Yorick - You started it! Now Memnoch is reaping the rewards! hehe! Hey, don't ignore me now, my board presence is slowly draining away as it is!

CB - We usually don't lose power (crosses fingers). Boy am I glad I stayed home today, right now traffic is a nightmare with everyone leaving work early and the snowplows haven't even had a chance to cover the roads yet! Yikes! That coulda been me! ps- bought some diet dry food for the fatcat this morning. She's giving me some pretty dirty looks right now!

Cloudbringer 02-23-2001 12:43 AM

LadyWendy: I am very aware of those 'you are a mean and evil owner' looks for feeding any new food to a feline! Best of luck! Are you just adding a little to her regular food? It helps them adjust to the change (habit and digestion). I miss your presence on the board by the way, and mine will be reduced for now.

Memnoch 02-23-2001 05:53 AM

Hey Zekke, just thought I'd let you know I got the books. I didn't realize that Soul of the Fire was a hardcover! Must've been expensive. Thanks very much for sending. Now I have The Vampire Armand, Wizards First Rule, Stone of Tears, and Soul of the Fire, I don't know what to start first!

WOLFGIR 02-23-2001 05:58 AM

Just running past, don´t start with Wizards first rule, you won´t be doing much then reading if you do! It´s very good!!! By the way, Blood of the foil is after Stone of tears, but you maybe knew that already.. Cheers!

Tobbin_OHF 02-23-2001 06:55 AM

Well, I tell you, need to start with Wizards First Rule. Then you need to go Stone of Tears. Third you need to get Blood of the Fold. After that, go out and buy Temple of the Winds. While you are waiting for that book to get it in (almost always sold out), you can read Vampire Armand. Then you read book when it comes in. Then you gotta go to Soul of the Fire. After that you will want to get Faith of the Fallen. It should be in paperback by now as it has been out for awhile.

WOLFGIR 02-23-2001 07:03 AM

Well Tobbin O can agree to rhat.. they´re al good books after all..
Hey any of you read Raymond E Feists books?

Tobbin_OHF 02-23-2001 07:50 AM

Haven't seen them before. Can you give a synopsis?

WOLFGIR 02-23-2001 07:57 AM

u haven´t seen ém?
OK, its more like an epic story in "classic" AdoD environment, majoir characters are Pug a boy who becomes a great wizard, first books areabot him and his frinds, called the Riftwar Saga. He an Thoms, his childhood friend, are the more "lasting" characters and of course the kings and princes of the country. Allor of people die and you meet new people all the time, Feist can go overabout ten years in a hundred words..
They´re really good. Also check out Servant of the Empire (Feist and Jany Wurtz?) Takes place on the other side of the riftwar in the first books.
Huge serie but really cool! I mean we´re talking major hereos here!

Hellfire 02-23-2001 07:58 AM

Tobbin yer presence is needed on the front line

Tobbin_OHF 02-23-2001 08:12 AM

Huh? Snuzzat? Presence? What? Where? Oh, you mean your little run in with Wolfgir. Hahahaha. I know you aren't asking me to join in a duel with my hunting buddy? Hmmmmm. Sides, I thought you were my arch-nemesis. That looks pretty bad you going to your worst enemy askin for help. LOL.

Hellfire 02-23-2001 08:17 AM

no i was giving you a heads up that the shite is about to hit the fan and thought you would want to help you dog before i call the dog catcher

Tobbin_OHF 02-23-2001 08:20 AM

I appreciate the concern, but in matters of the hunt, Wolfgir can take care of his own. I gather that means that you want me to break out the knives and daggers again, huh? LOL

WOLFGIR 02-23-2001 08:31 AM

Hellfire, you faming bastard hehe, now don´t think I wont hunt you if I need to but call the dogcatchers and i will call the firedepartmet..

Tobbin_OHF 02-23-2001 08:33 AM

In case you were wondering which thread Hellfire was referring to:

Hellfire's Recruitment Thread

Cloudbringer 02-23-2001 10:15 AM

Wolfgir: Read the Riftwar Saga, ages ago. Probably missed later sequels (think I read 3? 4?) Pretty good reading as I recall.

WOLFGIR 02-23-2001 10:28 AM

Yes, they´re good. Merchant of nd demonqueenn and thoose after (probably didn´t get any of them right..) are really good. Things heat up abit you could say. Check ém out! [Warming cloudy´s feet! snooring alittle]

Cloudbringer 02-23-2001 10:36 AM

I just ordered several Forgotten Realm books so I won't be acquiring any more for a while, but I'll try and remember to look for the Feist volumes one of these days, thanks!

Cloudy

WOLFGIR 02-23-2001 10:44 AM

Ahh, but you will sooner than you think, the Forgotten Realms books you will read in a flurry, they´re funny and not easy to let go of!
Like thoose with Drizzt, haven´t read any with That wizard yet..

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 11:13 AM

Memnoch - your very welcome! If I were you I'd read the Vampire Armand first since it is such a small book. Then you can start the Terry Goodkind series. Yes, Soul of the Fire was a hardcover simply because I just couldn't wait for it to come out in paperback!

Cloudbringer, the snow has begun with a fury here in Virginia! It only started 10 minutes ago and everything is already covered! Lots of wind gusts too (glad I stayed home today!)

Yorick 02-23-2001 11:20 AM

(hrmrhrmrhrmrhrmrhrmrhrmrhrmrhrm)

Yorick 02-23-2001 11:24 AM

(Ignores Ladywendy and Memnoch )

Hey Wolf, I've read every Feist book and cowrite in the Medkemia/Kelewan series. I recommended it to Memnoch before I left.

Just joking Winders/Mem (sigh)

Cloudbringer 02-23-2001 11:48 AM

LadyWendy: Ugh...snow...well, I 'll be looking for it this evening then. Hope you don't lose power!

Wolfgir: I'm sure you are right! But I've still got a pile of reading left from the holidays too!

Hey Yorick! Just saying hello. (can my cats join your fan club? teehee)

Cloudy

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 01:56 PM

CB - we've cut away her "afternoon" feast so now she's down to two meals a day. I got the dry because they didn't have her type of food at the grocery store and had to get her something, so I espied that diet and said to myself "yep, the diet shall now begin!" But I tell ya she is driving me CRAZY today since I'm home. She will not stop following me, constantly meowing, sharpening her claws on the side of my chair relentlessly, etc.! She has not left my side for hours now! I wish my room had a door! Soon I guess I'll have to crank up some Limp Bizkit (runs far away every time!)

Cloudbringer 02-23-2001 02:24 PM

Just don't play Yorick's stuff- major cat attractant...snicker...
Does she like being hugged and squeezed and kissed all over? That drives Inga off faster than anything other than the silly music with web greeting cards! Cat: ACK she's mauling me again, rrrrreow I am sooooo abused! eeeeeerow...- wiggles out of grip and streaks off into the hallway shaking self and licking the spots dirtied by the mauler-- doesn't beg for food for hours..hehehehe

Ladyzekke, I love Terry Goodkind too! However, were all the titles Memnoch mentioned by him? I thought the last in the series so far was Temple of the Winds? Or is that just in the UK? I must admit that with all the sadomasichism and bondage, it was aimed at men, but glad to hear you like them as well!

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 05:31 PM

Stealth! Nice to see you! Actually the last book so far in the TG series is Faith of the Fallen (just came out and I GOT IT)! Memnoch has all the books now before that. Yes, I have to agree that one book, I think book 3?, was pretty grim. I personally hated the Mordsith or whatever those b##@#%s were!

Epona 02-23-2001 05:41 PM

I read a lot of Feist's books a good few years ago - great stuff.
I don't have much time for reading right now (I work full time and study too), but if you were going to recommend just one fantasy type book for me to read, what would it be?

I hope that you don't get too much snow - that's one thing we are lucky with in England, we don't usually get much snow, at least in the South where I live (but we have had a lot of floods the last 2 years).

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 05:58 PM

Epona - My personal favorite is C.S. Friedman. She has a few singles and one 3-book series. All are excellent. Luckily I stayed home today and I am soooo glad, as there are many traffic accidents out there right now because of the snow. One is a 20 car pileup and another (which is the road I would have taken) has a 116 car pile up! These poor people are going to be stuck until late in the night before they can finally get home. Whew! Close call! BTW - nice to meet you!

Epona 02-23-2001 06:03 PM

Thanks LadyZekke, I will look out for her books when I am shopping next.
The pile-ups sound really bad - I hope no-one was hurt. It is not nice to be stranded somewhere in the cold.

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 06:32 PM

Epona - Keep in mind that C.S. Friedman is a bit on the dark side. What I mean is she usually creates characters that are evil, but have reasons for being evil, and she has a way of writing that makes you care for them. Basically, because of this the books contain a lot of killing. But by the end of the books, things work out in a good way. So it depends on your tastes. I still think she writes brilliantly and I am anxiously awaiting her new one, which I can't find in bookstores, but have seen for sale on the internet. So it must be out, just a matter of time I guess for it to hit the shelves. Also, Moiraine suggested Robin Hobbs to me and they sounded interesting (ships that are alive and communicate with humans).
Yes, I know what you mean, and I do feel sorry for those hundreds of people right this minute sitting in their cars unable to go home because all of the wreckage. They said there was one fatality and the highway will be closed for at least eight hours. Luckily though, they do have the Red Cross out there helping all the people.

Epona 02-23-2001 06:41 PM

I think it's a bit of a skill for a writer to have - to be able to characterise evil people or distasteful acts in a way that will get the reader to empathise with the characters and understand their motives. I read plenty of horror so I am unlikely to be freaked out by it.
I have made a note of Hobbs also, that sounds like an interesting concept.

Memnoch 02-23-2001 06:57 PM

Well, I'm on an Anne Rice binge right now, finished Pandora (a brilliant book) and currently reading the Vampire Lestat which I haven't read yet believe it or not. So after that I want to read Queen of the Damned, then the Vampire Armand, then get stuck into the Goodkind series.

BTW you didn't tell me that Soul of the Fire was an autographed numbered copy!! Must've been expensive. Do you want me to mail it back when i'm done?

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 07:07 PM

Epona - oh good. Then you'll love C.S. Friendman for sure!

Memnoch - Can't believe you haven't read the Vampire Lestat yet! Random reader are you? And OOOOO, you are in for a ride with Queen of the Damned! And no, please don't send the Terry Goodkind book back because I really only bought it because I had just finished the book before that and was very anxious to read the next one and that is all the bookstore had. Funny, it was on the shelf I didn't know it was autographed! Anyway, I go through so many books and I do not have a bookshelf nor enough room and I only buy them to read, not to collect. So please, keep it my friend.

Stealth Bomber 02-23-2001 07:24 PM

Oh dear, I feel a trip to the bookstore coming. Another writer I like is Stephen Donaldson. I love the White Gold wielder trilogies. Not many fantasy books cast a child-molesting, incestuous leper as a hero. The wierd thing is you actually feel for him. Takes a very good writer to achieve that. Also his mythos is unusual and believable.

Ladyzekke 02-23-2001 08:15 PM

Stealth - I don't know! Child molesting? That's a pretty big stretch! The lovable incestuous pervert? Please, give C.S. Friedman a try (especially the Coldfire Trilogy).
