QFLASH 01-29-2002 12:51 PM

right now i have a party that consists of Me-17th lev monk
jaheira,minsc,keldorn,aerie, and imoen.

I go into battle with My monk, minsc, and keldorn. Mean while i cast spells w/ Aerie and imoen. But i have no idea what to do with Jaheira.
What weapons should i give her, what spells should i use, or should i just go and find another party member.

I am currently in underdark....so it might have to wait a while but she isn't really much of a factor at this time....

daan 01-29-2002 01:02 PM

Well, when nicely equipped, she's a good fighter,
but ... and this says it all ...........
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Insect Plague !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See your enemy's run in fear and ALL spells disrupted

QFLASH 01-29-2002 01:05 PM

are you serious, i never really thought of even using that spell. still, would it be better to replace her with a thief? I mean there is only so much use out of one spell?(right)

Kikakee 01-29-2002 01:06 PM

I usually give her a decent staff and a sling and she stays with my archer's. She uses the sling unless someone passes my tanks, then switches to the staff to protect my ranged attackers

Kikakee 01-29-2002 01:09 PM

Oh Yeah! "Insect Plague" is great :D

QFLASH 01-29-2002 01:19 PM

yeah but at higher levels is she really worth it, I can't hold on to her for spells like insect plague, i ave her equipped with a spear(the impaler i thinks its called +10 to damage)

Hi QFLASH!

Jaheira is one of the most versatile and useful characters out there. She's a capable tank and a good backup cleric/healer. Her good attributes include high dexterity, so if I were you I'd give her a good sling and shield, put another point in her Slings proficiency and make her your ranged fighter.

She's also a great summoner. Her Fire Elementals and Insect Swarms can solve many problems. For outdoor battles her Call Lightning spell rules.

You don't need another tank, but if you wanted her to fill in that role (if something happened to Minsc, for example), just stock her up on Ironskins, give her a good club (Blackblood +3 in Trademeet is great) and let her loose.

Hope this helps!

QFLASH 01-29-2002 01:39 PM

what does blackblood do?
the spear she has is pretty effective(the impaler)
+10 to damage!!!

Sorcerer Alex 01-29-2002 02:18 PM

I really like Jaheira, she's a great NPC. Give her the girdle of hill giant strength, fortress shield +3, gauntlets of dexterity, full plate mail, staff-mace, ring of protection +2 and the ring of holiness, and watch the ensuing destruction ;)

Auraleus 01-29-2002 02:23 PM

Jah has always been a staple for me... everygame I have played, she has been there.. and she has always been useful

I understand where you are coming from tho, sometimes in fights you have everything set up.. and Jah just kinda sits there with a sling and you feel like there should be something better going on...

Yet, at the same time.. Jah has single handedly made fights that I couldn't get through cake walks...

She has decent offensive spells (outdoors at least) and the insect line of spells is invaluable... you ask if one spell is worth it, but quite frankly.. YES

Also there have been fights completely turned around because beforehand Jah whips up two gigantic fire elementals and three sirens... the sirens are holding, fearing, and charming everything while the fire elementals are beating people down like there is no tomorrow..

Sometimes I wish Jah was a pure druid instead of a hybrid, but because of her fighting skills there have been times that when my party gets ambushed, I just have Jah run up to the nearest enemy and start cracking it with her club.. she can hold up on her own, and esp if you get her on the enemies cleric or mage.. she can completely pull that enemy from the fight through distraction..

While she has no specific use (aka- aerie is gonna nuke, while minsc is gonna tank), her versitility has saved my sorry butt in more then 60% of my battles...

Whenever I am stocking her spell book, I load up on the spells that I can never think of an immediate use for (zone of sweet air, summoning, etc)... and when I am in a situation i didnt expect, or am caught of guard, its always Jah who pulls me out of the fire

QFLASH 01-29-2002 02:32 PM

i guess i could see her uses after all, i should probably summon with her more frequently. Where do i get the ring of holiness? and what club should i give her, i thought the spear she had was pretty cool.(see above)...

Ring of holiness is a quest reward from temple of LAthandor, I think... you get the choice of ring of holiness, holy armor, or staff spear

the spear is cool... but she starts out with good club+sword/shield profficiency... I always end up giving her the +3 club.. black something I think, I forget.. and the shield of reflection from adv mart (shoots ranged weapons back at enemy) or a good shield that will drop her ac 3 or 4 more points... you can buy/steal large shields+2 in the promonade from the armor merchant (2 tiers up from AM)

I personally like to drop Jah's AC as much as possible so she can run amok in battle

Helspanth 01-29-2002 04:11 PM

Jaheira can be a most effective tank.In my games she has more kill than keldorn.
She can reach an extremely low ac and that cobined with steelskins is frightening.
Also Insect plague is THE anti-mage spell and also usefull in many other battles!
Plus she is one of the most well developed characters in the saga.

Yes! Let me just split this into two separate things:

- She has the best non-stronghold side-quests in the game, in terms of equipment, experience and story.

- She allegedly has a fantastic romance -- I haven't yet completed it, I fooled around with Aerie and now I'm doing Viconia (pun intended).

Weapon wise, stick with the Impaler +3. No club beats it, not by far. Always maintain Ironskins. Insect Plague is good in magic fights. Fire Elementals and Mountain Bears are good summons.

PoesRaven 01-30-2002 11:32 AM

For all those TDD fans, I have Jaihera at -14 (i think) AC.Thanks to some new items.
Jaihera is perhaps the best NPC in my opinion except Minsc (and boo of course), she has the best NPC quest (except maybe Valygar), and Terminsel will give you lots of lovely EXP when he arrives if she is around(i think you need to be in a Romance, im not sure).
For anyone who never spotted it, Terminsel is an anagram of Elminster )

Nifft- You cannnot use a shield if you are using a sling (2-handed).

Dundee Saytern- I also used the summon fire elemental heaps o times

For anyone who read the CHEESE posting, I consider Insect Plague to be Cheese, almost to the point of cheating. It just makes the game dull and way too easy.
I actually got kicked from a multiplayer game because i killed a Druid who ALWAYS used that spell (grrr) and then crowed about how powerfull she was. Lillacor put pay to her, and a multiplayer session of several hours :(

Helspanth 01-30-2002 12:01 PM

@PoesRaven
sling is a 1handed weapon.Of course you can use it with a shield!
You have to admit however that almost every good spell can be labeled cheese.
Insect plague is one of the best.It isn't cheese for me.Chesse is to exploit a bad AI or an in game bug.
There is an exellent topic in the forum that discusses cheese.
Back to Jaheira Nifft got it absolutely right.THE NPC!!!

QFLASH 01-30-2002 12:44 PM

i tried using insect plague for the first time last night, with no success, is there something i should do before casting?

Helspanth 01-30-2002 01:00 PM

What do you mean exactly by no success?
The spell doesn't allow a save!Possible MR?

QFLASH 01-30-2002 01:16 PM

i think he might have got protection up first, would that have done anything....i've never used this spell....what am i supposed to see?

Big Red 01-30-2002 01:44 PM

You're supposed to see a swarm of insects head towards the target, and then spread out over up to 6 targets, causing damage and 100% spellcasting failure.

Insect Plague and Iron Skins are so good, I usually fill all her level 6 spells with Wondrous Recall, so I can have many more of them.

Another good spell, if you've got spare level 4 slots, is Call Woodland Beings: the summoned creature can mass heal your party. I usually cast this after a fight in case she dies before healing.

Azred 01-30-2002 02:58 PM

Insect Plague, eh? I suppose so, but I prefer Creeping Doom, myself. In fact, Jaheira is the linch-pin of my assaults on dragons; after lowering their magic resistance, they usually don't last too long against 2 damage per second and 3 physical attackers.

Helspanth 01-30-2002 05:30 PM

Is creeping doom really good?
I thought that insect plague was better mainly due to the 100% spell failure.Creeping doom allows a save for 50% spell failure right?

Lucifer Lord of demons 01-31-2002 12:34 AM

No creeping doom disrupts spells at 100% but it does twice as much damage as insect plague(but its still a waste of 7th level slot!)
And to those who still doubt they should take Jah well consider this:
....SEX CRIM!!!

QFLASH 01-31-2002 10:13 AM

so what 7th level spell should be memorized?

Helspanth 01-31-2002 12:32 PM

Nature's Beauty.

Jaheira rocks!!!!!!

she's the only woman tank/spellcaster

when i have so many enemies, i use the creeping doom then hac them with weapons.....

creeping doom is also good in attacking spellcaster, for when it damages them, their spell casting fails
