What is the mightier? Steel or Spell?
I prefer the mage myself.Others may differ.I've Never seen a Paladin or a Fighter do anytihng to prevent damage to himself or launch objectiles at the foe iwtohut need of a crossbow or composite bow. Whereas the sword deals mightier blows with the sword in close combat. So email me or something and give me your opinion!

I would say the mage is most useful as you can kit one up with pleant of items to make them an effective hand to hand figter but you cant make a fighter cast spells (as far as I know).

Lock a first level fighter and a first level mage in a telephone booth and there is no question the fighter will be the one to emerge alive.

If you use 20th level characters staring 100 yards apart the mage probably has an advantage.

It is the old infantry vs artillary question. Niether is better, both have their place.

In close combat a mage would get smoked. At 100 feet those Fireballs would fry a fighter to a crackly crunch. As any party goes no mage can survive long without fighters for close (and i mean close) support. Mages dont have the strength to do much damage in melee and a 10d6 fireball does alot more damage than a heavy crossbow at a distance

Right on Sherpa!!!!!

I play as fighter/mage
So can say steel and spell are same

ShadowUK 05-17-2001 02:09 PM

I think a fighter with good magic resistance is better but a mage is probably more fun.......

My monk at level 21 with a necklace and both Gaxx rings has 95% resistance to Magic. While I agree that both are important, very few mages are going to last long against her one on one, especially since I sided with the King in the underwater city, and got the Gauntlets of Crushing.

Just my 2 coppers, sorry for the run-on sentence.

Melee types do the bulk of the dirty work in my groups. Towards the end of the game, my fighters always have a ton more kills than my mages.

However, it is the mages who make the difference in the hard battles.

Tom 05-17-2001 09:09 PM

Heh, Id have to say a mage.

I played as a sorcerer like this:

Girlde of (insert word here) and got him about 19 str.
Boots of speed.
Stiletto of Demarchh2+ dagger in offhand
Mefs meteor in regular hand,

He was my TANK! I mean, the only spell he used was mefs metero whatever it is called. He http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/img195.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/gore.gif those enemies arses.

Typically, it is a mage with magic and steel(dagger), but I prefer a mage over a warrior/barbarian anyday.

I considered him a left http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Coffee anyone?

Fighter attacks Sorcerer with tons of faster cast spell items, Sorcerer makes Mordenkainens Sword's, Fighter is now a pile of dead meat.

Tom 05-17-2001 09:13 PM

OH YEAH!

Mordenkainen should be a lvl 8 spell man!

I saved my a$$ during chapter 7!

Glycerine 05-17-2001 09:59 PM

I would have to say Magic is probably the most powerful. Some of those high level spells are just ridiculously powerful.

A high level fighter class is a mighty opponent...but they just don't stand up to high level wizards.

If they take my gun can I still use my Claymore?

Pennance 05-18-2001 01:07 AM

What use is magic or steel if the blade comes from behind? A well-placed dagger in the spinal cord or vial of poison in a goblet can make the hardiest warrior to the fiercest mage a corpse. But if I must...

Steel all the way!
