Okay...I wanted to try a Monk...then whoa, Paladins are soo cool sounding..but monks kick their ass......Mage..yea Mage...what? You mean I can Dual wield AND Be a Mage???....yea but Barbarians can rage..oh wait ...kensia theif..yeah that one can just wipe out all of the monsters....wait ..I haven't even played a Barb yet...shit! 250 03-20-2001 12:31 AM

how about this? play a party of your own, forget about NPCs first time

human monk
half-orc barbarian
elf ranger/cleric
human assasin dual to fighter later
human kensai dual to mage later
human inquister

or try this:

elf archer
human socerer
halfling fighter/thief
half-orc fighter/cleric
human shapshifter dual to fighter later
dwarven berserker

heh, this almost covers a lot of new features. have fun.

Dude i totally feel you man. before i found out about this board i used a Monk and played the game without regrets or anything. Now it seems like i have to check in everytime i make i move in the game so that i won't make any mistakes.

But i like this board and it's not so bad. It adds to the replay value of the game as Accord said.

Its ok, we all have gone through character overload. I myself have changed my character over 20 times. They all are good, you just need to ignore everyone else and pick a class that fits you. Just stick with what you like.

You think you got it bad? Here I am reading all the posts, read the guides, drooling over BG2 and how it's great, and I've not touched it beyond installing it. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...s/rolleyes.gif

Just trying to complete my current game (Jagged Alliance 2, 3rd time at it).

You can do what I do - I play through with a different character everytime. Sometimes I multi with a couple of NPCs and sometimes just NPCs backing me up... I always have a blast and changing the NPCs changes the quests.

Hehe.

I must be weird then... I started my character as a mistake.

I've never played a D&D game before, so I didn't realize how involved the whole process was...
So in the character creation screen, I didn't actually realize that there were scroll menus on the sides, and I pumped all my points into the first four categories (pick pockets, find traps, etc.) and completely ignored the other ones that were "hidden" until about 3 levels into the game...

That's OK though, because it all worked out in the end and he *ahem* uhhhh... I mean I became pretty damn cool.

there are other ones, DAMN!

Draggor 03-20-2001 10:42 AM

Just try and control yourself Dragon. I went through that stage too. I was worse. I've finished the game and then thought "This party isn't good enough lets try again" and promptly deleted my save game. So now I've finished the game four times and have nothing to show for it. If you really can't decide on one character then start several games and see which character you like the best. Or vow to yourself that you won't come back to this board until you've finished the game. That will make you hurry.

Just when you thought it was safe to visit this board.

Jimbo 03-20-2001 10:49 AM

Hey I had the same problem in EQ, took me forever to finally settle down with what I wanted to be, then I decieded to try something else http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

I do suggest mutli player that way you can make it there with a character, save a spot, import other of your characters, and see how they stack up in the same position.

Good luck and keep on gaming

LOL, Well, DP, you aren't alone! I started the game with a fighter/cleric pc, got halfway through Ch 2 and dumped her for abard(skald), which got set aside as a saved game while I then created a full fighter pc....which I recently dumped and have now gone back to the bard. Whew! So many choices, so many re-play possibilities...not nearly enough time!

Find a class that matches your play style as much as possible and then try to play it through. Like the others said, you can always start a new game eith another pc after that!

I thought this was about the server hanging up all the time, I have a lot of trouble with that.

On topic: I think 250 has a little point, if you want to play them all, then play a multiplayer game of 2-6 characters. Don't forget the kensai/thief though http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/hihi.gif

Dualclassing doesn't make sense, but it is allowed in this game.

DarkJedi 03-20-2001 12:05 PM

Hello Dragon Poop i also feel your pain. I am only outside of the dungeon going to get Aerie and i cant help myself reading posts about other quest way far off in the game where i am. but ya stick to what character you like for me its the assasin( hehe backstabhttp://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif )

MILAMBER 03-20-2001 02:56 PM

I had the same problem, but most of the choices you mentioned were good ones. I know it would be cool to make all your characters in a multi player game, but for your first time through, I think you should use some of the NPC's. It really adds so much to the game. We're with you brother!

Fljotsdale 03-20-2001 06:31 PM

Yeah you have to RELATE to your lead character, not just admire their skills! I am more comfortable with a good-aligned Cleric than any other type. I keep starting new games, too, trying all the different types and combinations, but I come back to my Cleric with a sense of relief.... It is important, too, to have a character portrait you like. I know lots of people are likely to think that the portrait doesn't matter - but I can't play with a character if I don't like the face.... (yeah, I know...!)
Maybe, when you have found a class you are comfortable with, you will be able to complete a game! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/hippy.gif

Dragon Poop, that's part of the replayability value of BG2 - being able to try different characters, different strategies, different stronghold quests, different alignment quests, everything.
