I now this topic has been brought up about a hunderd times but something really bothers me.
I never had much trouble with any spellcaster (with the exceptions of Kangaxx and Jon himself)in Bg2 but since we will most likely encouter a lot more of them in the expansion im a little worried about the no saving throw spells like imprisoment.
No matter how strong you're fighter is he will always be taken out in the first shot.
Spell immunitie once a day for every five levels of the caster for all fighting classes would be fair since they can't summon any shields.
I would like to know you're opinions on this.

Yorick 03-27-2001 12:19 AM

No prob for a Monk. Magic resistance normally worked a treat for me.
Potions that resist magic help, as does the anti magic scroll.

Plus with all the disruptor devices you can use, I don't think there's an imbalance at all.

Does magic resistance help against spells with no saving throws?

250 03-27-2001 12:30 AM

there will be no resis for imprison

magic resistence helps against just about everything

Yorick, nice guita!!!

Xanthul 03-27-2001 12:33 AM

Magic resistance doesnt work with the Inprisonment spell. If it doesnt say anything in the spell description, magic resistance works with the spell.

Inprisonment is SO COOL !!!! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...s/coollook.gif

That sucks, they should balance all classes.
Although fighters to get a nifty Whirlwind attack in TOB

no worry, there are several ways to get around that

Sure, if you have one of your party members cast a defense spell on ya, but not for a solo fighter.

250 03-27-2001 12:49 AM

yes, for solo fighter as well

Dreamer128 03-27-2001 12:52 AM

Like what 250?

250 03-27-2001 12:54 AM

like run away, lol

no, not really.

have helm of vihlor, and buy two scroll of protection from magic

put them in quick item slots. when you fight your enemies, use the helm, create a sim of yourself, have the sim cast protection from magic scroll on your fighter

Oh well I must have had one lucky Monk then. Imprisonment never bugged me. Only once or twice would an NPC get it, but I made sure I had freedom around.
Ta, re. the Guitar Wei. Jerome got it for me http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Maybe you're right, lots of players have complaint about this.(or are you talking about the monk)
But that still doesn't solve my problem.

Well my question is
Why would anyone want to be a fighter?
What's the fun of that?

Right, sounds like you need a cleric.
A mage with acces to level9 spells will always beat a high level fighter.

actually, Yorick, lets not start this. this WAS what started the whole mess back in my old board.

the fact is, I know how to counter high level spells with fighter, and mages could not do anything against it. BGII screwed up mage's ability badly, and it has been proven over and over in real duels. (i myself used mages to fight fighters before, and eventually end up losing to some good dueler)

what i am trying to say is, to start an argument over this is pointless, lets close the matter right here. we both keep opinions to ourselves.

and Deamer, I fought a dozen of them

give me a second, i am reading your post

Rikard 03-27-2001 01:38 AM

WEll realise what you say 250
a level 50 mage that is like elminster times 3
If you are level 50 you can shadow door iron skin and mantle so you invounreble for at least the time to cast a timestop and well you are dead with one abi dalzim at level 50
that is like 50*8 = 400 damage max and 250 averige damage
that lowers with a save vs death to 200 max and 125 averig but still very impressive
Don't let yourslef be decieved by those whimpy In-Game Mages
as they are as strong as a Mage PC of 10 levels lower

Did you read some of the replies? It's a funny old thread. Of course I was taking the "Devils Advocate" role, picking an extreme view. But then I started convincing myself (scarey).

Of course Bards are one of my favourite characters. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif

250 03-27-2001 01:46 AM

the problem is, you cannot even get your first spell out http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

you see, the philoserphy here is, you are lvl 50, and you already have advantages over me, so i wouldnt wait there and let you cast time stop.

i will put on a protection from magic scroll on YOU the first instance i realise you are using time stop. (it is very easy to tell, just look at the color, and the protections you are wearing right now.)

1) in order to cast time stop, you HAVE to have protection from magical weapon on. EVERYTHING else can be penanrate through by crom faeyr +5

2) the color of time stop is green.

so i just put a scroll on you, and you are muted forever (go check it yourself and see what the scroll does)

also, a barbarian can easily get 60% magic resistance without cheating
a fighter can always attack during each round while mages have to either run or hide
a barbarian can use bow to chase mages, also barbs have speed bonus

you can use invisible such as staff of magis, but scroll of magic protection dispels it. you still end up dead

---------------------------------
Here we go again....
(although Rikard has a point)

250 03-27-2001 01:49 AM

note: you cannot get even one time stop out. a time stop with robe of vecna takes 4 seconds to complete. it breaks you from invisible! that gives fighter the chance to put a scroll of magic protection on you (even though they can put one on you no matter you are invisible or not, but i dont want to take advantage of the exploiting bugs)

Rikard 03-27-2001 01:57 AM

Well Mantle is cast instandly give protect to +5 weapons
lower resistance lowers resistance
and with Robe of Vacna you can cast 3 lower resistance per time stop at level 50 lower resistance with about 100%
And ADHW is cast within a couple of second a good mage can kill any fighter nomatter what the level
Thief are really something else but not that big of a problem either
