I think a +5 two handed sword usable by a good aligned character is a good idea. I don't understand all the "to hit" blah blah, but I'm sure a +5 is better than a +3 or a +4. Is there a +4 2H sword available in the game?
I was pig sick when I couldn't use Carsomyr which is +5...only usable by tight fisted Paladins...bang out of order. As for the extra attack, hmmm, big heavy weapon and I'm not too sure about that. Extra attacks are ok for light/ish weapons imo but otherwise I think you should only really gain that advantage with proficiency which is where you need to make your judgement calls. My blokes already got 5 stars in 2h swords and with improved haste gets 9 attacks (per round?) I didn't know you guys made new items for the game. Nice of you to spend the time....appreciated. |
the only thing i see wrong is the weapons are evil in make and the game is driven on the road of goodness how about some "good" long swords or katanas.just a thought
|
in Ravenloft stuff is EVIL! Read some info on it and you will see.
|
I suggest making weapons for those classes of weapons that have been duds in the game:
Bastard swords, Maces, Scimitars/ninja-to's, Clubs, Short swords, Long bows, Crossbows (heavy crossbow of speed in Icewind Dale) and to a lesser degree Long swords, Besides the bows and maybe short swords, none of these classes have a +4 weapon, and only a marginal +3 weapon. |
ignorance is bliss ,i didn't realize that you had planed to do this in Ravenloft [ my hero Lord Soth ]visited there, but anyways now the fog has been lifted from my mind i seem to recall that's where you had planed this exspansion to be held , then by all means make them as strong as possiable we are talking about a place where nightmares are born but would it make sense that the good alignment type weapons would work better ?? kinda like the theory of fight evil with good clash
|
OK everyone, I put this 2H sword together, I want to know if people think it's too powerful and will unbalance the game. If everyone is OK with it, I'll submit it to Jon for his add-on.
Also, what do you think of the history?? I had to look up a couple of Ravenloft online modules to get the background. Dark Gift:Maharet This ghastly two-handed sword radiates foul evil and will burn the flesh of any of pure heart who try to wield it. It is a weapon from the shadowy realm of Ravenloft. Dark legends abound that the blade is imbued with the essence of the ancient vampire Maharet, the former Darklord of Barovia. Maharet was destroyed in an epic battle with the new Lord of Ravenloft, Count Strahd von Zarovich. It is rumored that Strahd, through dark, blood-tainted rites, was able to imbue his blade with Maharet's essence. Maharet is a vampiric blade which drains the life and strength from opponents. When wielded in combat the obsidian blade glows a malevolent blood-red, causing all who view it to flee in panic. It moves with unnatural speed for a weapon of its size, allowing its wielder an extra attack each round. STATISTICS Combat Abilities: Each hit has a 50% chance of draining 2 levels from an opponent. Gives +1 extra attack per round. Each round target must save vs. spells or flee in horror THAC0: +5 bonus Damage: 1D10 +5 Damage type: slashing Weight: 10 Speed Factor: 1 Proficiency Type: Two handed sword Type: 2-handed Requires: 13 Strength Not Usable By: Druid Cleric Mage Thief Good characters |
It's only too strong if you are playing on an easy setting. If you was playing it on insane it would be good.
|
Hmm, keep in mind he's supposedly putting in some pretty tough monsters in it, like dracoliches etc.
|
Dracoliches aye, I think strong weapons will be needed.
|
It seems a bit too powerful. This is significantly more powerful than the black razor and a grandmaster in katanas would toss away the celestial fury to wield it if they were only barely proficient in two-handed swords. Perhaps if you had something that discouraged it from being used all the time, like if it reduced strength or constitution by a few points, or had a chance on a hit the wielder would become diseased, or blinded. Then players would only use it on the tougher encounters. If indeed it eminates evil then even an evil wielder would tremble holding it in his hands.
I also note the speed factor of 1 is another thing to reconsider. Someone with just one point on two-handed weapon style will get an additional attack. While one handed weapons can have their speeds reduced by 1 at the most through weapon mastery, two handed wielders can reduce speeds by up to 5. When a weapon skill drops to 0 and each point below you get either an additional 1/2 or 1 attack. This might add an extra 2 (or 4, not sure exactly) attacks on top of the extra attack, or at least 5 attacks per round--far too many for anyone wielding a two hander. The speed should be 5 or higher. |
Yeah, despite whatever new monsters you might come across, you don't want to make every other in the weapon seem worthless. Give it a 15 - 25% on the level drain, speed factor of about six, take away the extra attack, and make it cast vampiric touch three times per day. Hell, it's already doing 1d10+5 damage...
|
Thanks for all the feedback guys, i thought it might be a bit overkill. I might get rid of that extra attack, and maybe replace the horror effect with vampiric touch or something.
|
No keep the extra attack it is a good idea. As to removing the horror effect that is a good idea.
|
i made weapons myself but i need someone to make it
Jaize +4 Immunitie to level drain sucks damage done to wielder of the weapons who regenarates of it 1d8+2 damage Thac0+4 damage type slashing weigt 12 speed factor 3 prof: long sword usualble by Necromancer Ramanish - The Psycotic Dreamer+3 Feeblemind upon hit mem. two xtra L9 spells and one xtra L8 spell 1d8+3 damage Thac0 +3 speedfactor 2 weight 12 prof long sword slashing usualbe by all (inc mages) overkill or not? |
Ramanish is a bit overkill, the other one seems ok - special mage weapon only?
I can put them together for you if you like, just don't expect them back till the weekend |
hm wait Ramanish is even more overkill
it adds +1 int anyways both weapons should be long swords usuable by mages but with Jaize (Jay C - Jay Zee - Jaize) has a lot of Necromatic things |
Yeah memnoch if you WANT to make then Do so please
BTW the xtra spell memorizing of Ramanish can be removed |
Secret Agent Jay C Mendez, finder of all peoples lost, smiter of all things evil, wearer of all clothes stylish!! Do you want the weapons to be usable by mages? if you do tell me.
|
mw two cents worth how about a good warhammer i would like to see that and as for the weapons good idea that they are alot more powerful so that they would be linear with the dracoliches. from what i read in the monster manual these are the worst thing to live with mortals these things are like the two hardest creatures combined! so in closing "keep it real"
|
Um, fighter-thief, there's already a good warhammer, it's called the Crom Faeyr. Probably the best weapon in the game.
Hmm, but there's not really anything other than that, eh? For people that want to dual-wield hammers. Let me think about this. |
that my friend is what i had meant so unless you cheat then you are limited to just that and more than one Crom Faeyr is not needed it's a big overkill
|
Memnoch, I think the weapon is a good one, you kept the balance well two make this a truly double eged sword, however, what are the disadvatages except alignment and class requirements?
I have 2 new weapons I made up after playing alot of Planescape as well as playing a real kick ass pen and paper campaign in a "new" DoD world. Celestial Tear This sling seems to be woven in the purest of silk with silver threads, it is radiating goodness round it. itīs supposed to have belonged to a famous demon huntress who ventured into different worlds and planes to hunt renegade demons. After being saved by a not to coopertaive halfling rouge the sling was taken to the temple of Yondalla and was after a couple of years stolen and since then lost. Statistics Combat abilities. While equiped protection against evil, imune to horror and all fear attacks, checks There is a 25% chance when hitting an evil creature that a holy hammer strikes the opponent dealing out 3D8. ThacO: +5 Damage: D6+5 D-Type: Blunt damage type (donīt remember the correct word) Weight: - Speed Factor: 1 Profiency: Slings Type: 1 handed Requires: 15 dex Not usuable by: Any evil or other non good alignment. Blood Oath This broadsword has a grey blade and red handle. Its origin is unknown but believed to come from one of the more chaotic planes. The sword has a demon bound in it (yeah thats original ) and this makes the sword sometimes difficult to handle. Each time drawn you must win a contest against the Demon or attack closest lifeform. (Int vs Char((1 If the user wins five in a row you donīr need more checks, but the sword may if not used regulary the blade can call out for a nother wielder that will seek out the blade. The sword has no real alignnment excet being referred to as chaotic. if the blade however wins five in a row, the wielder is cursed with a eternal rage and attacks everything he sees (usually leads to another wielder) can only be cured by remove curse or wish or similiar. Statistics Immune to fear, sleep and all mind based spells (feeble minded, control person etc) A 15% chance upon every hit to deal out triple damage (x3) The weapon is considered a +5 weapon upon determing damage and tohit creatures. ThacO: +2 (hard to control the blade) Damage: 2D6+4 Damage type: slashing Weight: 8 Speed factor: 1 (If combat won over demon to full control one extra attack is granted) Type: 1h Requires: 10 strength Not usuable by: - (all can use due to the nature of this sword except persons with an int lower than 7 that will be consumed by the Demon automaticly. |
hmmmm... sounds good just change the flee in horror ability to something else. send it to me and I will put it somewhere right before the Draco Lich.
|
Maharet is great, the goodies have the holy avanger and baddies have this one. In in fact they are all great weapons, but how do you plan to train your mage in long swords?
Thinking about this, i've come up with one but i have no ideal how to make weapons: a throwing dagger that when changed to use in used melee becomes a two handed sword, but still uses the dagger proficiency. |
How about the Moonblade, which the necromancer Xan wielded in BGI? You can actually find it in Shadowkeeper. I think it was just a plain old longsword. But Lilacor talks them up like it's better than he is now. How hard would it be to make a sword for mages only that granted them proficiency?
|
Xan the invoker's Moonblade gives him 20% fire restance and drops his armour class by 1. and i think it used short short proficiency but he was an npc and they occasional ingore the rules. this sword of Rikards would be for his Necro pc, and would have to obey them. it would be simpler to make a sword and make it use a different slot ie staff mace.
|
I'll see about a moonblade. I'm trying to make well-balanced weapons with good history and authentic stats so we'll see what happens.
|
Yes Secret Agent Mario Estacio
I want hese to be mage weapons But be silent none of this may leave the room Be Wewy wewy quiet I'm hunting wabbits hehehehehehehehe So far for elmer Fuddddddddd |
About the Dark Gift, did you take the vampire's name from the book Queen of The Damned or from Ravenloft?
Do you know if the name Maharet comes from older texts about undead? |
I almost forgot
The history of both weapons Jaize - The Life Sucker +4 Tavrano used to be an apprentice of the legend necromancer Rikard and during his time with Rikard he sadly died and was send to The Negative Energy Plane. He could'nt bare see Rikard with his new apprentices knowing it should have been he who was to become the successor of Rikard instead of Kaël Years after his dead he returned to the Primairy Plane as a lich and saught (ehm well this you have to spell right it has soemthing to do with see) Revenge on Rikard for letting him die After a horrifying (again you have to spell right) battle Tavrano was send back to the negative Energy plane But Rikard had to find a way to make sure Tavrano would never agian had the desire to return to the Primairy Plane Thus this sword was created to please Tavrano It has a permanite connection to the negative Energy plane. The Weapons sucks a victimes life force to the negative plane directing it as energy to Tavrano. To show his gratitute for this Tavrano Directs this power back to the wielder in the form of HP Ramanish - The Psycotic Dreamer+3 This Weapons containes the very essence of the Demi God Telahan - God of Useless evil thingies (i really gotta make up a better name for that) Telahan's Physycal form couls not be destoyed by Rikard But Rikard did defeat him in a Mental battle capturing His very soul in this sword - Ramanish |
Well seeing as how Katana and Wakizashi are supposed to be used together (this was how Samurais wielded them??) You could make a pair of swords that were amazing when wielded together...
However on second thought this would be amazingly specific i.e the character using these would have to be proficient in Katanas, Wakizashi/Ninja-to and two weapong style... Just a thought tho |
Scorpio, Maharet is from the Anne Rice book. I thought of making a katana called Maharet and a Wakizashi called Mekare. Both would've been vampiric blades. That way I'd get over the problem of making one or the other too powerful.
Let me think about this some more. |
How about making Moonblades for different mages in the game usable only for that character????
Like Aerie will get Aerie's moonblade of protection, which will give her both extra priest and mage spells and add AC or resistances (as she is not a fighter); Nalia's moonblade of the heart, which might add +3 strength, and give her daily Tenser's Transformation, since she is fairly strong; Imoen's moonblade of the night, which provides +60 stealth to make her the thief she could've been; Xan's moonblade, sets dexterity to 18, gives negative planes protection (the thing that he can't get from the amulet of power). Then a PC moonblade as well.... |
Hmmm the 2 weapons might be an overkill....Jaize is fine i think but the other one is too powerfull
What i found that there arent any good spears or axes...sure you got spear of whilting and the combo of frostweaver and stonefire that i personally use on korgan but you need a +5 or atleast +4 axe and some with spear...i like your mage weapon man cuz when i play mage i find that i can cast stoneskin protection from magical weapons etc etc that makes me totally immune to physical and magic damage for like 60 secs almost and then i got nothing to infilct damage with cuz a good weapon on a good char can do around 10x the damage to one target then spells. Even when you get high level spells like horrid whilting it just doesnt measure up to a buffed paladin with Carsomyr. Also you cant go everboard with mage weapons cuz that would unbalance the classes. Sorry if i sound bitchy man...just failed math and im not too happy great work on the add on man its kool..keep it up |
More like Nalia's Moonblade of Whinging. Automatically casts emotion: hopelessness on whoever it strikes. Besides, moonblades are elven weapons of legend, not toys for any mage that happens to want one.
|
Armisael, you took the words right out of my mouth. moonblades can only be drawn by elves (or half-elves) who are worthy. Nalia's cursed moonblade of whinging sounds good though!
|
Was Xan a half elf though? I thought he was human (like nearly everyone in BG I). Assuming you can design an add-on that responds different depending on who is in the party, there could be a quest to obtain a Moonblade (i.e., rescue the wizards).
|
Xan was an elf from Evereska, the brother or that elf guy in Icewind Dale.
|
Armisael!
hehe that was a good one! Well, these discussions around weapons are hard, how to balance, not to powerful not to weak etc.. A way to make a powerful weapon less powerful is to make some considered drawbacks with it, like that demonsword i mentioned earlier in this thread, itīs good, maybe to good but in that campaign they needed it and well some problems were found when the thief suddenly raged and almost killed the cleric in the party.. Such things make it more doubleedged and thus can add some spice into usoing it. Like the Vorpal Blade, you are not alone in wanting it, a powerful enemy wants it to and will make attempts to take it back. A new campaign I been sketching on will in fact be about one sword and one specific character who more or less will be partly under the control of the sword, he will be mighty but will also be put into some dilemmas. Classic little things... Well I for one thinks that if a mage wants to wield a 2h sword, let him. Elves have the ability to gain +1 to hit with longswords and shortswords as well as with all bows except x.bows. Then why would an elven mage suddenly decide to go with a club and darts instead? The staff is a recenable choice, cheap always available and good for so much more than just fighting. And by the way, noticed someonementioning the Katana and Wakizachi thing, they were never duel wielded. The katana was the samurais soul and fighting sword, most techniques (ye ye spelling) are based on a single weapon consisting on mostly twohanded wielding and some performed with one hand. it is not a small light sword might I tell you. The Wakizashi were the honour sword, for seppuku and for emergencies and for some ceremonies. If to fight with two weapons they used two Katanas and few did. I also saw a thread about someone who questioned the right about a katana doing a D10 in damage, well the Katanas are great weapons and are sharper than most weapons of their time. A fantastic craftmanship. |
hmm.. a halbred weapon would be nice right?? or a dagger?? i only saw one ... the wave thingie ... but i didnt think it was even nice...
could you create new weapons?? like ninja stars or numjuks or a fighter staff but something else?? ... how bout a pole?? |
