When I played bgI I had each character have the proficiencies I wanted. Unfortunately, in BGII all of that was changed. What I want to know is it cheating for me to make the characters have different proficiencies other than what they started off with at the beginning of the game. Also, I am not going over the limits each class has, just moving the stars around to different choices.

It is cheating. Real RPG is living with your mistakes.

Accord 05-03-2001 06:56 PM

Just do whatever needs to be done to keep the fun factor there.

Gimlee, what mistakes are you talking about? The programmers of the game gave those profs to the characters, not me, they are far from perfect as well.

Don't ask other people if they think that you're cheating or not. First of all, you're ALWAYS going to get mixed responses. Second, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Just do what you have to to make the game enjoyable to you and you alone. If giving all your characters stats of 25 makes you happy, then by all means go ahead and do it.

well me personnaly yes i think its cheating but if you dont then you dont.do what you want

Cheating to one may be fixing to another. Certainly if the programmers didn't do something they were supposed to or did something they weren't and you know how to fix it, then I think you not only should, but HAVE to.

Grand-Ranger: YOU are cheating by not fixing it because it is a programmer's error and according to the actual AD&D2 rules, YOU are playing wrong.
Does this make it a bad thing? NO!

If the programmer's knew that everything was perfect, they would have written the program so it is unchangable (encrypted or something). Then, for those of us who LIKE "cheating" (I call it being a DM and making my own calls) they would have made JUST the built in cheat ( CLUAConsole: ).

well, if we COULD PLEASE get back to the subject, i would like to say that i dont think its cheating. however, if u start the game, THEN change proficency points later on (i.e., u were gonna be a scimitar user, but saw how much more powerful Katanas were, and u changed the prof) thats cheating. but if u had a blunt weapon prof and changed it to scimitar, that wouldnt be cheating per se, merely bending the rules. theres a fine line between bending the rules and cheating. dont even get me STARTED on the exp. cap debate...

Tancred 05-05-2001 07:19 PM

We have a saying in the Wargames trade... if you're asking other people for justification, hell... it MUST be cheating. Mind you, that's when there's another player to worry about.
