Make sure u got negative plane protection. Although if u move away just as he is about to breath on u, u can avoid the level draining. Actually this is supposed to be one of the easier dragons (ie. u get less XP). Just do the normal dragon slaying stuff: Breach to get rid of stoneskin, lower resistance, greater malison, then try finger of death etc. If u have a thief, set some traps before u attack him. If u have good fighters get them using their bows and of course summon some elementals or something to distract the bugger.

Mage spells that are useful:
Breach, Magic Missiles (lots of them, prefer to be Spell Sequenced), Flaming Arrows, Fire Ball, Lighting, Lower Resistance, ANY creature summoning spells (e.g. Monster Summoning 3), Wizard Eye.
Druid spells that are useful:
Fire Elemental, ANY insect summoning spells, Call Woodland Being.
Cleric spells that are useful:
Healing related ones, Chant, Bless, Aid, Defense Harmony ... etc.

Never use acid attacks, technically he is immune to acid. Try to summon an Wizard Eye and send it in, then summon monsters (4 at a time) and have them force attack the dragon.
When your summoned monsters have "wasted" the dragon's more powerful spells, send in your fighters and have your mages cast Lower Resistance on the dragon a couple of times. With the resistance lowered, start casting the above mentioned offensive mage spells.
Everyone should either be: hacking, healing, spell casting, bolt/arrow/bullet shooting and NO ONE should stand around.

P.S. also traps setting works well to weaken the dragon, don't kill it with traps alone since you will NOT get the exp points if only traps kill the dragon.

I had success summoning two elementals to distract him while hitting him with three lower resistance spells and for a grand finally throwing every damage inflicting spell I could muster, at him. Of course I did have 3 magic users and a cleric in my party. Ultimately, I suggest beginning the battle by using lower resistance or greater mallasion (sp?) to allow any spell casters to be effective during the battle. FYI, lower resistance is cumulative, consequently multiple castings of this spell greatly increase the likelihood that your spell casters will be effective. Good luck.

THIS IS THE EASY WAY
stand where the dragon can't see you, but he's just outside of vision. Use 5-10 charges off the wand of cloud kill so that he's in the cloud, but still out of site. Bye bye dragon (also works on Firkraag)

Negative Plane Protection is a cleric spell (level 4), which your priest will get the option of memorize this spell when he/she is at the appropriate level.

As for instant death spell, the only one that I know that can kill a player instantly is Imprisonment (and I am NOT sure if this is what you meant by "instant death" spell). The other spells like Death Spell, Finger of Death, Power Word Kill all have some sort of condition to satisfy such as current hit point, saving throws ... etc in order to kill a creature instantly.

Party: J, Vic, Aerie, Minsc, Mazzy, Me (Stalker)

First: I sourouded her from a distance, keeping out of wingbeat range. Cayle and Vic crept up. She cast magic resistance and I backstab. I do it this way because MR is being used offensively here and T SHOULD go red.

After Cayle gets tossed about by the wingbeat (Console-> Viconia:magic resistance), Mazzy and Minsc move in and begin to pepper her with arrows and get chased around a bit. They kept T busy and not interested in Aerie who began pounding her with spells and wands from a distance. J cast summon insects to no effect and Vic cast flamestrike.

Vic survives a breath weapon because of magic resistance and T starts to chase her. Vic runs outside of the pillars. Her hit points were not high enough to survive even if she made her save. Mazzy, Minsc and J take turns tossing missles and getting chased. Cayle wakes up and joined the "shoot bow... run away" game. Aerie kills dragon (OK, minus one flamestrike, one longsword backstab ~30hp and a few arrows)! My opinion of her increases...

If you do get hot with the breath weapon (assuming you make your save) run to wall to rest and use your healing. One reason this fight is easier than Firkag is that you have more room to manuever and minimize the dragons abilities. Use it well.

Negative plane protection makes u immune to level drain- which the shadow dragon is quite good at. Although when I killed him with my solo barbarian I just moved every time he was about to breathe on me and he missed. You can time this right by moving when he rears up. Boots of speed help. by the way all my characters have magical weapons so it comes up a lot saying he's immune to this.

how do i strip him of this'as i prefer these and don't have any normal weps at all.

cheezy cloudkill from a distance trick
backstab(don't know if this kills'or just causes big injury)
dragons don't like lightning'so lots of lightning magic
set snares around him before he starts becoming hostile
this fake attack thingymajiggy while still blue circle around him

how many times can this dragon cast protect from magic spells'as i keep removing his protection and he seems to keep recasting.

also i have know equipped my guys with normal weps as he seems to have a protection from magic weps spell'so can i just go hammer and tongs?

He isn't casting immunity to magic, but has a high magic resistance and so is very difficult to harm with any magic, ok http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

cast cleric spell magic resistance on him a few times, this drops his magic resistance to some ratio of the cleric's levels...far lower than his natural magic resistance. That should drop it enough times. =) once you do that just cast doom and hit him with a quivering palm =)

planted masses of snares around him'before he awoke/got pissed.
some of you may know this'but if you keep removing someone from your party'then instantly take them back'their special abilities are recharged.
was very useful when getting yoshimo to plant his snares again and again.

by the way this was so cheezy i feel guilty.
no spells casted or nothing after all the days of posts and advice.
he died in less than 1 second it was that quick!!!snap snap snap!!!
felt a bit cheated of a skillful battle and also guilty that i had done it'but hey my parties still fairly low level so next time i'll do the proper way.

Have cleric cast "Magic Resistance" on him to replace his current MR with a lower value. Move out of sight. Cast lots of area effect spells (Cloudkill, Death Fog, etc) near where he is outside your range of vision. Wait for him to die. Loot body
