Baldur's Gate, as a city, wasn't too pleasant. There was a major coup brewing, yes, but still it was pleasant enough to visit.
Athkatla, on the other hand, has -
- Irenicus' dungeon on the promenade
- A lunatic illusionist not more than 50 yards from Irenicus' dungeon
- A colony of Illithids living in the sewers
- A Beholder cult, also in the sewers
- Two serial killers <one from Baldur's Gate>
- A multidimensional Sphere in the SLums
- A troupe of player-actors with a multiplanar price on their heads
- The only Harper Stronghold in the world
- The Shadow Thieves
- The vampiric Guild of Assassins
- The Cowled Wizards
- A vast slavery market

On the whole, it's a damn good thing Irenicus DID bring the PC to Athkatla, or all hell would have broken loose in a matter of months.

It'd be entertaining to watch. Although only from faaaar away.

A Drow who was last heard of in Peldvale! Weird, eh? Perhaps the Crooked Crane Lich was once a powerful mage who simply didn't have enough cash to pay for all the beer he drank - so when he fell drunk, the bar owner and his cronies walled him up?

Tancred

"Centuries, damn you. Centuries without a pint. Now someone is going to pay!"
- Drunk Bob, Lich, ex-mage

Tancred 04-02-2001 06:14 PM

"It's popped it's clogs and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-mage."

Sorry... coundn't resist. (mad, cackling laughter...)

Tancred

I should have been Chaotic Evil, you know.

Lord Shield 04-02-2001 06:31 PM

All in all, are any normal humans living in that town or is it one big hack-fest?

Wah 04-02-2001 06:34 PM

To answer - no. It's one damnable hell.

I *especially* love that cheating husband - you know: Rumar.

According to the rarity index in the monster manual, the city also contains about half of all liches in the entire world http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Wah 04-02-2001 07:06 PM

So I am..............a rarity?

So much for a family tree. LOL!http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

Or The Sword Coast?
Or Sembia?
Or Cormyr?
Or even the Wood Of Sharp Teeth?
