Yorick:
I got home today to a wonderful surprise. The cd's that you allowed Moiraine to make for me were in my mailbox! I rushed in, fed the cats, tore open the box/envelope and have the early one (from the cd that Moiraine managed to buy) on my player as I type. Am only as far as Shadow Rising and could not wait another minute to start this post. God has given you some awesome gifts, dear Bard, and I thank you so very much for sharing them with me. I know absolutely nothing technical about music. Can't read or play a note and my 4th grade teacher will vouch for that! But I do know what I like and your work is high on that list. Ariel and Shadow Rising are so far my favorites, but I'm only five songs into the first cd! That voice.....wow...well I'm sitting here enjoying the whole experience. I could write Thank You a few hundred more times, but I guess you get the idea! Can you add any background info to the songs - how you came to write them (or with whom), do any have special meaning to you etc etc? I hope your are safe and well on your journeys. Expect we'll hear from you when you get to Moiraine's. And give her a big hug for me, Yorick. She has helped make it possible for me to appreciate your talents. Cloudbringer ps- my cats usually run for cover whenever I play any new music or even sounds from the computer, but believe it or not, I am typing one handed now, with Merlie in one arm being incredibly cuddly...I think he knows I'm a happy owner! |
Yorick:
New favorite: Guiding Hand! Wow...uh, sorry, I'm less than articulate...hard to boogie around the keyboard and type! Great stuff, Bard. Lyrics to any of these available? I think somebody asked that once, but I didn't see an answer. Sigh....amazing voice, I just can't say it enough... LadyWendy is right, you'll have us all mooning around after you by the time we get to the end of one set of songs. (hey, I'm not kidding, here, people! Have you seen that pic Moiraine sent out?) Oh dear..."The words to sail away"-- beautiful. Ok, I'm clogging the ether up here...just assume I'll be gushing equally about most of the rest of the tracks I haven't even gotten to yet. Sigh..... |
Yorick,
Where can I buy a CD of some of your music - is any available and what is the album called? It seems to have made Cloudbringer VERY excitable, so I must try to find out! I play a bit of Guitar, Bass and Piano myself, so am always appreciative of music of all genres, and I try to have a wide-ranging taste (in all things, not just music). |
Epona: Maybe Moiraine can send the music to you (she sent some of us the songs by email attachment) Or Moridin might be able to, he was helping Moiraine as she has limited Internet access from home.
I have great respect for people who can play/sing or draw/paint. NOT my forte, either of them! Great talents, both. I have my words, but I envy the artists...sigh. And YES, excitable (chuckle). He has a wonderful voice. Now I'm wondering, Yorick, do you ever do traditonal, ballad type things? Cloudy |
Not much good on the painting side of things myself. I also don't practice my music as much as I should. I lost the joy for it some years ago when a band I was in split up and a very close relative who I loved (and still love) dearly has not spoken to me since as a result
Music is now starting to make me feel happy again; it was misery for so long because to play guitar would remind me of lost friends .... OMG, how miserable do I sound? I have come to terms with this, and know that I have done my best to put things right, so this is not something for anyone to feel bad about!! |
Epona: How sad! But maybe you'll find your muse again and music will flow. I really do admire people with the gift of music. I have a cousin who can play anything, but it's just a 'hobby' to him. To me, it's practically a miracle....take an instrument and bring such lovely, sad, haunting, lilting....etc sounds from it?! Wow!
Ahh, but if there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that we each have our special talents. And all of them are to be nourished and cherished. Play again, Epona and do it for the sheer joy of the sound and the love of the music! Cloudbringer, listening to Yorick's first cd for the 2nd time through |
Hey, Drake, Tobbin, feel free to 'WOW' Yorick too !
I know you are not cute sweetie birds (or you have lied since the beginning ... baaaad !) but still ! |
I had thought to post something here, but really wasn't sure what else to say. Yorick, you definitely have a gift. I'm still looking around to see if I can get a real CD of your music, but I enjoy the MP3's just the same. I have one of the songs on my webpage, but am still working on the others. Good luck to you on your journeys and life in general.
|
Clouddy,
Wow ! THAT's a post ! What on erath could I add to that ?!? Epona, I can send you Yorick's music on CDs if you give me your postal address. No big deal ! You can find my mail adresses (Work, Home) in my profile. |
........ (I'm speechless...)
Thankyou Cloudbringer. You've in turn made this Bard very happy. Very happy. |
Bard o'mine, I could do another 10 pages, but I already passed the 1000 mark here or so,I'm told and we wouldn't want to break any more records, now would we?
Oh and "Guiding Hand" and "Hope for a dying man" moved up into my top ten slot. And Yorick, this is so interesting: I mentioned my cats not liking new music/sounds? Well Inga usually bolts from the room at the least noise she doesn't recognize (took me playing Lorena McKennitt literally non stop for two days one weekend before the sweet skittish baby would stay in the computer room with me). But, are you ready for this? My little Inga was in the window when "Ariel" started playing and she sat there for the whole thing and walked out the way she normally would-no bolting! Then, and this is the really incredible part: she waltzed back into the room, hopped up onto the file cabinet next to my computer and asked for her usual combing, after which she got to the floor and lazily stretched and checked out her toys!!!!! Yorick, that was soooo UNLIKE her that I was dumbstruck. She has NEVER done that! She runs from the sound of webbased greeting card music on the computer, for crying out loud! I noticed her littermate, Merlie, sprawled on the carpet behind me, too, happy as can be. You charmed my whole household, Bard. I'm speechless...well, I was yesterday! LOL! HappyCloudy |
See, Clouddy, why I have my son learning piano ? (AND English !) So that a LOT of sweet women would some day address him compliments like that !
You will have to wait a bit though, like 10 years, he is only 9 ... |
That's pretty funny Cloudy, must be the Druid (read Greeny/hippy/animal lover) aspect of the Bard coming through (LOL)
I had a cat, a little three legged one - she lost her hind leg when she got lost during a storm one night. We searched for two days and found her caught in a fence. Dispite only having the one hind leg she coped really well and even caught birds/climbed trees etc as well as before. Anyway I used to play BG1 with her on my lap for hours. Damn I miss my little cat. Whenever I visit she meows around looking for me after I've gone.... (careful Hugh don't lose it...) I'm so glad you like the CD Cloudbringer. It means alot to me. Moiraine, if your son has ten years of playing behind him when he's 19 he'll be cooking! Epona, I had a simlar experience with my younger brother with whom I wrote many songs and played in a band with. We ended up having a very big falling out. Very very painful. But time healed the wounds, and we still loved each other and thus restored the friendship - to a point even better than before in many ways because we were more careful not to let the same thing happen again. When you create together it creates a mutual bond as well, one that is difficult to break but which makes a falling out all the worse. I understand your situ. I'm glad you're finding music enjoyable again Cloudy to answer to some of the q's will take much time! But that's cool. Drop me an email if you like Chanteur(a)bigpond.com - then hopefully I'll respond quicker than I did to Ertai's (sorry Ertai once again) Glad to hear about your cats, that's pretty cool |
Yorick,
Will do (email). Thanks. How'd I guess you were an animal lover? And a cat man! Nifty! You get to Moiraine's this Friday? I'll be looking for posts from both of you on the weekend, then! Moiraine: Awww, I'm glad your son is playing piano. Get him to learn Mussorgsky's Pictures at and Exhibition and I'll hop a plain to hear his recital! Gotta run off to work now. See you later |
Both my cats are pretty used to Yorick's songs by now ... I wonder if they will recognize him ???
|
Moiraine: I bet they will, as soon as he opens his mouth and that golden voice issues forth!
Cloudbringer |
Moiraine:
Thank you so much for your offer, you are very good to someone you do not know well - I will e-mail you shortly (I am having problems with my e-mail at the moment) but you may not have known that I live in England - I'm sure we can sort something out though! Cloudy & Yorick: I have met some wonderful people on the board, thank you for your kind comments. It is not something I feel bad about now, but I still hope that one day there will be a better resolution of the situation as in your case, Yorick. Thank you. |
Cloudbringer - you are wonderful advertising for Yorick's music! Now I want to hear it too!!
Yorick: is there a way for us to legitimately buy your cds? I would like to buy some, and that could help to fund your walkabout. Are they for sale anywhere? I would hate to have our kind & generous Moiraine use up her internet time just sending out copies of your music, which I suspect is where we're all headed if this thread is any indication! LOL Just wondering ... my interest is now officially 'piqued'. |
bilqis: Goody! He should share that glorious gift! And yes, if we can BUY the music, Yorick, please tell us how? I am addicted...sigh...
btw, Inga is wandering around my feet as I listen to your music...she likes it...it's so amazing! Cloudbringer |
Bilqis,
Again, no problem sending you a couple of CDs ! I am to send one to Draconia, Epona and Turbovee already next Saturday. Give me your postal address. If you really want to thank me, you know what you could do ? Send me a nice postcard from the States for my birthday (28th May) ! I would LOVE that ! |
bumping- the music is worth it
|
Hi everybody !
Draconia, Turbovee, Epona and Bilqis, I will send you CDs tomorrow. And ... if everything goes well, I will have Yorick do the writing around the CDs ! I am to fetch him at the station TODAY ! ('Somewhen around 7 PM', he said, no more precision right now ...) And ... I feel weird about this small thing : Will I recognize the man at the station ? Anyway, this is just great ! |
Hi there, where di you all find Yorricks CD´s?
Can you buy them or what? Would like to howl alittle to that Can someone help me get ahold of his music? |
Moiraine? Is he there yet? Are you off from work now for a few days now? Don't forget to post all the news to us when you get time!
Cloudy |
Wolfgir, just ask (and gimme your postal address), I'll send you what songs I have !
I remember having asked Yorick where I could find his music - no answer. He sent me 8 songs, those I have already sent to several people of this Board, either by mail or on CDs. I managed to find and buy one second-hand CD on an Australian Web site (his very first record actually). Here it is, that's all I know so far. But since the Bard comes here tonight, I will possibly know more soon ! Fare well, Wolf-friend, and I'm waiting for your address ! |
Hi Clouddy, I am at work today, but I have taken Monday and Tuesday off-work.
So ... everybody, mail me at home (claude.coiffier@wanadoo.fr) ! |
Hi Cloudy!
Did you use to sign off with "Cloudy" before?? How are your feet today? Well I saw that you had quit a fury to release yesterday hehe, poor nasties... hehe (Like your Cloudy sign ) Do you have any ideas for my webpage? |
Hi Wolfgir! Yes, we got a few inches of snow. Not too bad though and much better for me than LadyWendy, I think. Ours fell overnight, not during peak traffic hours!
No, I didn't always use Cloudy. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I believe it was Yorick that gave me that one and I've been using it off and on. Ha, well you know how my nicknames go...here today, gone tomorrow. But I like this one, so I'll keep it around. And for your webpage...well I hope you have a link to a WEATHER report! (for the STORM-Queen!) HAHAHAHAHA! Cloudy, who wishes she didn't have to leave for work soon |
Good idea, I will make a linkto Yahoo´s weather service then for you!
hehe.. Well iLike cloudy! stick ith it, for a day at least! |
I would be a little late to this but it is worthe it to let Yorick know just how talented I think he is. I have heard what Moiraine has sent me and I tell you what I really love the sounds. I put Groove sound on my computer at home and I just can't help but listen to it every time I am on it. I really think you have some great talent Yorick and I am so glad I had the chance to hear.
Oh and Moiraine I have cleared out some mail so could you fill it back up? It's bocajab@yahoo.com I will clear up the rest of my mail later thanks. |
Wolfgir: Scritches for my wolf-friend!
Drake: Yes, isn't he good?! Love Yorick's work, but then, I said that already, didn't I?! Cloudy |
Thanks Cloudy, just because your so nice I wont eat your cats when I sleep at your feet! hehehe mayb just growl alitlle
|
Hey Moiraine, I saw that you are sending people a cd. I wanted to know if you would be willing send me a cd too. If you would rather just send me the mp3s that would still be great.
thanks |
Wowow, err, is Yorick (sorry but I got it right finally )famous or anything, if you don´t mind me asking? I mean does he have a webpage or anything? With samples of his work or something?
|

Cloudy |
i don't know if you want payment but i would be willing to for a signed CD from Yorick and could you relay a message please Hellfire sayes hello mate ,that's all thank you
|
Awwwww you guys are too much.
I'm working on putting up a website when I get back. Ok, now here's the deal with the music. ILIAD (the CD Moiraine sent Cloudy) was released through Polydor/Polygram (now Universal) back in 1992/93. A 'dispute' between the label Emerald City and Polygram meant that.. well it's a long story but needless to say it's rare to find copies anymore. Thus I have no problems with people copying it because unless I negotiate a liscencing deal with another company (that gives Polydor a cut) it won't get heard. Vertigo, an Australian band I was in that went top 40 here, mainly in Victoria, Wêst Oz and South Oz, had two singles and an unreleased album through Gotham/BMG. You could probably get copies by contacting BMG Australia as they are still in the charts (under the name Invertigo with a different vocalist). Groove Sound and some of the newer stuff on MP3 I've recorded myself and own the rights to them so I'm happy for people to file share the MP3s etc because I just want people to hear and enjoy the music. I'd prefer to make no money and have heaps of people enjoying the music than make heaps to few ears. Instrumental is from an album I produced/arranged/played for Kathryn Prior who has a website where you can purchase her music. I'm not sure how to post a link but I'll find it and let you know. There are a few albums I produced for others in this situation. Re. The new songs, the option I do have is mastering all the new songs and doing a run of say 1000 copies. This would cost a couple of Gs for me though so I'm happy for you guys to have CD burns if you are. In the interim I'm looking around for a new manager/publisher/distributor at the moment as I'm now contractually free. As you can see it's all very complex, hence the avoidance of response. But now you know. (Whew) |
Actually I should have said co-own with regard to Groove sound. My very good friend who played the saxophone on it cowrote it with me. (oops)
|
Well, Yorick, tell your very good friend that I like the sax on that one very much!
I hope we aren't overwhelming you with all this...but I am exceedingly glad that so many people will hear your work! I will get around to emailing one of these days, too, but I figure you are pretty busy with your visiting and traveling just now! Cloudy |
