Suul-Yinn 02-03-2001 12:37 AM

I remember my first post and thinking 'I wonder if they will think me a fool for asking such a basic question?' Luckily Armisael answered my plee for help promptly, curteously and accurately (thanks again) and I felt part of the community. However, it wasn't until somebody thanked me for my help in answering their question that I felt I had truly arrived.

Moiraine 02-03-2001 05:10 AM

Just wondering when you old friends stopped feeling you were newbies on this board, and why ?

And, newcomers, feel free to comment !

I myself stopped feeling a newbie when I had that car crash and so many people I didn't know existed told me that they read my posts and liked them ! And that made me feel very warm inside ... enough that, although I am generally very attached to objects, I don't regret my car at all !

Memnoch 02-03-2001 05:18 AM

I stopped feeling like a newbie when someone posted a thread titled "Does Memnoch have any other hobbies?" That was about two months ago and made me realize that people were actually remembering all my posts!

fighter-thief 02-03-2001 06:56 AM

i still don't know if i'm considered a newbie or not ,i just enjoy everyones company .this is the only place i can talk about a game that i enjoy and have such interesting conversations so ,i'm counting on you all to tell me if i'm still a newbie or not

el_kalkylus 02-03-2001 07:02 AM

I stopped feeling like a newbie when I had posted about 10 posts, and had finnished the game. After reading a lot of posts, I know a lot about this game, and a little about the off-topic-people. This board is getting more like a chat-forum, but I like it.

Rikard T'Aranaxz 02-03-2001 07:08 AM

Damn i've been here for 6 months and i still feel like a newbie
no seriously
the first time i didn't really feel like a newbie was
ehm when they started replying on me
and ofcourse when the Clan started 5 months ago

Another example Moiraine, all we need to do is make sure people know there's an off topic forum they can go to when they want to get involved in off topic discussion and they will visit to have a chat. It's like a bookstore, there's sections for each genre (fantasy, fiction, biographies, etc), then there's a cafe in the middle of the store where people can talk about anything! Please trust me when I say this will work!

Zoratorak 02-03-2001 08:14 AM

lets see... now i feel the same way with el_kalkylus... i stopped feeling a newbie since i have finished the game and just dedicated myslef to just helpin out people... sometimes i feel left out sometimes im like a ghost... but sometimes i have lots of friends... it makes me feel i have real life here...

ps: warning to all that dont forget that your real life is outside of this computer...

Memnoch 02-03-2001 08:26 AM

Zor, pare, how can you feel left out?? You've been here even before me!

Moiraine 02-03-2001 08:38 AM

Zor, why, our real life is partly here, are we not real people ?!?

Zenith 02-03-2001 08:57 AM

When I was able to really help someone. Of course, then I went on vacation for a few weeks and felt newbie-ish all over again when I finally returned.

Father Bronze 02-03-2001 10:53 AM

When I finished the game and was able to help someone else. I got this really giddy feeling thinking -- "Oooh I know the answer to that one . . . (type, type, type really fast) . . . Cool!"

I also felt "recognized" when Rikard and I had a polite discussion over signatures. It was nice to know that my opinion was heard and that the ensuing discussions were so pleasant.

Oh, and I can't forget the moment when I figured out how to do and when it was revealed to me what LOL means. I'm still trying to figure out BTW though -- so I guess I still have my Newbie moments.

fighter-thief 02-03-2001 10:56 AM

BTW=by the way

Father Bronze 02-03-2001 11:01 AM

Ahh . . . It's all clear to me now . . .

fighter-thief 02-03-2001 11:06 AM

my life is but to serve my'lord anything else, you have but to ask

Lord of Alcohol 02-03-2001 11:16 AM

I guess I stopped feeling like a newbie when I asked a question about adamantite golems and got LOTS of help. Now I try to help when I can, although I find that the question has been already answered most of the time so I enjoy making an idiot of myself on the off-topic things. BTW, if someone hasnt gone to Charlies Store, stuff is selling fast. You gotta go! I'm still laughing

Moridin 02-03-2001 11:32 AM

Just today I am starting to feel "not" like a newbie (how exactly would you phrase that? ) I just visited Charlies Store of Complete Shite and found a reply for my inquiry into the light gem and golem building book. I am starting to feel at home here on this forum. Sometimes I feel like I need to post and post and post to get my name out there and be recognized, but often I feel myself just reading and enjoying and throwing in bits of worthless rabble once in awhile. Thanks everyone for making myself feel welcome and for making this a great place to call my home away from home! )

Moiraine 02-03-2001 01:24 PM

Hi, Suul-Yinn !

Where were you ? We missed you, mate !!!

Especially since I had finally manage to spell your pseudo right ...

Suul-Yinn 02-03-2001 02:02 PM

Hi Moiraine, missed you all too!!! See my post for a feeble excuse! I have also changed branch recently, so I was busy finishing off all the loose ends and it was sale time. Playing and finishing Deus Ex also ate into my free time, but since I've moved, my travel time to work has been reduced by an hour so I can spend more time with my friends. I have a LOT of catching up to do it seems. So many new members! God this game is big.
Chat to you again soon as I am taking my wife out for a meal to-night.

Jon the Hell Caster 02-03-2001 02:26 PM

Ah......... this goes back for a long time but basicly when the first "To Jon the Hell Caster" topic came out. ( The second was a complain about how a kit at www.gis.net/~yos wasn't working)

"Hell Lich" Wah 02-03-2001 03:59 PM

Ahhh.............This takes me back . I felt like a newbie no more when I did a really massive and funny post called powerful magic. All of us made loads of comments and we even gave that flamer a kick in the front teeth together!
Also don't forget Melusine always arguing with me, and our stories that was a real blast!

BTW where is Melusine? Looks like she was eaten by Pit Fiends (LOL)

BLACK KNIGHT 02-03-2001 04:05 PM

When I started to comeback more for the great conversations and off topic posts rather than tips.

When I started feeling like I was missing out on something when I couldn't login.

When I got a post directed at me.

When I had my first Flame and people backed me up.

When I mentioned that I had a bad day and the post went off topic and I had 5 different people ask what was up.

I've only been on the sign as a poster and not a lurker for a month now. I didn't feel so much like a newbie as much as I felt like a new friend.

BK

Sylent 02-03-2001 06:17 PM

I guess I still feel like a newbie, but anyway...
I just enjoy reading the posts, and laughing, and chatting!
Also, I found some of my earlier "newbie" questions were accepted, and it was good to reply to a newbie question when I knew the answer...

Ladyzekke 02-03-2001 06:58 PM

I no longer felt like a newbie when I mentioned how awkward and apprehensive I felt about being welcome on this board, and got many warmhearted responses! It was like standing outside looking into a house party full of strangers, and having the front door open and welcoming smiles waving me in!

Moiraine - I'm so glad to know that Yorick's thread about your car crash made you feel welcome. I remember I posted on that one, even though I hadn't spoken to you before and really had no idea what exactly he was talking about!

Memnoch - you are the first person I noticed when I first came aboard. You answered my very first question and I always noticed your cool Djinni! I remember you welcomed me saying "ladies are always welcome here" and put in a little pic of 3 women striding! I thought to myself, hey, he did that for me! BTW, are you reading those books yet? I have another one in continuation to the series, and now am wondering if I should send it to Yorick or you?

SUUL-YINN - Hello! Hey, I missed you! Thought you had gone away for good, I'm glad that wasn't the case. I'll never forget how you spoiled me re Yoshimo! You really helped me out a LOT! You were also the first person I think I went off topic with. How have you and your wife been? You must have come back to this Board because your ears were burning. Just the other day Yorick asked me "Hey, where did your buddy Suul-Yinn go"?

Gabriel 02-03-2001 11:31 PM

Stopped feeling newbieish when i returned to my old name, but then posted probably the most unhelpful thing i ever could of done under my real name now i feel more newbieish then ever.

Aragorn II 02-04-2001 12:13 AM

heh...just thought the title to this was amusing....

"what made you stop feeling a newbie?"

sorry guys...mind is in the gutter...

Armisael 02-04-2001 12:18 AM

You too, eh?

Ladyzekke 02-04-2001 12:30 AM

Uh, now I'm confused. Memnoch, Yorick, which address should I send to?? I'm getting two different answers here!

Bahamut 02-04-2001 12:50 AM

Well, to be honest ever since I made this post bout something and it soared to plus 50 posts... I t made me feel that I am an entity in this board that is worth reading... now talking bout books, I think Im gonna finish Hannibal first before swan song... and ladyzekke is the same as me... going off topic!

Yorick 02-04-2001 12:52 AM

If you send them to Memnoch he'll be able to read them while I'm away.... b'but I may never see them

Aragorn II 02-04-2001 12:55 AM

yeah, tends to happen this time of night...or morning...or whatever it is

Memnoch 02-04-2001 01:25 AM

Zekke, love to get it, as you know Y is traipsing around Europe at the moment and won't be back for about 10 weeks (though he will be checking in from time to time). Email me at mestacio@one.net.au and let me know how you sent all this stuff to him (I'd rather not give out my address on the board )

Lucre 02-04-2001 07:24 AM

When reglars answered my questions like Rikard and Moirane and Memnoch.
I still feel a little like a newbie though.

Yorick 02-04-2001 07:32 AM

Ladyzekke,
SEND, SEND!! (Same address, they'll hold them for me)

Ladyzekke 02-04-2001 01:21 PM

Gee thanks for settling that one for me Yorick! Now I'm even more confused! Whats with the widdle sad face bit? Hey, I didn't tell you to start handing Memnoch your book booty like so much candy! (hehe, just ribbing ya!). ANYWHO, the aforementioned book is I think book 5 in the series and thus wouldn't be of much interest to you until you have read the first 4. So now whadaya say?

Yorick 02-04-2001 01:28 PM

hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe Sounds like insurance to me...

Ladyzekke 02-04-2001 01:34 PM

OOOOOK then. Uh huh. Uh huh. Yeah. Uh huh. OK. Mmmhmm...
Just exactly how long have you been in that Cafe there Yorick?

Zoratorak 02-04-2001 03:46 PM

yech!!! man... i really have a different time setting from all of you guys

anyway to answer your question Memnoch... (sorry for being late)

hey waita minute... your the one who was here before me Memnoch... (well your other login name anyway)

reasons for being left out (sometimes )
- you guys are all kinda old... (but young at heart ) and you guys (sometimes) discuss somethings that only your guys understand...
- different time setting give me a late update on everything
- cant chat with you guys as much (have school you know)

yo moriane...
dont forget your lives outside too you know... its just as important here..

Memnoch 02-04-2001 11:30 PM

Ehm

*looks around furtively*

(low whisper to Zekke)
I thought I would...kind of...you know...keep the books in safekeeping for Yorick, you know?? While he's travelling and all...

*breaks into a fit of coughing*

Ladyzekke 02-05-2001 12:30 AM

Memnoch, no problem. I'll e-mail you so you can give me an address to sent it to. Hope you enjoy them!
ps - I'm jealous, no poem for Ladyzekke
