Alright now i opened my eyes to different weapons them katana's long swords and staves i came to the shocking conclusion that BG2 has a lot of good weapons and I'm kinda lost
And I'm sure a lot of others are aswell
So i was gonna make a small poll and becoz this is a specific BG2 poll it's not in the polls section (anyone still reading?)
So what is your favorite weapon Top 10?

Memnoch 04-28-2001 03:19 AM

My opinions? Well, FWIW, I've got a Top 5.

Best melee weapons statistically:

1. Crom Faeyr
2. Celestial Fury
3. Blackrazor
4. Vorpal
5. Soul Reaver & Holy Avenger

Best in terms of usability in the game:

1. Crom Faeyr
2. Celestial Fury
3. Vorpal
4. Warblade
5. Impaler

Notice I've left out Blackrazor, Carsomyr and Soul Reaver from my second list due to the usability restrictions in the game. I've also excluded staves like the Staff of the Magi and the Staff of Power as they are less "melee" weapons than wizardly aids. I've also excluded Drizzt's weapons.

Feel free to disagree - opinions are like a-holes - everyone's got one.

Hey, did you know that the Flame Tongue is actually a +4 "to hit" weapon?

Crom Faeyr also hits as a +4 weapon. The upgraded Mace of Disruption hits as a +4 weapon vs Undead and makes them 'pop'

flame tounge is 1D8 +1, +2 vs. regenerating creatures, +3 vs. cold/fire creatures, +4 vs. undead.

crom fayer is very powerful, but you have to give up all the belts of strength and isnt really worth it.

And the best weapon will be flail of ages, especiallt in ToB with extra heads.

Flame Tongue is +4 TO HIT as I said earlier, Dramnek. From a damage modifier point of view it is as you say. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Flame Tongue +4

There was a time before Neverwinter was warm and before the great Anauroch was dry...or so it is said. Few relics remain to prove such an age existed, and fewer still have an identifiable purpose. "The Burning Earth" seems straightforward enough -it burns a victim with magical fire, and a cryptic rune seems to suggest that the power comes from the ground itself- but whomever constructed it remains a mystery. It looks a perfectly serviceable weapon, but something in the balance or grip is...wrong. It strains the forearm a touch, and does not fit the hand just right. It doesn't seem to hurt a warrior's performance, aside from the nagging doubt that the blade was not made for him...or any other humanoid.

Though the sword's blade is a focused, solid mass of fire, a hint of real fire will still be required to kill trolls once they are downed.

STATISTICS:

Always considered to be of +4 enchantment when determining what it can hit.
Damage: 1D8 + 2, +2 vs. regenerating creatures, +3 vs. cold/fire creatures, +4 vs. undead
Damage type: slashing
Weight: 4
Speed Factor: 3
Proficiency Type: Long Sword

Requires: 6 Strength
Not Usable By:

I do love the combination of the pixy prick and bone dagger. I like a dual thief-fighter with 2 daggers in hand. with grand master of course. There is the Fire tooth dagger, 2d4+3 for a dager is like a bastard blade +3 but it is a throwing boomerang weapon also! My pc can throw it 10 times in a round with improved haste! Damn, Jarlaxle will be jalous !

Mhmm, my swash buckler is dual weilding stilletto Demarches and Artemis' Soul Taker at the moment.. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif I summoned him and killed him...heheheh, it's a pretty effective combo i think without being too powerful.

Yes indeed...

Gimlee 04-28-2001 10:50 AM

I never saw the "always consider as a +4 to hit" on the flame tongue. Were have you seen it Memnoch?

Dreamer128 04-28-2001 10:54 AM

Holy avenger rules!
+5 to hit and damage + an aditional +5 versus chaotic evil creatures + the +3 versus dragons and demons of my cavelier= a lot of damage.

Gimlee 04-28-2001 10:55 AM

The flail of ages is the best early game weapon.

Dreamer128 04-28-2001 10:57 AM

Try dual wielding Flail of Ages with crom faer or black razor.

Gimlee 04-28-2001 10:59 AM

Yes, and the flail will slow his oponent when it hits (very usefull). It's the best cleric weapon.

Since clerics aren´t very good at close combat, i always give them that +5 sling. I consider that one to be the best cleric weapon.

Rikard 04-28-2001 11:05 AM

Give the cleric Crom Feayr and (s)he will become you main Tank

yes, and since blunt weapons are the only waypons that can do some serious damage against clay golems, I always send Viconia (with the girdle of fortitude or she will get squashed) or Anomen. Clerics don't have a bad thaco either.

Another good thing about the Flail of Ages is the elemental damage, which can get through mage stoneskins and mantle defenses (kind of a cheezy loophole in the game, though). http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Heheh, you guys don't have the latest description from the Baldurdash website. I was on the Black Isle forum when I heard Kevin and Dave from Bioware approve Kevin Dorner's description updates.

I guess I should've clarified that when I posted the description up. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/redface.gif

Yep. There's hundreds of little inconsistencies. Visit Baldurdash and download Kevin Dorner's Item Description Fix which is sanctioned, if not officially supported, by Bioware. Warning though: it will overwrite any custom item you have with a blank description, even if it isn't in your override, so make sure you have the items saved as TBG files.

That's how I saved myself. I'd uploaded a bunch of my items to Jon The Hell Caster's MOD site, so I downloaded the zip file and reinstalled them into my override. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...s/rolleyes.gif

So you guys say that the flame tongue is +4, and ads +1...,+3vs...

Is it better than daystar then???

Gimlee 04-28-2001 07:26 PM

Can anyone answer me???
What is better betwen the daystar or the flame tongue??????

Epona 04-28-2001 07:31 PM

Wow! I'm hanging on to the Flame Tongue then, I assumed it was +1 to hit, as I haven't got the updated descriptions - previously I have just sold it not realising it was so good.

As far as weapons go, I'm not really a powergamer, so don't tend to set out thinking I have to be able to use the best weapon in the game. I also think there are way more magic items than you would get in a PnP game, where magic items would usually be rare - a real DM can tailor his rare magic items so that they can be of use to the party which doesn't happen on the PC - hence one reason for a proliferation of magic items, so at least your party will be able to use some of them ( - also to attract people who may not be PnP purists who may prefer to powergame rather than roleplay).

So I tend to prefer items you can get early on, such as the Cleric Staff +3, Flail of Ages, Arbanes Short Sword, Lilarcor, Frostreaver, Elven Court Longbow, Tansherons Bow, Tuigian Bow, etc etc.

All stuff that is good, but not IMHO overdone. As far as I am concerned, Crom Faeyr is WAY too powerful and I don't use it often, I prefer a bit of a challenge http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif That way I also get to keep the belt & gauntlets separate giving more all round party balance - which I prefer rather than have one super-powerful character.

Gimlee 04-28-2001 10:44 PM

You're right. Sometimes, I find the game a litle too easy. I killed Firkraag with finger of death when I was expecting a big fight(snif). They should've thought about people that do the hole chapter 2 before leaving the continent. Fighting Bohdi's guild at level 17 wasn't of any chalenge. Maybe I should put the game to a harder difficulty or play with a less good class.
