Azuth 02-02-2001 08:58 PM

I have been taking a back seat for a while, and I've noticed that some newbies are being left out. Converstaions between the regulars and refences to thing from perivous posts are leving people out in the cold. So i made this thread, to allow the newbies who wish to get to know each other, to do so, and so i leave you now to mix, mingle and congregate.

Ladyzekke 02-02-2001 09:29 PM

Azuth - This is a good thread! But please feel free to join in any of the "regulars" conversations as well, even if you don't "get" what we are talking about, many will fill you in. You will receive a warm welcome I assure you!

Malla Gabriel 02-02-2001 09:33 PM

sorry wrong thread. boy i feel dumb now.

Azuth 02-02-2001 09:41 PM

Thank you LadyZekke but no, last time I did I annoyed some by speaking stupidly. I'll just stick to reading and helpping people when I can.

Armisael 02-02-2001 09:50 PM

I annoy people far more than you ever will, Azuth mate. Shaddap and join in. : )

Azuth 02-02-2001 09:54 PM

Ask Yorick that, i mean i really annoyed him and so i will remain in the background. for now.

Ladyzekke 02-02-2001 10:14 PM

Hey, Azuth, Yorick is a friend of mine and I know I have disagreed with him before as well. Nothing wrong with friends having a disagreement, as long as you stay friends. And Yorick would be the first person to agree with me on this. Anyway, think on this, he is but one person in a huge array of people with different personalities on this board. Don't let one person dissuade you please. Try another dive in, don't dwindle in the background, I swear, you will not be dissappointed!

Memnoch 02-02-2001 10:40 PM

Azuth, Yorick came around to my place for a drink before he left and we actually had a talk about you. He actually felt pretty bad about flaming you. Don't worry, the only thing that annoys me are trolls, flamers and spammers. Everything else, i don't care about!

Memnoch 02-02-2001 10:50 PM

As a veteran member (all of 3 months!!) I just wanted to make a statement to all the newbies: feel welcome to join in on any thread! There’s no such thing as a ‘veterans’ thread and a ‘newbies’ thread. People are probably sick of me saying this, but newbies are treated exactly the same as veterans here. It’s just that some people have gotten to know some other people on the board a bit better and they may carry on some offtopic conversation in the threads, but it doesn’t mean than others are unwelcome to join in! As ladyzekke said, the more the merrier. It wasn’t so long ago that zekke was a newbie who felt like she wanted to be in the background. I was the same when I started. We want to strengthen bonds between members of this community while not creating the impression that others are unwelcome, ok?

turbovee 02-02-2001 10:58 PM

I know how I felt being the newbie all of a couple of months ago. Even though I wasn't posting right away, I read and eventually wormed my way into the mix. Read "50 ways to torture Anomen" if you have any worries about possbly upsetting someone. What turned into me trying to be funny really unnerved some folks. After a long string of conversation it got resolved and we learned a little more about each other in the process.

SirGwayne 02-02-2001 11:15 PM

Well,I'm new here and I am curiouse how do you guys post those gif's.I have been frequenting Ice Wind Dale.as of lately, but am playing both games.just starting BGII over again.I'm kinda into graphics and a little side art work as well. those animated Gif's are just to coooool!

.... 02-02-2001 11:25 PM

I'l just like to say that while i've been here, i joinned in with the polls and given advice but while the people i help have given friendly replies, i do feel left out when i post a reply and it just goes under with the posts everyones puts up talking to each other.

Azuth 02-02-2001 11:39 PM

SirGwayne if you mean the signature creatures, people have taken them from the game using Infinity Explorer, which you can get from thw IronWorks site the looped them with a gif editor. mind you i think they need to be put on a web page, i'm not sure about the last part, why i never made myself one. You can get a gif editor, if you don't have one, one a thread on page 11 by Gabriel. This is where i pick up this infomation.

Cloudbringer 02-02-2001 11:48 PM

Well as a total newbie who posts too much, no doubt, I can say I've been welcomed by lots of people I'm figuring are "old timers" and have got plenty of good tips on the game from new and old alike.

My advice is to jump in and get your feet wet, worst thing that can happen is you disagree with someone. It happens, but so far I have noticed a remarkable degree of tolerance on this board. Reminds me of a private email list I'm on, that was born of a newsgroup split 4 years ago. I've met half of those people in person. And while I may not be 'best buddies' with a good number of them, we all agree that we like our list enough not to let any disagreements keep us from posting. Even the one member who left in a huff, came back and was welcomed by all.

I have a feeling this board is going to be very much like that list. Hell, I've been "missing" from that list for a week now and they all think I've been kidnapped-had to tell one concerned person who emailed me at work, that I'm just hanging out in Amn for a while! Anyone working on that spell to give me a week of Saturdays? I sure could use it now!!!

Moiraine 02-03-2001 12:26 AM

A small word from a very recent ex-newbie :

This board is definitely victim of its own success ! I post mostly from work, and a bit at home for about one hour or two every day. I can't for the life of me find enough time to reply to 5% of the posts I would like to ! My point is, so many really nice people talk on this board, so if some posts don't get answers, it may simply be because we had to make a (very hard) choice, is all.

So, all newbies, even if we don't tell you, we welcome you all with happiness (if you are not trolls, of course )

Yorick 02-03-2001 12:58 AM

Azuth, you're not a newbie you're an oldie with a past and if you ever stop posting or don't reply because of our little kerfuffle I shall come round to your work when I'm in the old dart AND BUY YOU A DRINK OR TWO!

Let me say this to any 'Newbie' who is reading.

DON'T EVER BE AFRAID OF PISSING ME OFF. BETTER TO RISK DISAGREEMENT AND FOR US ALL TO HAVE A HEARTY DEBATE THAN FOR YOU TO REMAIN SILENT.

I look forward to hearing from you Archlich Azuth.

Azuth 02-03-2001 01:25 AM

Yorick, I've never been away, I done alot of thinking since our last converstaion and have changed my ways.
I just reallised that i created this thread so new comers could meet and make friends with out the overseers ( regulars, but i could resist the joke.) but I've caused this to be reverse of what it was and had a conversation about my past.
Yorick, i think you made a mistake in your last post, at least i hope it was?
Vendui'

Yorick 02-03-2001 01:37 AM

Uh oh, w'what mistake... 'Archlich'? or the buy you a drink bit? The old dart? Kerfuffle? Help me! w'what mistake Azuth?

Azuth 02-03-2001 01:41 AM

Sorry but you said that if i ever stop posting or don't reply you buy me a drink.

Armisael 02-03-2001 01:48 AM

I think he meant 'buy you a drink and then kick your arse'.

Azuth 02-03-2001 01:59 AM

Armisael, your probaly right.
Yorick, when are you comming to this green isle.

Yorick 02-03-2001 02:01 AM

I meant I'd buy you a drink to show you I don't want you to stop posting, and that even though I may write strongly and aggressively I am a friendly open Aussie musician with a big laugh and a quick smile, that wouldn't want to hurt anyone. I have an active mind, and as writing is mind to mind, can tend to use a sledgehammer to make a point. I am passionate and can get defensive about certain things but in my lucid moments would wish no offense to anyone. (This can change after no sleep and dealing with frustrating musicians or the like)

If after the drink you still didn't post, like Armisael said I would kick your arse!

Pardon my ignorance but what does Vendui' mean BTW?

Azuth 02-03-2001 02:07 AM

I'm not surpised you don't know the word, its drowish and means.....hello? BLAST! i meant Aluve' which is goodbye.

Azuth 02-03-2001 02:29 AM

Yorick, you mention comming to this green isle, may i ask when and where are you going?

Yorick 02-03-2001 02:39 AM

In about a week or so I'm flying out of Singapore and heading for Europe/Britain. I'm just going to have a wander around.. "go walkabout" as the Aboriginies call it.

Hey, I noticed you managed to change a post AFTER IT WAS POSTED!!!! Am I going nuts? How did you do that? I thought it was impossible!

I swear I read:
"Armisael, your probaly right."

I replied, and then after your two other posts read:
"Armisael, your probaly right.
Yorick, when are you comming to this green isle."

How did that happen?

Azuth 02-03-2001 02:50 AM

I don't know when i sent that post my computer mess up and i had to retype it, mind you there been odd thing happening resently, 4 post of the same stuff, double posts with over 40 minuntes between them and a reply apeering between a double post. Hope we get that new board soon this one on the way out.

When your in England perhaps some of the people on the board could get together, i think Charlie live in London.

Gabriel, I can imagine how you feel, sometimes the board might feel kind of cliquey, that's because certain people know each other on this board and have started to discuss non-BG related things. It doesn't mean that they don't welcome your input or involvement. The board is not cliquey at all. If you want to get involved in a non-BG2 related thread, just introduce yourself, and you're on your way there. NOBODY gets turned away or shit on here!!

Malla Gabriel 02-03-2001 03:05 AM

Memnoch thank but I do take part in none BG topics, I been here since 01/20/2001 and have done 155 posts but I seem to be past over on them.
Oh and thanks for putting my name on it I was trying to be anonymous.

Memnoch 02-03-2001 03:11 AM

D'oh! Sorry...

Yorick 02-03-2001 03:45 AM

I wondered who ... was (LOL). Oh well Gabriel anyone can check the real sender using the little diagram near the topic. Remember Ioryche the femme and Silramae the woman?

Azuth that'd be a blast. I'll let you guys know when I hit ol' blighty.

WOLFGIR 02-03-2001 04:28 AM

Hi Azuth, I know how you feel friend though I have been here for awhile I do feel like a Newbie.
Not that the folks around here are unfriendly! No way,i have received alot of help a friendly suggestions, it´s just tha I don´t know anyone only of their Nick and nothing more, it is a bit secluded here in the north..

However I don´t think that you should feel left out of the conversations or any threads, it is not the meaning and the purpose, and eventfully you will find answers to you questions. Memnoch ( a great dude who says he dislikes all the good in the BG is somehow the good fellow together with Armisael they are on a quest to help all! (thanks alot guys for all the help!))

Well this thread may be a good one, cause an introduction for newbies is good, and a good way to know each other and well ome of the "veterans" have been here too!

So good luck, and well you can´t like em all can you?

Donut (Son of Donut) 02-03-2001 05:56 AM

Yorick

If your walkabout takes you to Enfield in North London you might like to pop in here: www.wheatsheaf.freeserve.co.uk
I spend far too much time there myself. The barmaid in the picture is from Melbourne.

The Corinthian 02-03-2001 06:07 AM

Hey,
as a newbie I'd like to say that everyones been pretty cool so far,and a great help whenever I ask any questions-most of them quite stupid .This games got me by the neck and is cutting into a huge proportion of my counterstrike time *sigh*, not to mention social time. But I dont grudge the time a bit-it is so worth it!Returning to the thread, occasionally I feel disinclined to join in a thread when a whole lot of vets are on, but thats cool and probably to be expected.
I"ll probably wade in anyway with my foot in my mouth sooner rather than later.see you all around !

Zoratorak 02-03-2001 07:21 AM

hmm... all i can really say is... WELCOME ALL NEWBIES!!!! THIS BOARD IS THE BEST!!!

Rikard T'Aranaxz 02-03-2001 07:40 AM

Yes the True members of the Board will never flame you (maybe blue flame you and make you loose your hairs)

JOIN
THE MORE THE MARRIER

bigman 02-03-2001 07:48 AM

...i have felt hesitant to jump in on some threads for all the reasons the other good posters have already stated...so I am happy to know I am not alone...sometimes I put up a post and no one replies and then you look and the surrounding posts are basic chat room stuff...you guys rock...you will be hearing from the bigman in the future; I love helping people out if I can.

bigman

Memnoch 02-03-2001 07:59 AM

*sigh*

bigman, I was kind of worried this might happen. Nobody feel threatened to join any of the threads, off topic or otherwise ok? Believe me when i say that most of the 'regulars' that post were all newbies a month or so ago, who decided to join in on these off topic threads and got to know everyone better as a result which is the best thing about this board - people have gotten to KNOW each other, so they stay even after they've finished the game. The more the merrier. Just don't forget to answer the game questions if you know the answers ok? We look forward to hearing from you in the future!

fighter-thief 02-03-2001 08:02 AM

hello
i just wanted to say that i'm in limbo as for my newbie or not but i do everyday look back through ten pages and look for unanswered topics because i want everyone to go away happy with an idea to the question i sit here for 7 hours trying to help those who don't know and don't get upset at these "vets"just because the go off topic just remember this they didn't have a panel to help them when they started out that's why new people come along and want to help everyone i give the best answer i can think of and i like to follow up with the same people and see if it worked and if it didn't then i'll go back to the drawing board i care about you and want you to get a "good feeling about this" as Jaheira would say

Memnoch 02-03-2001 08:05 AM

Perfectly said fighter-thief! I'd love for everyone to be able to become comfortable with each other and everyone else here. Just remember that what goes around comes around, so if you do a good deed for someone someone will do the same for you, and you brought a smile to someone's face! Good on you!

Zenith 02-03-2001 09:13 AM

Greetings all! Newbie is a state of mind, right? I've been here on and off for close to 3 months and can still feel bewildered. But I could also change my name and pretend to be someone else and none would really know the diff, would they? I could really piss people off one week then come back the next as the sweetest gal in 40 counties (not that I have ). I love this board for the fact that many people have strong opinions and aren't afraid to voice them, it keeps the board interesting! So, speak up all and keep us on our toes!
