I'm sorry, but I have been reading so many negative statements about anomen, its getting to me. I played with Anomen and he was a great tank character. He's possibly the best cleric in the game (and I include Jaheira in that assessment) and he's also a hell of a fighter. His hit points alone make him tougher than all the other clerics and combine that with his arsenal of defence spells.. the guy rocks. And for those who complain about his conversation, might I add that if you didn't behave badly, he wouldn't moan. Once you get a high rep he stops complaining...

BTW, if Anomen fails his test and goes mental, what specials does he get?

Sigmar 06-25-2001 08:23 AM

The ability to be a greater pain in the ass and to attack random party members. Everything Anomen can do Jahiera can do better.

.
Wrong. He complains and moans when you try to help some poor unfortunate. The stuck up little s**t feels such things are beneath him and THOSE WERE HIS WORDS!!! - you want an example? go help the guy prematurely buried in the Graveyard and listen to his c**p
.
In addition, if the Order does not accept him, the self-popmppous little c*** tries to murder other PCs in the party
.
Anomen makes good chunks though http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Ahh, but when he passes his test he stops complaining 'cos he's a better person. Anyway, my point is still valid, he's a great cleric and fighter. BTW, the only way Jaheira could be better is with magical items, that up her from strength 15 to 18/00. Note how tough Anomen is.... Overall, minus weapons etc, I reckon that Anomen is the better buy...

i have both anomen and jaheira. i think both are great. i keep the party rep between 11 and 14 (mostly because anything higher and minsc just won't stop talking about how proud boo is of us. i love minsc to death, but shouting the same thing non-stop gets a little old.)
we are a good party. we have done the graveyard and all of its quests. the only thing anomen does is remark how well the group is turning out.

lord shield: i am a little surprised. you ruin a man's ambitions, destroy his life and then are surprised when he exacts revenge?

ah well. that's something i find fascinating. we are playing the same game, but
our experiences are radically different.

Anomen gets my vote. There are very few NPC's that have such a good balance between fighting and magical skills, true, Jaheira does have the better clerical magic but she can't fight like he can. Providing you're playing a good party and your rep is high enough he does nothing but express his "pleasure in the way this ill-conceived group is turning out". Allow him to cast holy smite on himself and he can mix it up with the best of them.

DonkeyWan 06-25-2001 09:38 AM

Nahh, prefer blade barrier myself, he can really go to town then. Also, turn undead + sunray in one hit, see those vampires fly etc. Also, very early on Anomen gets skeleton warrior rather than skeletons, as well as getting the ever useful aerial servant. I know Jaheira has summon insect/plague etc. but I still prefer Anomen, he never dies unfortunately on me.

Saying that I am currently playing an evil group, lead by an evil monk, tres amusing...

I do have something that ups her strength to 18/00, and with a +1 Scimitar and with numerous bonus enchantments I yank out courtesy of herself and my lovely mage, she kicks ass. Jaheria gets my vote.

IMO, Anomen is a self righteous, whining, twit. That said, I've kept him in my party since early in Chap. 2 because he has such a good mix of fighting/clerical abilities. Jaheira was a better fighter for me, at least until I equipped Anomen with Crom Faeyr.

Ack, I cut the last part of my post off. Oh, well. Jaheira and Anomen actually complement each other quite well. One is a better fighter and has a samller selection of somewhat more useful spells, but also has less HP. The other has the most hit points of any NPC I've seen, and gets more powerful spells later in the game.

Anomen is way way way better than that *&%!!# Jahiera!!! Once he passes his test he settels down nicely. I have him weild double maces. He has a low dex so I gave him gauntlets of Dex with his armor he is AC-6. He is ++++ in mace and + in two weapon style. I plan to increase these in ToB, when i get it. His THAC0 is 3 and 5 i think. although these are no where near as low as my fighters its getting there and in four or five more levels (in ToB)he will be a very deadly weopon indeed (not saying he is not now) SO LEAVE HIM ALONE! How could anybody in thier right mind pice that %^&#@ Jaheria over Anomen? Remember that &*(%$ Jaheria is a harper and they would love to see you DEAD DEAD DEAD!!! remember?

merc widowmaker 06-25-2001 10:36 AM

I was also once anti Anomen but since I've been playing a lawful good party and had him knited, I have no complaints. He and Keldorn work well together.
My Party:
John the Redeemer (Paladin)
Keldorn
Valygar
Anomen
Nalia
Yoshimo (to be replaced by Imoen)

I usualy played the an evil party using Vicona, Korgan and Edwin, but I have been having a great time with these goodie two shoes !
The two paladins wield T-H-Swords, Helbards and longbows, valygar deulwields katanas, Anomen use flail and shield, and Nalia and Yoshimo/Imoen have got short bows.

My usual tactic is: Valygar hides in shadows and scouts (looking for spellcasters is his primary target, Anomen follows after and tanked up draws the enemie into melee. That leaves the rest of the group armed with bows to either take on the foe from a distance (disrupting spellcasters) or the 2 paladins to close for melle ... Most encounters end before the paladins close http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

And that's a problem? I LOVE butchering harpers - such an easy source of XP http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Besides, we spend a good portion of our life playing silly computer games. Who says we're IN a right state of mind? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Anomen is my second most used NPC after Minsc! Whenever I have a good aligned party, guess who's there? Anomen. My rep is a 17 right now(and Boo is proud!) and I haven't heard Anomen complain since he took his Test.

Alaric 06-25-2001 11:04 PM

Anomen is self-righteous and complains alot but he still is one of my favorite characters. I have him in the front line with my Cavalier. I have him cast Draw Upon Holy Might or Righteous Magic and he becomes one lean mean fighting machine.

Sigmar, I have to disagree with you. There is one thing that Anomen can do that Jaheria could never come close to. Can Jaheria destroy a lich in one round. Well Anomen can. His turn undead ability at higher levels is a great skill to have. We ran into a lich while completing the quests in the Umar Hills and Anomen obliterated the lich with his turn undead ability. Furthermore, when we had to confront Bodhi the second time, he took out a room full of vampire all by himself. Can Jaheria do that, I don't think so.

Don't get me wrong, I think Jaheria is great in her own way. My main character is currently in a romance with her and I enjoy having her in my party but Anomen also has been a great help to my party.
