Ok so With all these d&d games coming out I have one shampoo simple question...Am I alone in wanting a Dragonlance CRPG? Am I really the only one who wants to play in that one instead of Forgotten realms where the lion's share of everything has been going on? C'mon no one else wants to mix it up with some draconians or a dragon highlord? this cannot be. so people gimme some opinions and or news if you have it. thanx My curiousity got the better of me

Id love a dragonlance game but based on the Margret Weis and Tracey Hickman books (Raistlin, Tanis)not the fifth age of Krynn and garbage like that. Major problem being the series is being discontinued or so I hear. Great books BTW drop by the book forum some time.

Of course i meant the tanis and raistlin years, not that 5th age debacle. LoL what a crappy game that would be. No magic no clerics NO FUN. Discontinued are you serious? I thought they were reviving it, getting rid of that 5th age mistake and bringing back the gods and whatnot....at least that's the impression I get from the new trilogy, war of the souls (dragons of a fallen sun/lost star)...I thought they'd be bringing them back for the 20th anniversary or something. it looks like it's gonna be one of those i shot JR it was an alternate timeline created by tas thing although it's still way up in the air cause it won't be out for another year. Where'd you here it was getting shelved? they just did new printings of test of the twins and the chronicles so I'm trying to take that as a sign that they arent.
PS book forum? |
Amen brothers and sisters! I'm all for an RPG set in the Raistlin/Tanis et. al era of Krynn on two conditions:
1.Bioware does the game 2.It is set during the period of the original trilogy... |
I cant remember where I heard it , it just came up in a conversation one time. I never bothered much with the fifth age books read one and said no Im just going to leave that good image in my mind of what it was like at the end of Legends.
Yes the book forum click where it says Ad&d books and your in, its just above the button for general discussions, its not just Ad&d any more but books in general. There are a couple of threads you should check out, the welcome one, fav writer and charecters you like to introduce yourself. ------------------ http://www.facelink.com/edit/raw/raw...43/1922643.bmp |
I have done some hunting in my typically bored collegiate sunday way and discovered the following: TSR is NOT going to do a third edition of Dragonlance (Explitive of your choice here) but will contiue on with everything else as normal. i reiterate my desire, no need for a dragonlance CRPG, storm black isle and inform them of our demands and we will never be hungry again!!! (somewhere in there I started hearing 'glorly glory halielua and it all just unwravelled. but I do stand by my position) I will Not rest until i can be a Red robed mage!(a cool one, not one of those ponces from thay)
|
The thay thing wasn't a knock, merely my excess of pent up emotion bubbling over. Hope that got across and no one was offended...if so..you have sincere apologies
|
You shouldnt worry about mocking things in forgetten realms, no ones going to jump down your throat about, hell whenever someone talks about Elminster one of the Moderators always steps in calls him a munchkin and laughs at him being a cheap Gandalf rip off.
I want Black robes. ------------------ http://www.facelink.com/edit/raw/raw...43/1922643.bmp |
See that's the thing you could have a load of fun like a half dozen blacks reds and whites to chose from for a mage, and if you could make it so you can become a dragon highlord or kill a dragon highlord i picture the breakdown of civilization No one would leave their homes! Or a kender thief? the humor is right there waiting to be picked up on I mean...D'rizzt is cool in a double weilding drow way but...while playing wouldn't you love to run by tanis or raistlin, or have some stuff filtched from your pocket by tas, stay at the inn in solace, I mean it's just a much better world than forgotten realms, so much more room to make a great game. Just the stuff when you get to like the 6th lvl as a wiz and have to take the test @ wayreth...c'mon! that would beat anything in shadows hands down. or how bout trying to become a knight of solamnia or a cleric of takhisis? this is major fun i'm talkin here! who do we write to?
PS he is sort of a watered down gandalf. less cool less mystical. Who do we get to blame for Volo? |
I dont know if you could do all the things you suggest, it would lose focus, while it sounds great you cant build that much freedom into a game.

I totally agree and see your point but just a slice of that would make for an awesome gaming experience. i don't know who to write letters to do you?
|
Well Black Isle or Bioware wont be doing it because they lost the wizards of the coast license, so your going to have to go to wizards of the coast themselves who are a bunch of fat moneygrabbing scum these days. I cant think of any other good RPG makers at the moment who could pull it off so it would have to be some up and coming group, when Interplay had the license you could count on a good game, at least back in the times of bg1, but with WotC it would be a hurried cash in so perhaps not a good idea

Probably your best bet for a dragonlance RPG these days is to find a group of people that want to make a high quality dragonlance module for NeverWinter Nights. It won't have the some character class breakdowns and stuff like that but you could build in alot of the atmosphere I am sure. Not only would a game company need the D&D license to make a dragonlance game but I do believe they would need the Dragonlance license as well. I have no idea who even owns that. It could be Wotc it could be Margeret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. Hell it could be General Motors (Heh its weird how some companies own other companies that have nothing to do with that business).

God no! Dragonlance is crappy compared to forgotten realms. Does any one not remember their mages? you have to pick red robes, black robes, or white robes, and stick with that magic. how limited and boring!!!
|
I always liked Dragonlance better than Forgotten Realms, but that is just my opinion. But as for a DL game, it would probably would be doable if you followed the basic model that BG used, somewhat linear with a lot of sidequests. One thing to remember though about DL, I don't remember seeing a lot of higher end creatures in DL besides dragons and npcs. I may be wrong, but..
|
Mhmm, yes, I would certainly love to see a DragonLance crpg...however, i *really* don't think how a game developer would be able to implement it. If the game were to follow the original trilogy, there isn't really much room for an outside 'party' so to speak to go adventuring alongside Tanis, Raist, etc is there? And if the PC were to be one of these characters, well, we'ed already know the story wouldn't we? I love Dragonlance, as a story, it surpasses many others and certainly surpasses Forgotten Realms, IMO on par with great JRR Tolkien (Chronicles & Legends), but I feel DL doesn't have the freedom of FR to allow a crpg to be made. Which is unfortunate. Though dk's suggestion of a NeverWinter Nights mod is, inspiring...
I do however reallyreallyreally would like to see a DL FILM TRILOGY made to the same detail and epic scale as Lord of the Rings is supposedly to be...Please with much sugar on top... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ------------------ Bristowe, Master Assassin "Everyone dies sooner or later, why not sooner?" |
I think Dragonlance is the best role-playing world/story/characters around. In PnP I always love playing Dragonlance (red or black robed wizard of course, taking the test of high sorcery is some of the best role-playing I've ever had the privelege to do.)
It would be incredible if there was a Dragonlance CRPG of the same magnitude and size of BG. But like so many have already stated, no 5th age - that crap sucks. However, I think it would be difficult to set a Dragonlance game in the time of the Chronicles or Legends (which are the best series.) Bioware should get on top of that and make it happen. ------------------ -- trux |
They already did Dragonlance back in the Gold Box. I was not very impressed with it to be honest.
FR has SO much source material, however if I were to pick the next IE setting I would like to see an extended Greyhawk adventure on the same scope as BGI and BG II. Talk about some interesting possibilities.. |
seems to me that tsr are dropping everything now. Mystara,Spelljammer Dark sun and no 3rd edtion dragonlance now, anything that doesnt fit in with forgotten realms. As much as i like the FR, I dont want to be limited to just that.

Well... FR is pretty big, and it is only as limited as one allows it to be. Personally I like FR a lot, and from a game designers perspective I would think having ton's of well done source material makes things pretty nice. I thought the Dragonlance stuff back in the Gold Box days fell way short and kind of sucked. I would rather that they got the class and kit details right and went to a completely different part of the Realms next time around. I thought Spelljammer, Dark Sun, etc kind of sucked. There just was not as much information, and development for those world settings as FR. You could make a completely different game with the IE in the Realms and it could be made to have a completely different feel and story than previous games. I have to agree, also, that the way that they did the Mages in DL kind of sucked. I thought the Red/Grey/Black bit was too constraining. Plus, from a purity standpoint, Dragonlance is not really "D&D" in my book. It is more of a spinoff or affectation within a gaming system that it does not belong in. Yeah the original stories were good, but I will take Forgotten Realms over Dragonlance any day. In fact if an IE game using Dragonlance came out (which it won't) I would more than likely not buy it. Probably because when they tried it in the Gold Box it jaded me against it. [This message has been edited by Unknown Origin (edited 07-16-2001).] |
A Dragonlance game, from the early books would be excellent and make a refreshing change, how long can the BG sequals go on and stay fresh?
|
I've been away and look what i missed!(that's what I get for going to LaX practice) So natch everyone's entitled to their opinion. As far as mine goes there's not really too much joy in FR. DL well DL is lightyears better than FR, the charachters in general are better. The enemies (There were TONS of NPCs! Draconians being the best widespread threat I'd wanna see. Aside from them there were the regular staples of any D&D evil horde, goblins, orcs, minotaurs, etc. etc.Of course there are the dragons!!!! tons to fight aside from NPCs, then there's undead...)
Now to address the "boring" mage nay-sayers hey, how many whites and different blacks and reds were there in BG? How many more would there be if those were the only colors? ya know I think that's not even a sacrifice for all the cool stuff that would come with it all. As far as story...there could be any number of side quests stemming from the chronicles. I'd suggest getting Weis and Hickman to input some ideas, make it fun. And what says it has to be with the same story? Is Icewind dale specifically about the book? are there no surprrises? No I'd say do it like BG...some better known NPC's show up at random moments. I'd say it should happen just after the ledends trilogy ends. Still dragons and dragon higlords and all but still a grey area in which to form a video game. |
