Well, as i'm reading all the topics here, i'm kinda worrying about my group.. I know i made the big mistake to take a multiclass character (at least my friends think it's a big mistake), but i need some advice about the rest of my party:

My group:
Link (me): fighter/thief/mage
Aerie : cleric/ mage
Minsc : ranger
Jaheira (think about losing her, and get Mazzy)
Jan : thief/illusionist
Yoshimo (lose him as well and get Haer Dalis)

All the stuff about Keldorn made me a little unsure about whether or not to take him with me instead of someone, so i definitely need some advice here.

Link, huh . . .Zelda fan? Anyways, don't worry about not having one npc or another. All the NPCs work well in one combo or another. First question is what is your alignment? Certain NPCs work better with certain alignments. Also, not a BIG thing to multiclass, just makes it a reaaaaaaaaaaaalllllll long time to level up. Your choice. Are you going for a most mage party? You also seem to be collecting thieves. I like a balanced party, so I would keep Jaheria. Good spells, gives you access to the higher level druid spells, plus you are gonna want her blunt weapon skills. Keep Yoshimo. Great Katana, excellent traps, plus he makes the storyline interesting. . . if you HAVE to have Keldorn, think about who is in your party magic wise, healing wise, and fighter wise. Keep Boo. Much to fun, especially with a certain sword you will find. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Hopefully this helps. Remember, you are the one playing. No way is wrong, some just more interesting to play. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

It could work. Try it. But playing with Haer Dalis could be hard. Maybe you'll need a stronger fighter than Mazy.

Link,

Think about keeping Jaheira if it is your first time through. She can summon fire elementals early in the game. Fire elementals rock! Do you plan on romancing anyone? Two of you current party members are options and one of them gives you a big subquest.

Just take a party you like and that goes with you´re aligment.

Link 05-15-2001 08:39 AM

Yeah thanks. Problem is that Jan is far better in setting traps than Yoshimo....Another thing is that Yoshimo has been tossed out of the group before, and thus lost all (didn't know that would happen) abilities (now only 2 trap, instead of 6).. And as for Gimlee: I though Mazzy was one of the strongest fighters??? Korgan = better???
So the group should be:
Link
Keldorn (dunno about that)
Aerie
Mazzy
Jan
Minsc
Haer Dalis is out of the question? And what do you think about Korgan or Edwin???

I know about the Fire Elementals.. But Jaheira makes you miss 150.000 XP!!!!!

I am not an expert, but I do have Korgan in my party. He has turned out to be a great batterer and overall killer dude. He has a bit of a nasty attitude toward Jaheria, but then I think she is a bit stuffy too. My party is a balance of good/evil - with myself (chaotic good), Minsc, Jaheria,Edwin, Korgan and Jan.

Pennance 05-15-2001 10:06 AM

My strategy for party assembly is to get a decent combo or Ranged/Melee attackers and Spellcasters/Healers. My party currently stands as such...

Pennance (me): Fighter/Mage
Minsc & Boo: Ranger & Hampster
Viconia: Cleric (Only single classed Cleric in the game)
Valygar: Ranger (Was Archer, but with Celestial Fury is now a Melee fighter)
Yoshimo: Thief (Detect/Remove Trap is essential)
Aerie: Mage/Cleric (Walking medkit and Fireball tosser)

Keep a balanced party and you should be fine. Try and get 3-4 Melee attackers and 2-3 Ranged attackers. You'll probably want to keep Aerie because later in the game spells like Breach are essential and as a Fighter/Mage/Thief I'm not sure if you'll be able to get it. Jaheira is also important early on because of her Fire Elemental summoning spell, but can be ditched later on. I also try and keep 2 Healers. The key, though, is to keep it balanced. Hope that helps.

Link 05-15-2001 10:20 AM

Pennance: i suggest you try the skills of Jan.. he's far better than Yoshimo in detecting/removing traps.. It will depend on how long u have Yoshimo however.. As for my character Link: he has a level 8 (not sure) spell Summon Air Elemental, so he might compete with Jaheira's Fire Elementals, but I'm not sure about that... Can anybody tell me who's better; Korgan or Mazzy?

I've played through with Jaheria and without her, if anything you gain experience from her harper quests, you don't lose any experience that i can think off.

Korgan is the better fighter but considering your parrty...take Mazzy... cause a little bit into the game you will have to choose between korgan and Aerie and it will feel like just waisting to have to get rid of someone

Yeah, they are the best, but if he wants to play a good team, he would be better with someone else.

That is why you play through the game twice... take one good path and one evil path. Since you're leaning good, take mazzy, I did on my good path and was VERY impressed. Not necessarily because she is a great fighter, but with a bow she completely dominated all my other party members except my Cavalier on percentage of kills and damage. Plus, she has several paladin abilities (strength, lay hands, haste!) that she can use innately. I believe I had her with the speed bow shooting 5 times a round with a low thac0. I think with Minsc & Jahiera you have enough melee fighters... with more than two they tend to spend time running over one another. Mazzy is also great to have as a back guard so incase you get attacked from behind she can function nicely to take damage.

Plus she has the coolest haircut.

Gargoyle 05-15-2001 08:17 PM

Your too magic strong, which is why you need Keldorn.
Keep Aerie, Jaheira and Jan, drop Minsc for keldorn and forget about Haer Dalia and instead take Mazzy >>

WOLFGIR 05-16-2001 04:30 AM

Well i wouldn´t loose jaheira, she is way to cute http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif and she has alot of snappy replies I like http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif. She is also useful since she is a fighter/druid she can block opponents and cast some really useful spells and heal, and dish out some damage at the same time.

mazzy is really good with bow, but Keldorn getting his hands on the Holy Avenger.. my oh my http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I would personally not drop any one ritght now, instead try them all out and see how it goes. You can always start a new game and try different combos. This is the fun part!

You multiclassing.. Hmm depends i would say, If you take on some quests with fewer persons, you will get a heck of more XP´s.. but well.. Could still be tough since you have three classes. Takes some time...

Yeah people: thanks! Here are some answers:

- Jaheira losing XP: this friend told me she'd be stuck at Druid level 13, and wouldn't get any higher: that makes you lose (he overexaggerated 150.000) a lot of (he thought 50.000) XP.
- Not an elf: half elf.
Just one more question: Minsc is pretty strong now, and his Berserker rage is pretty good. I might consider just getting rid of Yoshimo (he sucks big time right now, cos i kicked him out earlier on) and get Keldorn ( i know where he's located). Minsc (has some pretty good items, like that talking sword [dunno it's name], that axe +4 vs. undead, and axe stonefire) and Keldorn are two pretty good fighters, Link (has sword of flames) can fight as well. Then i have Jan and myself as thieves, and Jaheira (also fighter) and Aerie (and Link) as mages/clerics/druids. That would give me a pretty good team i guess.

BTW: Do u know about the Ankheg shell thing?? Cromwell can forge it in a pretty useful armor; armor class 1 and only 8 strength required to wear!!!!!!

I think Wolfgir's suggestion to reduce the party to 5 is a good one. It will take you a long time to level up. With 5, it will be much easier.

I wouldn't worry too much about lost experience. That won't happen for a long time and you really won't notice it by that time in the game.

If it were me, I'd pick up a tank. Mazzy would be a great addition. You are talking about dropping Yoshimo anyway, so I'd drop him. Then look to see what you want to do. If you plan on doing the thieving, drop Jan since your abilities are pretty much the same as his. Jan is great for dialogue though.

You also might consider losing Aerie. You'd have two mages with yourself and Jan. Jaheira can do most of the healing, and I believe (going on a hunch here) that Minsc will be able to read healing scrolls (having that Druid/Ranger/Cleric sort of thing going for him).
