Your opinion, Don't say something which has the best stats, choose somthing you found hard to kill!

(At one point) Adamantine Golem.

demus 06-02-2001 09:31 AM

Hardest enemy to kill, hmm, I don't know, probably the silver dragon (Red (firkagg)was fairly easy as I had an immunity to fire, shadow was easy as I had immunity to level drain (my main character was a undead hunter http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif ) and the black dragon was quite hard, but I had lots of very high level spells by then).
Adamantium Golems are quite hard, but get stuck in small spaces really easily http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif .
Also, I found groups of medium strength enemies in small spaces quite hard (like enemy groups in small room etc) especially when the room has no exit except for an auto-save door and the creatures won't follow you http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif .
And finaly I found the silver sword blade Githyanki and group quite hard (even with Immunity to +1 weapons or less on my main character, as they targeted the rest of my party who got mashed http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ).

The hardest monster to DEFEAT is of course Kangaxx the Lich (my cousin)

The hardest monster in terms of SUBSTANCE and density, is of course - an adamantine golem.

All liches are quite hard. Especially the battle in the twisted rune!
Dragons are easy...because their spells are terrible!
The demi-lich was easy it didn't use any other symbol or time stop spells.
I found the high-level Rakshasas outside in Suldnesselar's Temple VERY HARD.

boran_blok 06-02-2001 11:58 AM

Well ehm I have to say that the toughest enemy I ever had to kill was a bear in BG1, I had only a sword .. and no-one else (playing solo BG1) THAT was hard... more playing lottery than a fight .. if he hit me once I was dead .. so I had to rely that his attack rolls would be bad and mine good (I play at Core rules setting so no cheating there)

Anyone remember Kobold Commandos in that halfling village?

They were "sooooooooooooo" hard back then. And your first wizard in the friendly arm inn when you only had 6 HPhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif (I'm embarrassed - An Arch Lich struggling against a pack of koboldshttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/FRblush.gif )

Kangaxx. Took me 20 reloads to kill him at core difficulty (keep in mind this was back in early October when there were NO strategies available in boards anywhere).

Other tough ones would be the fight at the Den of Seven Vales immediately after getting past Ch1, the Twisted Rune, the mindflayer lair and the adventurers in the sewers (also in Ch2).

Thats funny how everyone found those adventurers in the sewers hard!
I thrashed them, Just cast insect plauge on them, then your laughing.
yeah the mindflayer layers hard. I didn't know about the chaotic commands spell than so it was really difficult.

Uhg, those lousy mindflayers. I'm in Ch. 3 right now, and i just beat them yesterday. I had tried in a previous game, but i ended up not likeing my main character too much. So i'm playing a mage/theif now. Myself and mazzy tore up the mind flayers in the sewer by ourselves almost. It was a matter of setting traps, opening doors, and running http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif then mazzy launched some phantom arrows into them. But the theif traps worked wonders. three traps in a hallway filled with mind flayers, run, close the door and watch the damage rack up. Also, it seems you can rest and get more traps to set while the other traps are still deployed. Mad insane damage to the beasties!

1.Mindflayers - brain suckers,'nough said.
2.Red dragon - takes a 6 on 1 attack to defeat, resurrection handy in mid fight.
3.Svirfniblin Demon - stun stun stun.
4.Irenicus on Tree - 6 on 1 yet still tough.
5.1st Dwarf in Inn -stubborn, 2nd highest hp creature in game after Sarevok, super st as dwarf, great ac.

RUNNERUPS-all dragons, adventuring parties, unmber hulk groups,& rakashas.

SSJ4Sephiroth 06-02-2001 09:07 PM

Illithids (mind flayers). these guys are just cheap! they target my fighters w/ their psionic blasts, they fail their saving throws (as usual), then get killed in 2 hits that can apparantly do about a hundred damage! its just not fair! Kangaxx may be cheap, but a spell can counter his cheapness! there is no counter for the psionic blast (that i know of)!

Ravana 06-02-2001 09:31 PM

Kangaxx was a tough fight, my pc kept getting imprisoned-until I let Minsc loose his berserker wrath with the warblade.
I hated those mindflayers, until in desperaton I actually looked at some of my spells lol and found chaotic command.
Irenicus in that tree was a toughie, as was Firkraag and those damn adventurers in the Den of Seven Vales. Those Maharajas outside the temple in suldanssar were also a good fight, as were the demon knights in the underdark.

Ravana 06-02-2001 09:32 PM

Oh yeah, and any roving band of thugs a.k.a Adamantite Golems.

Cavern Sniffer 06-02-2001 09:36 PM

Nice site. The kua tao guys were tough I thought. the prince and his men.

Sephiroth, chaotic commands will protect against psionic blast. Nothing will protect against psychic drain (that is when their tentacles burrow under the skin of your face, go into your nostrils, and suck your brain out. Each hit will take 4 pts of intelligence, so when you get down to zero you're dead. You can delay it by drinking potions of genius to give you 25 intelligence, that will allow you to withstand 6 hits.

hmmm, never thot of using CC before... thanx. ill keep that in mind to save on summoning space

Bristowe 06-03-2001 02:53 AM

Those five demon knight in the Kuo toa underdark place were tough, i was only expecting one when suddenly there was five...screwed me up pretty bad, they caught me off guard as they sort of surround you when they appear, low THAC0 and their high AC PLUS their magic...geez, they lvl drain too, the bastards...

MM admantium golem i didn't find hard, just had everyone attack it at once with magical weapons and he went down fast. Having just 2 fighters do it takes more time, he only attacks one at a time, so my 6 guys whacking take them down pretty quick.
Red dragon and shadow dragon were easy. They don't do anything until you attack, you can prepare up the wazoo and kill them quick. White dragon is the same way. Green in hell is a little harder, but not too bad if you have distance attacks (you'll see when you get there. Black was the hardest of the dragons.
Beholders i didn't have trouble with, i had a plan on how to handle those. I will have to say the mindflayers were the thoughest. My area spells didn't work well (they are magic resistant) and getting in close with your low INT fighters is kinda dangerous. Very tough opponents. A great place to use summoned creatures.
Liches were extremely tough for me until I learned how to deal with them, now they fall like flies. Vampires were nothing, my Undead Hunter Paladin Mowed them down. Drow, please. Kuo-toans, nothing. mmm
Kangaxx. yea pretty tough one there.
Irenicus, pantsy. In the tree battle I yawned and sat back throwing summoned creatures at him. He doesn't even chase you. I wasted all my summons, then waited a few minutes. Sat back out of sight range, then prepared and made a full attack. He fell in seconds.
The last battle was easy also with a couple timestops and summoned creatures to act as cannon fodder. Chain contingency to summon 3 groups of creatures once enemy sighted, then kept summoning as they died. At that poing level 17 Paladin with avenger and bezerker/cleric with GM warhammer with Crom Feyr took them down easy. Mindflayers were harder than the demons.
SO in my eyes, the Mindflayers gave me the most trouble.

I heard that! You really should have had a bow! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif And the magic user, Teshron or something at The Friendly arm, you had to hope your rolls were good and you whacked him befor he got off "Horror".

Lifetime 06-03-2001 04:14 AM

The first time I faced vampires, they were really hard. I cleared out Bodhi's lair with Drizzt and I still had to reload countless times.
And beholders..damn..I still dont know a good strategy to kill them without resorting to cheap tactics.

Why?

That mountain bear in bg1 talk about a tough fight.

I find anyone that uses cheatstop, er, timestop to be difficult. They usually follow that up with Abi Dalzim's and/or Meteor Swarm. If you're not ready for it (protection from magic energy), it hurts bad.
