With all the possible NPC's in the game I have no idea what characters to keep as party members. For example I have Nalia as a party member because of the Fighters stronghold quest and because I am not sure if I can retain controle of her Castle if I dismiss her form the party. As a mage I think she blows, Immoen was much better.
What characters are actually really worth keeping. any input would be great. |
You can dismiss Nalia and you will still maintain the stronghold I'm almost
certain of this. ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/wizard1.gif Walk lightly my friend. |
agrippa1,
Be patient people will answer your question friendhttp://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif give it a litlle time as for keeping characters I really don't know alot of people have different opinions on that as for me I've only kept one NPC for the romance part and that is Jahara. ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/wizard1.gif Walk lightly my friend. |
Personally I like Nalia. However, that may just be due to my playing style. I have one pure fighter, one thief, and four spell casters (two of which can double as fighters if the situation calls for it). For this reason I like Nalia because she adds depth to my spell casters. In the first round I can web an area send two fireballs and a doom spell (I believe this is the right name) with my fighter free to pick up anyone that escapes.
Boy I can't wait until I have access to high level spells. Multiple mages casting Time Stop in succession sounds devastating. |
It depends just remember that your party needs at least one thief, about 2-3 tanks and 2-3 mages.
My current party : Me (Assasin/fighter) Valgyar Keldorn Edwin Aerie Jaheira ------------------ Mess with the best Die like the Rest!! |

I havent had this party for long, but it will probaly be my party for the rest of the game if it keeps working out as well as it has been.
Me (Necromancer) Aerie Minsc Edwin Haer'Dalis Yoshimo |
I had a *BIG* post over this in the past, and the repsonse was much more towards Imoen than Nalia so I guess she isn't worth bothering after all.
*SPOILER*.................... When you get Imoen back in the Underdark - she will only be LEVEL 13 AT MAX!!! So if you don't want to trade your powerful LV 17 Nalia with all her spells then DON'T TAKE HER IN THE BEGINNING! Save those spells for Imoenhttp://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif ------------------ http://www.gis.net/~yos/lichwah.gif Greetings mortals, my name is Wah, Arch Lich Wah. |
I never took Nalia into any of my parties. She whined too much and had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp. I could rectify that now, of course. Maybe she would look good as a moose!

Can anyone tell me whether you need to do the Priest cult of eyeless quest to keep Keldorn, or does he not mention it if you dont do it? Just wondering because I can never be arsed and its scary!

I love these questions, because every single 'boardroamer' has a different opinion on the best party. It says more about individual playing styles than anything else, which is always really interesting. I like a 'spell heavy' party and like Nalia because if you want a good aligned mage she is the best option - Aerie advances too slowly because she is multi-class so will never reach the higher levels that Nalia gets to (and she whines almost as much). I often end up with both of them though. At the moment I have a party consisting of:
Jester Jaheira Minsc Nalia Aerie Keldorn Keldorn will join you regardless of whether you do the seeing eye quest or not, and will not pester you to do it either, so don't worry about it Elhardo. I would say that it is worth doing though, because there are a lot of good items to be found because of it. Don't try it at too low level unless you want a really tough time of it though - it will be less scary if you wait until a medium level to do it! ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/epona2.gif Time is an illusion. thx for the help...Ill prolly do cult of eyeless when i get back from underdark...I am a paladin this time round so ill leave Keldorn though

My party
Gd_00 (dwarf, fighter) Minsc Keldorn Viconia Aerie Imoen Can I get rid off Imoen (or better not take it in CH4)? I think Jan Jensen would better fit to my party (better tief) And next time Im getting Edwin (instead Aerie), I think it better to have "clean" mage & cleric than multiclass, what do u think Is it true that multiclased & dualclased mages cannnot have 9th level spells. Which mage kit do u find the best (Transmuter or maybe Necromancer...) I still dont know (I finished the game with party i mentioned) if sorc. is better than a mage (I know the difference between them). Thats for now. |
I prefer making my own party,
The results are like a strawberry ice slush on a sweating dayhttp://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif ------------------ http://www.gis.net/~yos/lichwah.gif Greetings mortals, my name is Wah, Arch Lich Wah. |
Funny... I always went for a very 'balanced' approach <alright, I'll admit it - I went for the first NPCs who signed up> but the result was a very powerful party indeed, given the right increases and equipment. I had:
THE VANGUARD Tancred, my Paladin Minsc, everyone's favourite hamster lover By the time these two had reached maximum level, they were wielding Carsomyr and Warblade around like dervishes. With the right armour each had an AC of -8, not bad at all. Plus, each of them had the ability to heal - Minsc could also charm animals, while Tancred could Draw on Holy Might and generally apply pressure to posteriors everywhere. Minsc was usually armed with a decent bow, making him an okay shot for those times when you just needed every shot you had. Then, there are... THE JACKS OF ALL TRADES Sir Anomen, a pious loser Jaheira, a tough nutess Jaheira I had major problems with. I was barely able to get her lo level 14 in either Fighter or Druid class. However, her spells made her an excellent choice for battlefield support against Mages, throwing Dispel Magics, Insect Plagues, Zones of Sweet Air and the ultimately necessary Find Traps. Wielding Blackblood, a powerful club, and wearing serious armour, Jahiera could serve as a useful fighter to fight alongside either Tancred or Minsc. Anomen, on the other hand, was easily able to fight well once the problem of his low DEX was countered - with a flail or warhammer <Crom Faeyr, naturally> he generally killed lots of things. Both had an AC of -9, and both had a powerful sling loaded with +2 bullets, making these two the cornerstone of my offensive artillery. Both are replete with healing spells, making them also the party's doctors. THE REARGUARD Imoen, the squeaky thief/mage Nalia, the nasal thief/mage Both of these were more or less the same character. However, as Imoen entered the party rather late - and Yoshimo had filled in as Thief for much of that time - Nalia was quite an able mage by this point. Imoen was loaded with low-power spells, leaving Nalia to work on her powerful abilities, while Imen was also given every piece of thief-enhancing equipment I could find to try to turn her into a reasonable thief. Once Imoen got hold of Elven Chainmail and Nalia the Robe of Vecna, the magic missiles came thick and fast... Imoen was also armed with a powerful shortsword, giving her mediocre backstabbing ability, and both had a powerful shortbow. Long-range support were the tasks for this bunch. In the end, this party proved quite able, having a broad mix of abilities and the occasional specialisation that made for a dynamic and effective team. Usual tactics saw Tancred and Jaheira cut left, Minsc and Anomen cut right, and Imoen and Nalia holding the centre with spells. It worked for me, so I say - specialisation isn't everything. Tancred It's no good. I can't think of anything funny to say. |
If u ask me the more mages u have in ur party the better. Creat a party in multiplayer and for ur tanks ave fighter/mages and for ur casters have pure mages. Stick with this and ur laughing! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif
Also it helps to ave a cleric/mage in ur party for healing and raising. ------------------ Kick me if u think i'm dumb. |
