The *real* icingdeath scimitar would definately do quite a bit of damage if not kill Firkraag altogether. If you recall, that scimitar basically banished Errtu all by itself. This in mind, Drizzt all the way. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/drizzt.gif

yeah but firkraag would just fly out drizzts reach, and his breath waeapon useabl every 3/rounds with his lower fire reisistece would kill drizzt. And firkraag being a powerful dragon would have loads of followers like wizards to lower drizzts magic resistences etc.

Only one problem to that theory - Drizzt is a HERO. Firkraag is a VILLAIN. Drizzt's going to kick his butt no problem in some book or other.

Who knows in 3rd Edition they might kill off a few Heros

We can only hope so. They outnumber the villains otherwise

Memnoch 05-06-2001 03:15 AM

Just to clarify - are you talking about PnP or CRPG here?

Because in PnP Firkraag, being an ancient red, would kick ass all all over Drizzt if it was one-on-one.

In 3rd edition he can have all those kick stealth skills to run away. He managed to evade a more powerful red dragon then firkrag and now that he has icing death he could sneak up on and lay the smack down on any red dragon. Besides firkrag only had 1 wizard and he was a wimp and if firkrag killed drizzt then malchor harpell would be after him and he would commit suicide to get away from that annoying bastard.

I thought firkrag was only a adult dragon? all descriptions of ancient reds I have seen give a more powerful impression then firkrag.

Icingdeath grants TOTAL immunity to fire. Even Demon fire! Remember Errtu? An ancient red couldn't touch Drizzt with his breath weapon. However, if luck were against our hero, that damn dragon claw is about 3-5 feet long.....

hmm yeah bruenor has survived a trip down fire land into a chasm with icingdeath riding a shadow dragon hasnt he? so whats to stop drizzt doing the same with a red dragon cept he also has trust defender not to mention guenhwyver shall i go on?

250 05-06-2001 01:11 PM

it is pointless to determine who wins. whoever writes the book decides who killes whom, got it?

Dreamer128 05-06-2001 02:03 PM

I hate series where the good guys never lose no mater how tough the enemy is, they should just die like ordenary people.

Dreamer128 05-06-2001 02:06 PM

What is the big difference between red and black dragons?
And what about gold and silver.

Gimmick 05-06-2001 07:50 PM

In a game like BG, my money would be on Drizzt as all of the advantages of being a red dragon a negated by insufficient AI.

In a more realistic situation, where the dragon is intelligent and a will to live, mobility and reach will win it every time for the dragon.

I think its pretty discrimenating by the way that the colour in wich you are born determans wheter you´re good or evil, its kinda like the sixties when they told the black people they were inferieur to the white just because their skin had a different colour.

Yea and the black dragons being oppressed by the silver and gold dragons must be a symbol of racism! and gary gygax must think midgets are only good for working in the forge because of the description of dwarves in d&d!.......its just a GAME.

*sigh* i dont know if this is true of Faerun as well but in Krynn Metallic Dragons are considered good because of the god who created them and chaotic are considered bad becos of the same reason.
so good: gold, silver, bronze, brass, copper

and evil: red, blue, green, black and white

Halbred 05-06-2001 10:53 PM

Lest we forget about the "dark" skinned drow that everyone hates... i agree, though parallels can be drawn to real life society, it is, though we hate to admit it, JUST A GAME.

(YELLS IN BACKROUND) "SAY IT AIN"T SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Leodrish 05-07-2001 11:15 AM

Yeah, and the Drow are ruled by females, what does that say about things?

Dreamer128 05-07-2001 11:18 AM

personally, i prefer Drow over normal Elves.
I find elves really anoying and arrogant.

Draggor 05-07-2001 12:00 PM

Drizzt would win. He's fought a lot of powerful creatures before. Remeber drizzt is also very intelligent as well as the most skilled fighter in faerun. Firrkraag is arrogant which would be his undoing. Drizzts anklets of speed would probably keep him out of reach of firrkraags claws and Drizzt would have Guenwyvar to distract the big red. Firrkraag is probablt just a fairly young red as a) he lives near civilization and interacts with mortals
b) he hasn't been spending all his time sleeping
c) he hasn't got much of a treasure horde
d) he probably hasn't done much or more people besides Gorion would have gone after him considering how close to civilization he is.

.
In order of increasing toughness ,we have:
.
Chromatic Dragons (evil)
WHITE - frost breath
BLACK - acid breath
BLUE - lightning breath
GREEN - gas breath
RED - fire breath
.
Metallic dragons (good) are tougher, but are:
BRASS - line of fire or SLEEP gas
COPPER - line of acid or SLOW
BRONZE - lightning or REPULSION
SILVER - cone of frost or PARALYSIS
GOLD - fire AND gas breath weapons (weaken in 3E)
.
As for sneaking past them, forget it - they have 50 zillion senses in 3E. They can even track a stolen gold piece for miles and miles
