I just finished Underdark and the drow quest. the dragon-lady left me someplace, i killed everything there. Then i leave this "sacrifice" at the feet of a statue and .....
i cannot get past these things!! Party consists of- Evergreen (level 14 druid), Viconia and anomen (level 20now!) Jaheira, Imoen, and Minsc (levels 13 to 17 i think). These things not only are almost TOTALLY magic resistant but they hit like golems and they LEVEL drain! ok i can get over the level drains by casting Prot.neg plane, AND i cast protection from fear on group too. there are just too many.. any way i can pull them singly out and ambush them in the hall or something? What kind of method is recommended for this.. and is the reward worth it? (Can anyone in my party use the reward?) How come those darned clerics leveled SO fast? My druid has been the same level for ages! |

Perhaps you took a different route, but that's how the Underdark ended for me once she dumped me off. I know it wasnt too helpful but perhaps if you could backtrack to where she dumped you off you can look and see if that exit is there. [This message has been edited by Waluin (edited 07-17-2001).] |
Oh ok because i chose to into the cave deeper and found some things to kill and there's this killer demons room. THey come after you place a summoned animal under this statue... anyone been here yet? Maybe this is part of ToB? surely not!?

I chose not to based upon the fact that the dragon said that it would be tough going back there if she hadn't have helped transport me. So, in a bout of self-preservation/lathargy, I just took the exit and got the heck out of dodge. However, I'm sure there is someone who did what you did. They'll find this thread and will be able to help, I'm sure. Good luck http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif |
Hi, you don't HAVE to go and fight these demons, but if you don't you may well miss out on the most powerful weapon in the game, an ingredient of which is held by these creatures. As for strategy, I put my party in one corner where one of the things appears and summoned aerial servants and things into areas where the others appear. (I think there are five in total.) I then used my party to attack the creatures individually and hoped that the summoned creatures could at least stall them for a bit, while my main party attempted to pick the demons off one by one, or at least that's the idea. Hope this helps.

Iv done it several times. You get the Soul Reaver + 4 if i remember right and its not usable by good characters. I lured them into the passage way one by one and took them down. They are not that hard on their own http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

There are 5 (or 6) demon knights and they are all pretty tough. They have high MR and can all cast Power Word Kill so make sure your HPs don't drop below 60 for your tanks. There are a few tactics for this. The semi-cheezy one is to lure them out to the bridge just outside that room and fight them one-on-one. If you decide to stay in the room, make sure you have lots of summonings blocking the way between you and them. They will appear in the corners of the room so buff up your tanks and try to concentrate on killing one at a time. The spell Lower Resistance and Greater Malison really come in handy here.
One thing: your druid will max out at Level 14, unfortunately, they did not support the druid powers beyond level 14 for BG2. For ToB they have (sort of). ------------------ http://www.angelfire.com/anime2/memnoch/memnochsig.gif |
When I say most powerful weapon in the game I am NOT referring to the Soul Reaver +4.
OK, spoiler coming..... . . . . . . . . . . . They give you the girdle of frost giant strength which is necessary to make the crom faeyr. |
Whew again. I dont have anyone signifcantly proficient or needning a war hammer.
But wow! Its nice to know that it's there just in case I stop by later with a party that does. |
Just checked on those demon knights with sk and they have lots of spells; imprisonment, horrid wilting, spell turning, finger of death etc. 75% magic resistance aswell.
|
OK just so you know. Without wanting to sound pushy I think that later on in the game it really becomes invaluable, in my humble opinion of course.

It was a good battle, but it was manageable with good critters (Mordenkainen's Swords, Fire elementals, etc...) No cheese tactics necessary, although it is helpful to have lower resistances memorized (and in a spell trigger, if possible). That way your spells will work. Magic Missile is your friend, BTW, as they will have to save vs each arrow.

I agree with Altranan, Crom Faeyr is the most powerful weapon in the game bar none. Even with ToB it's one of the top 5 weapons available.

wow
thanks for all the responses! hmmm level 14 really that's it? I am a single-class druid and i just installed ToB so hopefully i will go past level 14 ... Yes my party relies heavily on summoned creatures- my only real tanks are Jaheira and Minsc :/ I cast 3 skeleton warriors, an aerial servant and a fire elemental, since i figure the skeletal warriors absorb much magic damage by being resistant themselves.. but yes they just aren't lasting long enough. I reserve viconia to keep re-summoning these to keep the demons busy.. while the others hack at each individually. I even turned minsc into a troll for that great regen ( cloak of the sewers) but he went down fast still. I have hasted, blessed, armored, and jaheira has a -11 ac and minsc has a -9ac too http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif Would be nice having that hammer since i have anomen in the party...eventually. level 14 for a druid is it?? i still can't belive it, as i thought i saw in the manual they go higher, look at page 230?? i get "hit dice" whatever that is maybe? Thanks again for the prompt replies! |
This was a *tough* battle. I'm not sure if you all will consider this cheesing out, but it was the way I beat em.
Summoned two Mord. Swords and two Skeletal Warriors (then hasted and blessed them), and one Animal (War Dog) Moved my whole party out near the bridge except for Edwin /w boots of haste, stoneskin, imp. invis., and magic resistance. Then I moved the dog up to be sacrificed, while at the same time moving Edwin out the door, and leaving the summoned swords and warriors behind (in each corner of the room). The Demon Knights then appear, but by this time Edwin is through the door and has shut(!) the door behind him. Carnage is going on in the demon room now. The plan was to wait a bit, and then open the door with Edwin and cast some Abi-Dalzims to finish off the Knights, but as soon as I opened the door, Edwin got nailed with a Power Word, Fear (I shoulda cast resist fear!!) and became useless. There was still one Sword and one Warrior left fighting the knights (and getting destroyed), so I decided to just rush in there and finish it while they were distracted. I cast stoneskin, spirit armor, imp. invis, fireshield, mirror image, blur, negative plane protection, and tenser's transformation on my character (dualled Kensai/Mage), kai'd, went in the room and just absolutely wasted the demon knights. I probably just should have done that from the start, would have saved time http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Not sure if any of the above could help you, Jeannada, but it was fun to remember anyway. As for this little fight not being worth it if you don't use war hammers, or the 'evil' two handed sword, I disagree. You can still use the girdle, which, IIRC boosts strength to 21, something ANY party can use. |
