THE QUEST FOR GARRENS CHILD:
CAN KILL ALL THE DREADWOLF THINGS AND 2 GREATERWOLFWERES BUT THE 3RD TAKES INFINITE DAMAGE. EVEN THOUGH IT TAKES LOADS OF HITS FROM MAGIC WEAPONS MAGIC AND SUMMONED CREATURES IT STILL SHOWS UNINJURED.

Dreamer128 05-15-2001 09:05 AM

Welcome to the board Albert.
I´ve heard you´re problem several times before though im not sure wheter it was a bug or not, how magical are you´re magic weapons?

EINSTEIN 05-15-2001 09:20 AM

staff of rhynn+4 which should hit anything.
I'd need to go back to town to get the sword +3 vs shapeshifters but i suspect it won't make a difference.
I could pixie dust the party and walk round it I suppose but I'd really like to know a permanent fix. Would it be worth reinstalling?

Lord Shield 05-15-2001 09:22 AM

They do die, but they regenerate very quickly. You need to do wnough damage to kill them in ONE round. Try disintegrate/Petrification spells and suchlike

EINSTEIN 05-15-2001 09:34 AM

I'd have thought 5 fire elementals 2 lightning bolts 6 magic arrows and a flamestrike would have done it (showed uninjured at end of round) but I'll give the disintegrate strategy another go.
Already tried it with my sorceror. Saved against 5 disintegrates in a row then it ate my party. Something made me watch...Im not sure what it was.
A resilient sphere would also be a means of circumventing it.

Gray Mage 05-15-2001 09:43 AM

I tried fighting that thing too, about 4 reloads, untill I tried this: What worked for me was I paused the game, after I was obliterated, as I walked into the cave. I had my magic users, clerics, archers target the person, then unpaused. After the dialogue the thing died in about three seconds.

Fighters hit more often than elementals - haste them, boiost their Strength and wade in

Avatar 05-15-2001 09:54 AM

I had this problem:
despite there are 3 of them only one is the hard one!!!
I had 2x fire elementals
2x Arial Servants
1x something else
lure one at a time!!!! Have everyone on melee only +4 can hurt them. They have 100% mag resist! One of the toughest battles in entire BG2 I think!!!!

Pennance 05-15-2001 09:57 AM

I had the same problem. Originally when I went through that cave they were just Werewolves, then the second time I played the game (started over as another class) they were Greater Werewolves. I wish I still had my DnD manuals so I could tll you the stats on those beasts, but I will say they regenerate like nobody's business. Your best bet is to buff your guys up as much as possible, with Haste being the primary spell. Your offensive spells won't work on Greater Werewolves, but try using web or sleep cloud to slow them down so you only fight several at a time. It may take afew tries, but you'll get it.

I think that you have to have a weapon designed to destroy shapeshifters in order to hit them. However, you can poison them with Arrows/Bolts of biting and then run away... That's what I did. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

.
You need magical weapons (about +2 or greater I think) - just poewr everybody up and have all tanks focus on the one creature while mages blast the bugger. everyone should be hasted

dafan 05-15-2001 02:05 PM

I had problems with thoose beast the first time I tried em but after that I never have had... maybe cause I was better equiped theother times

Hey EINSTEIN, u wait till u get to doing them on solo, hehe. I don't really play the game any more but IIRC the only way I could kill them solo was if I had a spellcaster or if I had the silver sword.
A few things, here are the stats:
Greater Wolfwere:

66 HP
Base AC = 2 (+19 dex = -2 AC)
base THACO = 6 (+19 STR = 3)
3 attacks, not bad.
Using the level 9 spell shapechange u can become one. This is the easiest way to kill the Twisted tune bitches, hehe.

STR 19
DEX 19
CON 16
INT 17 blah blah

They are level 11
saving throw vs. spells: 5
and vs. death: 7

IIRC they regenerate about 6 HP per sec. Which means 36 out of their 66 HP per round. So if u do less than 36 damage in a round they will be Uninjured by the next round. Yeah if u have a party, 66 damage in 1 round shouldn't be a problem. However, soloing them is hard!

They only have 50% magic resistance and have 50% resistance to all elemental damage.

Gargoyle 05-15-2001 11:39 PM

I remember the section you gyz are on about and I can't remember having any problems, although when I fight these types of creatures I always use weapons strong against shapeshifters, BG1 proved this is the best method !

I thought it was the greater wolfweres that regenerate fast not the greater werewolves.

WOLFGIR 05-16-2001 04:23 AM

HAHAHAHA!!!

Me brothers of dark are tough foes hehehe..

oups sorry http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Well a trick is to hit them and hit them hard, take out one at a time, start with cloudkill over the area you are to fight them in (takes care of the regenerating thingie..) Hit them with arrows of biting/fire/frost, have weapons of at least a +3 capability and also with some extra different damage types will do good. make sure to hasten your fighter, the key is to pound on as hard and as fast as possible to kill them before the regeneration kicks in...

So Bahamuts way, overkill is the way..
Or disintegrate http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

(Only wished the wolves and wolverines in Norway was this tough to kill!!!)
