Wanted to throw up a question to see whats the most damage you have ever done with backstabbing.
I myself have done 106 damage with a backstab, this was with a basic thief using a shortsword +3, with a little strength bonus x5 backstab damage.

Heres the drift, I know I did alot, but my thief wasn't maxxed out for backstabbing Im going to try and get one that is and see what damage I can do.

My Kensai/Thief could backstab for around 210 w/ Celestial Fury. She had 19 str (tomes from bg1) and grand mastery in Katanas. A Kensai/anything is too damned powerful.

May sound like a stupid question, but how DOES one backstab????

You hide in shadow, you walk behind your victim, you click the attack icon (if victim in non hostile) and point the cursor at the victim and click.
If you are kensai/thief, you do kai before hiding in shadow. You should have good numbers in hide in shadow and move silently. Normally my kensai/thief can do 120 +, with kai, it goes as high as 200 +.

Any thief NPC has the potential to be able to backstab, e.g. Jan, Yoshimo, Imoen, and Nalia.

u are not siposed to backstab with katanas are u?

can you backstab with any weapon or does it have to be a thief-allowable weapon like a short sword or dagger? if you were dualed fighter/thief, for instance, could you backstab with crom fraer (sp?) ? thanks...

Any combination of the thief class can only backstab with short swords, long swords, katanas, & daggers (I think). I read somewhere on this board that someone was able to with a club, but I've never tried that. My solo F/M/T usually does 100-150 backstabbing with celestial fury, x5 damage with 21 strength (girdle of something or other).

Well I want someone to test this out for me to see what the thief does.

Someone with a Kensai/thief, grandmaster in longsword.

Take Daystar (double vs undead), Drink potion of storm strength, Kai, and then go backstab a undead (even just a skeleton), and see what you are doing. I want to see the limits you can do with the weapons that do double damage to undead <grin>
