cHiCkEn_HeD 03-06-2001 03:18 PM

ok everyone, going under the assumption that it is a FAIR fight (no cloudkill's or laying traps all over the place then resting) and both your team AND the baddy are enemies at the SAME time, who is the toughest baddy? a mind flayer, demi-lich, or dragon. I dont think a mind flayer will get may votes, but hey, i thought i would throw them in there. my vote would go to a dragon. in a fair fight, dragons almost always kick my ass. i quivering palmed firekrag's butt once, but that doesnt count. demi lich's REALLY kick my butt too though...... well.... maybe i just suck then..... heh. but ya, who do you think is the toughest baddy in a fair fight?

Stealthy 03-06-2001 03:30 PM

I found Kangaax the hardest, especially if you don't use a cheesy method such as scrolls of protection against magic or undead. Dragons are relatively easy if you prepare properly beforehand and surround them on all sides. Mindflayers are annoying, but the right defensive spells and cloudkill wand defeat them every time.

Lord Shield 03-06-2001 04:16 PM

I would also say the Demilich. He required either: Holy Avenger, Ranger with Vorpal Sword, or Fighter with +4 weapon. Imprisonment every round means you need either: Scroll vs Magic, or cast Spell Shield against Abjuration school. Very limiting

Marillion 03-06-2001 04:30 PM

I would say Firkraag... I killed him once in just Melee Combat to try if that was possible with my chars... That was my hardest battle ever.
But this Demilich you keep talkting aboute.. where is he?
Have I missed him?
Or is that the one in tomb during the "Cult of the eyeless Quest" ?
If so I still say Firkraag.

Out of your list, I'd have to say Kangaxx. Imprisonment sucks! Hard to fight a battle when you ain't even there to fight it! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif

Off of your list though, I'd have to nominate Ol' Jonny Boy at the Tree of Life. Even though he didn't cast Imprisonment on my party (though he did Maze both my fighter and paladin), Jon was still a handful!

Hesperex 03-06-2001 04:42 PM

chortle..chorotle http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif I would have to say....Kangaxx...but thats not! counting that analy retentive bitch assed creation of John The Hellcaster's a lich but I forget it's name. It's sposed to be in Ravenloft http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

MILAMBER 03-06-2001 05:26 PM

Dragons without a doubt would be the toughest in a fair fight. If you can't use death fog or traps, it is hard to keep your warriors close enough to do damage when every few rounds you get blown back and stunned.

A tip to succed in beating Dragons in melee only is to use Potions of Invulnerubility (or sumfin like that http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif ) to help save aganist the stun from the dragons blow.

rodimus 03-06-2001 08:06 PM

Definitely Kangaxx! Imprisonment sucks, especially 4 seconds, 1 Imprisonment spell. I think, he's even harder than Jon. Had to do the most reloads to defeat this guy. By the way, Firkraag isn't immune against imprisonment, so, quick fight...

Marillion 03-06-2001 08:12 PM

Who is Kangaxx?
Have I missed something? http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...s/confused.gif

(Spoiler)

If you want to have the Kangaxx quest, go to the docks and try to find a trapped door. Its the house between Mae'Vars Guild and the Inn. Have Fun...

el_kalkylus 03-06-2001 08:51 PM

Nah, Kangaxx is easy, just use the good scrolls, or berserk. It is a lot easier the fewer party members you have if you want to defeat him without anyone getting imprisoned.

I think dragons are the toughest if you don't use cloudkill, death fog, incendary cloud, or abi dalzims horrid wilthing.

Marillion 03-06-2001 08:56 PM

I need some quick spoilers since I really want to beat the crap out of that one..
I have the body but where is the Torso?

Another question..
After talking to Crazy Celvan in Docks district he runs away in the Mae'Vars Guild and is nowhere to be found. Where is he and does he effect the game in any way?

el_kalkylus 03-06-2001 09:06 PM

I have no idea who crazy Celvan is.

Spoiler about Kangaxx.

You need to defeat 2 liches, one in the bridgedistrict, and one in the sewers. There are two liches in the bridgedistrict, but you shouldn't concern yourself with the one at the twisted rune, since that is a quest by itself.

Kangaxx is easy - once you've surfed the boards and found out the technique to killing him eh? http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Casting my mind back to October when I was trying to beat it for the first time - I must've spent about 15 reloads on Kangaxx before I figured out the technique. I never saw so many questions on how to beat one foe on any board than I did Kangaxx. Of course with the technique it's easy.

Heh...

I haven't tried Kangaxx yet, so I'm not too sure.

Mind Flayers...Well...They're okay...Just gobble up a potion of genius before fighting.

Dragons...Haha Are you kidding?
They're damn easy.

Magic Resistence, Pierece Shield, Breach, 2× Lower Resists

Send Fighters to mop up.

Oh, and try Mordenkainen's Sword too...I was bored, sent two of them to Firkraag, he cried that day.

To hit Kangaxx you need: A Paladin with the Holy Avenger, a Ranger with a Vorpal Sword or any fighter-type with a +4 weapon (such as Wave). Scrolls vs Magic (bought in Adventurers Mart) or Spell Shield vs Abjuration school will protect from Imprisonment. If not using the scroll, also have a "Death Ward" to protect against the Wail of the Banshee. Then Haste for good measure and add 5 teaspoons of whup-ass!!

Lord Shield, the vorpal is only a +3 sword and doesn't work against Kangaxx. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif

Somehow, if you're of a high level, Wail of the Banshee does not work.

Kanaxx was without question the hardest enemy I have faced yet..
After he came free he was really hard but i summoned a bunch of critters to be imprisoned instead of me. Than the Ring of Ram got hem scared and after that a few chops with Crom Fayer he was sliced into pieces.
With the cost of Anomen improsoned in the dungeon...
I wanted to try him without reading your tips and so I did but not without
costs..
I am now in need of Scroll of Freedom so to say http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif
BTW. Is there anywhere else but Underdark they can be purchased?

The gesen bow? it works wonders! turns that lich into your plaything! Have one fighter up front to distract ol' dead where he stands and stand back with the bow, firing away. it even disrupts his spellcasting! took him out in 4 or 5 rounds using minimal protections (evil), haste, chant, strength potion, Carsomyr and the gesen bow. had heard people bitchin' about this battle and was stunned when he died, rose and died again so quickly!

Lord Shield 03-07-2001 11:38 AM

The Vorpal sword does work, but only if wielded by a Ranger (I used Minsc). I found this out in my old Monstrous Compendium (AD&D) and tried it out

el_kalkylus 03-07-2001 11:44 AM

Every time I faced demi-kangaxx, he died from the first blow. I was using mace of disruption (the upgraded one).

Lord Shield 03-07-2001 03:10 PM

Upgraded? How'd you do that then?

cHiCkEn_HeD 03-07-2001 03:35 PM

Kangaax huh? i guess its all just personal experiences. i had much more trouble killin 'ol firkraag than i did Kangaax. so therefore he got my nod as the toughest baddy. but im glad to hear all the opinions! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

You get an assignment from a person at the templedistrict who wants you to get illithium for sir Sarles, an artist. When you get the illithium, you go to the dwarf at the docks and upgrade your mace of disruption. When you are equipped with this mace, you will be immune to level drain, and it will be a +4 against undead, and the undead must make a saving throw or be killed. This is why Kangaxx die very easy from this weapon.
