turbovee 02-04-2001 04:25 PM

here you go cloudbringer

Cloudbringer 02-04-2001 04:31 PM

Thank you! I'd kiss you if you weren't just text on my monitor !

I got the ip, will go see about starting up BG2. If I run into trouble , I'll be back.

Oh and Aragorn seems to have started another thread too- thanks for trying-even if we end up continuing it here, was very chivalrous of you to rescue this "maiden in distress"

Aragorn II 02-04-2001 04:33 PM

null sweat, just trying to help out -Strider

Cloudbringer 02-04-2001 04:39 PM

turbovee- I just tried to connect, it tells me the server is busy and can't accept players just now.

turbovee 02-04-2001 04:40 PM

I'm in a multi player game right now. I will wait for you to join and see if this works.

Charlie 02-04-2001 04:43 PM

It wouldn't allow me to connect. Now it has. I can type in Dialogue but see no evidence of other platers...???

Says server busy waiting to allow new players.

Cloudbringer 02-04-2001 05:44 PM

fyi, guys, I can't do the alt/tab thing without serious crashing of bg, so I won't be able to pop in here without leaving game, I think

got a fxvoodoo graphics card and play with accel set up- might be why it crashes, don't know.

CB

Gabriel 02-04-2001 10:17 PM

Just my luck, go of on a job hunt and miss everything. Is there any room left, if so what do i have to do? If not never mind.

"Hell Lich" Wah 02-04-2001 10:26 PM

Cheers Turbovee, I got the IP address!

Now, gimme a time and date for the thingy (considering that I'm in England)
and we'll get started, I'm sure that my knowledge of M-Player is not that bad!!

"Hell Lich" Wah 02-04-2001 10:29 PM

BTW Charlie, thanks for your detailed explaination of the IP thing.

Are we using gods or newly created characters.

In that case = can I export a newly created character now? So that I can import it into the M-player later?

Or is it a create-as-you-join-and-play kind of thing?

Sorry, this is my first time, never used m.player before and I just had my 4th cup of coffee today. (EEEEEK!!! It's 3.20am!! )

Charlie 02-05-2001 12:14 AM

Hey, guys.

Zoratorak.

What a helpful bloke you are, thanks.

The problem I had wasn't being in the game or anything, I could see everyone and interact. The problems started when there was a lot of info' on screen.... ie a battle with a few creatures and a couple of spells flying. My screen would "stop" (whether Turbovee and Cloudbringer were experiencing this I know not) and then when the info' level reduced I would suddenly come back to life. After the pc thought about things for a second or two it booted me into touch. My brother and I are in the same building and he allows me to share his 512K cable internet connection (via a bit of hush hush jiggery pokery) . The connection speed is not a problem at my end I'm sure. Although I haven't yet tried, my bro' is of the opinion that although I can connect out, people may have trouble connecting to me as he has put various firewalls in place to protect his own very large website and personal effects...understandably so. I may attempt a game with people connected to my end to see if it works ...if Turbo' and CB are willing. He (my bro') often plays flight sims on line with loads of other people (primarily American) and with untold info' on screen with no problems at all. It may just be the connection from mine to Turbovee's end that is the problem. What do you think Zor'?

Disabling 3D is a good idea and one I wouldn't have the foggiest how to do, the same as changing cache sizes. Anyone willing to give me the low down on this? It would be appreciated, yes I could ask bro' but it's unfair forever pestering him with my pc ineptitude problems....time I learnt a little for myself methinks.

Turbovee, Cloudbringer, if you're still up for it then perhaps we could try making the changes that Zoratorak has so kindly put forward and having another crack....possibly even connecting to this end. If this runs ok then we can look at other possibilities, if not...well we've lost an hour or so...big deal.

Come back to me on this guys and look after my boy for me........I miss my boy.

turbovee 02-05-2001 12:26 AM

Hell lich, Charlie and Gabriel. I really want to play with guys, but the Overseas connection is really bad. I live in San Diego and Charlie and I tried a multi game and he kept getting booted. I hate say this, but I recommend that you three guys there in England should set up a multi game so your connection will be stable.

Sorry guys, I want to play, but charlie sold me this shite connection. I would like to try m.player if any of you guys is still interested. maybe they can hold a game with a better connection.

Charlie 02-05-2001 12:26 AM

"Hell Lich" Wah.

I would love for you to take part mate but as it stands connection prob's etc render this impossible in the game Turbovee, Cloudbringer and myself started. I tried to get in here to talk to you last night but couldn't. I was going to suggest an English game to you but I don't think an international game is an impossibility and haven't ruled it out completely. I'd like you, if poss' to be part of that. As it stands we need to get the MP prob's ironed out and familiarise ourselves with the why's and wherefores of what is going on. If an International game is an impossibility for the likes of yourself and I then we'll start our own English/British game and go plundering and pillaging with as many plunderers and pillagers as want to join.

Aragorn II 02-05-2001 12:34 AM

Hey turbovee, if things dont pan out on mplayer we should get a north american game up. im east coast so there'll be about a 3 hour difference i suppose. throw up a new NA Mplayer post if you want to try and get a team assembled. -Strider

Cloudbringer 02-05-2001 12:38 AM

turbovee,

If they can get to Mplayer and it works, I'm willing to try it. I feel bad that Charlie started the whole thread and we couldn't work it out. I'm willing to give the ip another try next week- so's Charlie. email us?

Or we can try M-player. I'm sure I can figure it out sometime in the next century, anyway!

turbovee 02-05-2001 12:39 AM

Hey I'm down with that. I've got cloudbringer in right now and I was looking for one more. I don't want to get more than three, because the NPC quest are too hard to do with more than three PCs. Plus trust me it bogs down the game with eveyone trying to type in dialogue and deciding what to do.

turbovee 02-05-2001 12:42 AM

Cloudbringer: did you get my e-mail? I would like to try the ip thing to see how your video worked out with those changes. I want to get with you tomorrow answer me back on my e-mail.

turbovee 02-05-2001 12:45 AM

Hey charlie just woke up. Do you want to try the ip thing again? or do you want to do m.player?

Cloudbringer 02-05-2001 12:50 AM

turbovee, just emailed you. For some reason my filter isn't catching your mail and I have been having to sift through one of lists (the largest one, unfortunately!) where anything not filter ends up

I'll work on the filter tomorrow.

Cloudbringer 02-05-2001 12:53 AM

Charlie, I'm still game to try either ip or mplayer (shudder)...whatever you like.

I've disabled 3D. But I should point out that I had trouble with single games slowing up on me (mouse and cursor had definite time lag in communication) at those crucial times that Charlie mentioned (lots of info/action) before I enabled the 3D to start with. I thought it was just a memory prob (I have 128mb ram, 21g hd). Then I found that periodically quitting and re-starting cleared up memory (Moiraine suggested it, I think) and I wasn't having the problem any more.

Oh and yes, Charlie, I did experience the slow downs. Sometimes I couldn't get the darned cursor into the dialog box to type- so you got the 'silent treatment' while I fumed at my monitor and mouse

I wonder if it might also have had something to do with all our pause settings. Should they be the same? Should we minimize the pauses? Zoratorak, any input on this is very welcome!

Cache speed, I might have thought of that...someday! Can we change that in config? I'll look- what should it be set at?

I also have real trouble when I minimize the game in anyway. When I try to maximize again, "Pixel format failure" warning comes up with a lovely black screen and I can HEAR things fine, can't SEE anything.

turbovee 02-05-2001 12:57 AM

Cloudbringer: Yes cache size has quite abit to do with it. I've got a game up right noe if your game. We can try this again. try setting your cache size to 400 and then we'll try more if you still have problems

Zoratorak 02-05-2001 02:51 AM

hmm... i see there is some problems with you guys on multiplayer... need help??

1) Charlie- you noticed that you are in a screen wherein it is like a multiplayer game right?? and you noticed that there is noone in the screen... it could be that the host has a slow internet connections so your having problems downloading the information needed to see his characters... or ... he is still loading his game..(or making a newone) so you were able to connect to him while he is still loading a new game ... you will just have to wait for him to type to let you guys know that he is there... i had a similar problem before...

2)Cloudbringer- why dont you lower the specs for your video card?? the 3d-accelerator doesnt make any major differences only minor and it takes up a whole bunch of memory and speed of your computer...

3) make sure all of you guys have the same cache speed in multiplayer...

4) if the server is busy.. just keep trying to get in... (i had to try 4-5 times before i got in) ... but if you tried already the 10-15th time... then im sure you have the common sense to figure that out...
ps: sorry guys for replying just now... but im livin on a different time level...

Aragorn II 02-05-2001 03:03 AM

hey turbovee, im geting a new email add through my isp tomorrow and once i do ill post it on this board or send it or something. once you figure out what the low-down is on the mplayer game just drop me a line. hope things are going well i look forward to playing with you soon. -Strider

Aragorn II 02-05-2001 03:05 AM

Almost forgot turbovee, we really havent been properly introduced...you guys can just call me strider if its easier to type. its a pleasure to meet you, (you too cloudbringer ) -Strider

Cloudbringer 02-05-2001 09:41 AM

Hey Strider! Nice to meet you. (that was one of my fav Tolkein characters, btw)

I'm off for a few hours, but will check back around one (east coast).

Cloudbringer 02-05-2001 09:42 AM

Zoratorak, thanks for the info. I'm going to go change my config settings before we try again.

"Hell Lich" Wah 02-05-2001 10:48 AM

*Sigh* Okay turbovee, I'll see what charlie has to say about this, maybe I'll check out that mplayer thing like you said or maybe charlie has better ideas then.

Thanks anyway - Wah

Hesperex 02-08-2001 06:29 PM

I would very much like to a part of any English games going on, but I fear that my puney 56k connection would just reck the game for all concerned so I'll let fellow English Bg2 fanatics know when I get my 512k cable connection, should be in about 3 months. Realy depends on how fast I can get some spare! money (hey Im only a student)and how fast Telewest get off their arses
