how do you start the game with your own customized party?
every time i start a new game, the only character i can create is the main character. is it possible to create all 6 characters in your party? and if yes, then how do you do it?

AngelofDeath 06-15-2001 03:42 PM

You need to start a Multi player game, then choose to make all the characters. Let me suggest leaving one or two spots open for NPC's, and their quests.

Cavern Sniffer 06-15-2001 03:43 PM

Select (in this order) Play, Multiplayer, Connect, TCP/IP, then CREATE GAME. Select NEW GAME, then roll/import your characters. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Next time you want to play, do the same but select LOAD GAME.

EDIT:
PS. It is perfectly possible to invite your friends into this kind of game to control a character or two for you if so desired.

is the multiplayer game the same as the single player with all the same quests and maps?

can i play by myself with my own created party in multiplayer?

Melusine 06-15-2001 03:52 PM

Yes, the multiplayer game has the same storyline, but if you leave no room for NPCs you cannot do their quests. If this is the first time you play I strongly suggest that you keep at least three NPC slots open

ok, the multiplayer and single player games are the same. but can you play the multiplayer game by yourself (solo)?

could you do this in Baldur's Gate 1 also?

Cavern Sniffer 06-15-2001 03:58 PM

Yes you can play with six of your own characters but as Melusine said; you won't have any room for NPC's and therefore you will be limited on the XP available to you. Personally I'd only leave two slots max' for NPC's. One for long winded quests and one for the love em'n'leave em quick NPC quests.

rono......
*sighing*
one thing.
you will miss out on wonderful party interaction if you do it that way.
personally, i suggest you play it thru single player first. its the only way you can experience making new friends, getting boyfriends or girlfriends and enjoying all the programmed bells and whistles that make bg2 stand out from all other current rpgs. otherwise, it will be like playing a longer, bit more developed icewind dale.

even the opening sequence, where you pick up 3 of your original teammates is full of interaction that still never fails to entertain me. i don't see why you would want to pass up any of that on your first run through. but if you do, please keep in mind, you are only getting half of a game.

nothing can quite compare to listening to your team as you're traveling: korgan complaining because everyone is a goody two shoes and aerie needs to have her mouth sewn shut. minsc jumping in to defend the honor of his witch. yoshimo and mazzy sparring verbally. or in battle, hearing a heartbroken party member scream in distress when a teammate is killed. setting up camp and hearing aerie's cries during the night, because of her terrible dreams. while walking from town to town, jan starts telling another one of his "true" stories and everyone yelling at the same time "shut up, shut up, shut up!"

sorry. but i am on my 4th play thru and it just isnt the same game as when i do an mp game, as you're suggesting. please! try it as it's written the first time.

Ok in playing the multiplayer to play with your own ppl.. can you bring in the charicter that you have already in the single player game?

------------------
Yeah, Yeah Yeah I know I can't Spell. So don't ask me what I just wrote!!

vesselle 06-15-2001 04:39 PM

balor...
yes. while in the sp game, go to your char record/information page and export your char out. give it a name you will remember.
when you create the mp game, then when you are in the creation screen, you can choose the custom option to import her.

slackerboy 06-15-2001 05:01 PM

here's what i do. i make 2 or 3 people in multiplayer. and start a game. then save it. then close the game. now open your bg2 folder, open the mpsave folder. and find the file for your game. (the name you saved the game as will be part of the file name.) copy this file and paste a copy into your "saved" folder.
now when you play the game. you can pick single player and load your multigame.
this will make it much faster.

hey slackerboy. i'm kind of an idiot so could you please tell me that again but step by step this time.

Cavern Sniffer 06-15-2001 05:09 PM

I would recommend playing as a single player first time too.

As for exporting your single player out and then importing him/her into a multi party you must remember that he/she may be of a much higher level than your other members and you may need to adjust the characters stat's to bring him/her into line.

Yep Multiplayer is great, but I agree with everyone else. The first time through the game, you should play as the staff designed the game, for a solo player with NPC additions.
There are alot of character interactions and quests that go on, which you will miss out on with multiplay mode. The staff designed the game so that you as a solo player will have In-game NPC characters with you, interacting with them, romances, fights, and alot more.
If you haven't played at least one time through already, play through with your Solo player, then if you want to play through again (which you will) then you can bring in a Multiplayer party of your own.

One of the funniest dialogues so far Ive seen is between Jen the evil illusionist/thief and Anomen (?) the good fighter/cleric. Jen likes to irritate everyone, the funny little gnome. So he tells this story of a dumb orc, who happens to be named Ano (get it, Anomen?). This dumb ork finds in the woods a knight and a giant fighting, the knight wins. After the battle the orc takes the giants head back to his camp and says that he killed it.
The giants brother hunts down the orc, takes him back to HIS home, ties a porcupine to his head, and uses him as a toilet cleaner. And the funny part was that Ano the orc seems to have liked it.
Of course, this really irritates the good Sir Anomen the cleric LOL.

THATS the kinda of fun stuff you miss out on with multiplayer mode.
