeat Iron Golems? I have to use "Summon Woodland Animals" and have the bears defeat him. Is there another way? I'm trapped in one room of the Planer Sphere and I'm out of that particular spell.

+3 Weapons
Not certain but how about fire elementals?

jabidas 08-29-2001 07:54 PM

If you have a wand of cloudkill use that to kill him, works on all golems.

I REALLY hate golems. Most of them are immune to slings, arrows and bolts and this means you end up fighting them toe-to-toe, running the risk to take up to 40 damage in a single blow. The nastier golems,in my opinion, are the Stone Golems because they haste themselves and slow your party.

Heehee, lucky I got a Sorcerer with that spell. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

But yeah, lots of MMMs. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif You will notice the Iron Golem blocks the smaller Golems, soooo, turn off the AI and tell your Mages to hit the smaller ones first. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Thanks for the help, everybody. I have a wand of cloudkill with a couple of charges left on it, so I'll give that a try.

my fav tacikes with golems are to find the largest one like ada or iron and lure them to doorway and have all the other lessor bunch up behide him and i slaughter them with my tanshinanw bow the one that creates arrows, and it can hit liches, iron, ada, dragons, and basically almost everyone, haven't tested it on the damned floating skull dude.

heh siscraium rocks with a archer, heh its so funny to have an clone and ureself and when youre soloing that clone is big help http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif and he has like -11 thac0 and my main like -15 thac0 so both always hit and both has greater whirl wind so that translates into 10 hit a round, its unbeliveable how fast mosters fall to my two twins http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif

Golem's have a "weakness" for blunt weapons (espacially war hammers ( and espacially the +1, +4 vs. giantkin (d'Arnise Hold))) That's why those bears could defeat it. Oh, and about that cloudkill stuff, how long does that take instead of a good fighter that wields a warhammer http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif But then again, I like warriors more anyways

not all golems are weak against blunt. I believe stone golems are immunt to it.

Strangely enough, I found that the "Azure Edge" axe works on Golems. I just lead the big boys to a door they can't get through and pelt them with the axe while I go get a pepsi. It takes a while, but they will fall. Dont forget the set traps ability beforehand works well too.

Not so, Dimon37, I have beat all golems with blunt weapons, they might have some resistance over the others, but all golems will sucumb to the mighty blunt hammer against it's head...http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Side question on archers, even thought they have great thaco's, are they capable of hurting iron and adaminte golems with just arrows? I would think that towards the end of the game they would have problems. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and I might try one out.

Azure Edge is +3
and +3 is needed to hurt that iron bastard

Like what kind of problems are you talking about?? i'm very close to get into ToB with my first solo character the archer and was able to down all of the mosters, some gave me problems but i worked and used my good ol friend bob to help me out, (note: bob is my lessor air elemental from the air staff, it rocks)

IrishHound 08-30-2001 11:06 PM

I guess what I'm trying to say, Thrawn, is that certain creatures need +3 or better weapons to damgae them, and while an archer may get great to hits and damage using a bow, if the arrow itself is only a +2 arrow, how are you able to hurt them. Even if your bow is a +3, it's the arrow that does the damage! Someone straighten me out if you can, I'm sorta confused on this issue.

Arachnia 08-31-2001 05:28 AM

Just bunch them up behind an iron or adamant in a doorway, then use any combo's of the following (all easily available early in SOA)

Tansherons bow, Azuredge, Sling of Everard, Melf's Minute Meteors.

All ranged, all count as at least +3, kiss your golem problems goodbye

Yup that is indeed a serious problem and the only solution i found so far was to use a bow that doesn't require arrowes like Gesen Bow
because their magical arrows count as the + number of the bow in gesen bow's case +3

Lower Resistance if you can face them in melee.

Thrawn 08-31-2001 06:43 PM

oh that's what you was refering to, that problem, i never ever had a problem with that, i simplely used normal bows untill i got out of the first dugeon and worked my way out of the town and then i headed right to trademeet and got that one magic bow that don't req any arrows, it can hit dragons, liches, ada golems and all that crap, all i got to do is grab the string then i'll have my bow of genshin (sp)

i personaly didn't find it much of problems at all really.

Yes, this is true against adamantite and iron golems who are too big to pass through doors...but not so effective on the other golems. I managed to have just 1 or 2 shots before those nasty Stone and Clay golems gang up on me.

Aurum 09-01-2001 11:42 AM

Weapons +3, magic weapons (no blunt? recommended), fire spells.
