I'm planning going solo with a Paladin (or some else class)... but im not sure which type. Can anyone help me choose? What is a good class to go solo with? Thanks in advance!
Also i need help from those who have done it before, got any tips for me? |
all of the kits are fairly good and have useful immunities that will be very valuable in a solo game.
however, paladin is one of the harder classes to solo with as they cannot compete with spellcasters in terms of sheer power at any given moment and can´t use stealth to pick their own battles. imo the easiest class to solo with is the sorcerer, but bounty hunter/mage, kensai/mage and ranger/clerics are also very strong contenders. |
I dont really like multi/dual classed characters, and i've just played trough BG2 & ToB with a sorcerer, so i would like to play some sort of fighter... are Swashbucklers (did i spell it right?) good as solo characters? And i would like to wield Carsomyr. :D

Soloing a cavalier is very entertaining, and pretty easy..
They get immune to practically everything, and are very powerful. If you would like more challenge than that, go for Undead Hunter ;) |
There are many good classes to solo with, so its hard to choose one spesific. But if you want a paladin, I suggest the Cavalier. He is practicly immune to everything, like poison etc. And he deals much damage on dragonic and demonic baddies.
AN ABILITY SPOILER AHEAD * * * * * * * * But just remember, that in ToB, bards and thieves can learn an ability so that they can wield every item, along with the Carsomyr. see ya! |
Soloing a Cavalier is certainly doable, but not for the faint of hearted and impatient.
I soloed a Cavalier on Core difficulty( Insane for the last 2 ToB bosses) and I consider it my proudest achievement to date. |
Dundee, I am soloing as a cavalier and i am wondering at what level you took on firkraag. I am currently at about lvl. 12

Firkragg likes to casts Dispel Magic, but it affects him as well, and removes his Stoneskin... ... |
Yeah, the Cavalier is the best overall, but you could also choose the cleric because they aren't bad fighter and are good spellcasters and the Archer is good too.
|
So far i would have to say that a cavalier is the best to solo with (need a good shield tho), So far i have a lvl 31 cavalier in the underdark and i havent even started Watchers Keep from ToB yet
btw, does anyone solo with a shapeshifter druid? Is this a good class? |
Yeah, i have decided to solo a priest of helm, i've just killed those adventurers in Den of Seven Vales on the 2nd floor... It was a difficult fight. Thanks to 'Holy Power' and 'seeking sword' i managed to kill them...

why do people alter the difficulty? at core diffucalty its a 'by the rules game' all other levels are altering the rules in effect!
|
In my humble opinion a Sorcerer or some kind of Thief will provide you with the most fun. A multi-class gnome Illusionist/Thief will be loads of fun, too.

I started soloing with a shapeshifter - they need high strength and dex and con as well as charisma. I gave up because i have a horrible tendency to give up and start again.

IMO a solo Cleric/Mage is a pretty good class (or maybe it's too easy). The choice of weapons is a bit limited, but that didnt stop me clearing out Nalia's castle including golems in less than a day - slept just before it and finished with about 5 spare cleric spells.
Didnt even need to drink any healing potions ;) (Started it on lvl 14/13, finished on 15/14) |
I'm still new to the whole solo idea here. Mind telling me how this works? I'm barely making it thru the regular campaigne with all the npc help. When you solo, do you need to finish certain quests to progress thru the story? How can one pick off packs of monsters and enemies safely? Can you sort of zone out to safety when it gets bad?
Do you simply start up a multiplayer game and create one character and start from there? I play on core since I believe that's the only way to go. Mages seem to be really great in handling the most diverse of situations. Thanks for any info. PeeWee *ogre rogue gone wrong* |

It does take more skill, especially if you are playing a more limited class like a wizard slayer or something. However there are advantages too since you level up much quicker so have more options (eg spells), and if you have ToB installed, high level abilities come really early. It's exactly the same as a normal game, do any sub-quests you want, just do them alone ;) |
Ok i have another question here. I am soloing as a cavalier and I have a THACO of -8. I t still takes me 3 or 4 swings to even hit a goblin sometimes. Why is that?
|
Could someone explain to me how experience points are given to the characters? are they divided evenly between everyone?

Yes the XP are divided evenly between the characters.
hitting a gobbo with a thaco of -8 should be pretty easy. however, remember that not every graphical swing is an attack. the characters swing swords etc to make the combat look more exciting, you can see the actual attack in the text-windows if you go into feedback and turn on the option to show dice rolls. if your actualy taking 4/5 attacks to hit a gobbo then somethings wrong. |

Thank you very much. That explains why my carysomr +5 is swing through the air 4 times but only hitting once |
