Can someone give me a quick tutorial on the art of the backstab!? AND is it an effective attack option? Thanks in advance.
|
Just turn invisible(anyway how) that physically get behind your enemy and strike. As easy as that.
|
Don't worry, I didn't know either till somebody told me.
You only have to press the hide in shadows button, go behind an enemy and attack him (notice how your thaco will be reduced when you're in stealth). I'm not the kind of guy who backstabs (cause I'm a swashbuckler), but this skill can be very usefull. |
and only specific weapons can backstab. though i cant remember which. but for instance hammers cant be used to backstab. neither can arrows.
somebody else can post an exact list. ------------------ http://slackerboy4.tripod.com/golem07.gif http://slackerboy4.tripod.com/slackerboy02.gif http://slackerboy4.tripod.com/golem10.gif *Lord of the Screen Shot* Get My IronWorks Winamp skin |
u can backstab with dagger, short sword ,long sword & katanas
i dont know for wakisashi, scimitar and that |
I think that every weapon a thief can wield can backstab (exept a missile weapon).

what about club's?
cant theive's carry those? and if so, how do you stab somebody with a club? ------------------ http://slackerboy4.tripod.com/golem07.gif http://slackerboy4.tripod.com/slackerboy02.gif http://slackerboy4.tripod.com/golem10.gif *Lord of the Screen Shot* Get My IronWorks Winamp skin |
Scimitars can also be used to backstab.
And yes, it is a very useful attack. A multiplier is used to calculate damage from a backstab, so damage will be x2, x3, x4 etc. depending on the level of your thief. An especially good way to use this skill is to backstab an enemy mage - you can often kill them outright before they start to cast. Another tip is you should always be prepared to run after your attack if facing more than one enemy or if your first attack is unlikely to kill outright - anything which will make you move faster is useful (boots of speed, potions, haste spells etc.) ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/epona2.gif Time is an illusion. I heard in BGII: clubs and maces can be used for backstabing
but i never tried. I know for sure only edged weapons can backstab in BGI, IWD, TotSC, PS:T. someone told me clubs and maces can be used for backstabing, which I suspect its truthfulness |
I don't think clubs can be used. Personally I'd rather the swords couldn't be used for backstabbing too. I'm pretty sure they're slashing weapons and a Katana is really a two handed weapon. The damage a katana inflicts forces you (hypothetically) to use it for backstabbing though.

hey, someone told me he is VERY sure clubs and maces can backstab. |
Maybe they can 250, I never tried to stab someone with a club before. If it works maybe they should call it a back clump instead. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

A half-orc thief/cleric showed me how to use the club and quater staff to back stab http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
You can use all but the thief weapons, except the ranged ones (no arrows, bolts, darts or their launchers). So it is : Short sword Long sword Katana Waz/Scmitar/Nija-to Quaterstaff Club Dagger The club and quaterstaff can be though of as the blackjab and slapjacks and night-sticks. Personally I think backstabing with those should give you a chance to stun with. I have heard you can use your fist to backstab too. Have to check that out. ------------------ Drink and be merry http://www.tgeweb.com/images/forum/icons/beerchug.gif Jimbo http://www.tgeweb.com/images/forum/icons/ninja1.gif "Renegade, Rebel, and Rogue" |

Well Rik, I can tell you from real life experiences, gettin hit in the back with anything can hurt. Also, with the element of suprise you can get hurt even more.
3 of my friends got jumped one time on leave. One friend got hit in the back of the head by a guy, and was knocked out immediately, one friend turned into the blow, and got hit in the lower jaw (lower jaw was busted but not broken thank God). The other turned and squirmed out of his attacker, and tried to fight of the remaining three, since one was out, and the other down with some extreem pain, and that left the one friend and 3 of em. Luckly the fight was broke up, as the mp's came upon it (the three attackers ran as soon as the mps showed up). I've been hit in the back before and it can bring you down hard. I got hit in softball one time going for a ball, when a team mate dove at it too... boy did that hurt. |
oh yeah, you can get drilled from behind. no question. but i'm just trying to visualize "stabbing" someone in the back with a club. very messy http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
