Ok, I'm not worried about one character being boring or not. Sometimes, I think people just talk to much without saying anything meaningful anyway. What I am concerned with is who is better for the group? Valygar or Minsc and his stupid hamster BOO! Yes, stupid but funny sometimes. Just your honest opinions please. Thanks a lot.

Rikard T'Aranaxz 01-30-2001 03:21 PM

I think Valygar is better
Becoz he a Katana fighter
and he has his own katana
Minsc
well
he's not that good but he is more fun

Valygar is better. Rikard said it. Minsc is for comic releif and not much else. Oh yeah maybe to take the damage that you don't want to take for yourself.

Depends on what weapons you specialized in. If you did katanas, then stick with Minsc. For all other weapons, take Valygar.

Rikard T'Aranaxz 01-31-2001 12:46 AM

What make you think he;s specialistin weapons?
why can't he be a mage?
tell me GW

Rikard is indead correct. In this game where the above mentioned question is being asked I am a mage. Thank you all for your input.

I disagree!! If you took Valygar instead of Minsc then you're losing out!

Think about all the tough nuts in the game later on like Firkraag and stuff. How are you kidding me that that stupid stalker with such crappy AC can take on these demons without getting KO'ed? Okay okay, he dual wields katanas, he can use Celestial Fury. So what?

I think Minsc is waaaaaaaaay, better: he's funny, strong and you can equip him with full plates to boost up his AC. And if you're thinking that he has bad weapon abilities then equip him with WARBLADE+4 or ELVEN COURT BOW+3 and watch him rip....!

G.W. 01-31-2001 04:01 PM

Warblade--isn't that not usable by good characters?

Valygar wields the number 2 katana in the game. The celestial fury is probably one of the top three weapons in the game. Valygar is one prof away from being a dual wield master. Valygar wears one of the best chainmails in the game. All he needs is one piece of strength equipment and you have more of these to go around than dexterity items, which Minsc needs to be effective as an archer. Valygar should not be the first tank in your party though (although he fulfills it quite well).

Ohh Minsc with the Warblade was inflicting 54 damage on a critical hit

G.W. 01-31-2001 04:23 PM

Valygar backstabs for 54+ with the celestial fury and stuns.

Valygar gets hurt too much in combat and isnt as hardy as Minsc.
Besides Minsc is so much more fun !
Anyway Minsc doesnt need dexterity bonuses to be a great archer, the elven court bow or the heartseeker give him any bonuses he might need.My mind was made up when Minsc saved my party from a lich all by himself.
I had lost Keldorn and Jaheira and my PC dispatched in a maze, only a heavily wounded Aerie and Jan left along with Minsc.Minsc whips out the heartseeker, triggers special ability, BA BAM !!!Arrows of piercing flying with unerring accuracy, and in a few seconds down goes the lich.WhOOOO Hooooo!!!The lich hardly had a chance .I have him paired with lilarcor (I figure if he talks to a hamster he can weild a very conversational sword!).BTW, where can I find the warblade it sounds cool???
But to the point it depends what your party make up is anyway. If you dont have an archer and you figure you need one, and you already have a frontliner or two Minsc might be the way to go.However if you already have a competent archer, and at least one powerful tank then why not play with Valygar? That dual wield is kickass and two Katanas? How cool is that?!!
But more to the point which character do you like more?Too much is made of going with really strong characters etc.when you should factor which character you like more and are more fun to play with even if they aent as strong.Which character would your PC like more more, how would your party get on with them etc.are other considarations too.
I like Minsc alot, and he gels well with my group beside I dont want to get rid of Aeries protector(he wouldnt like it either).I know I know I'm a softie ..lol!

Not taking personality into account, Valygar is hands down better. Better with the long bow, does more damage with some strength enhancing equipment (gloves of ogre power for example, which you don't have access to unless you have him in the party), better use of proficiencies.

RAISTLIN 01-31-2001 09:34 PM

I don't have alot of high end equipment like you are talking about on this thread. I do have some decent equipment and some of the items mentioned (bows). I have only had valygar in the party for a short time but still have an opinion. I like minsc only for the fact that he seems to last longer and does do a great deal of damage. This may not be a fair test/comparison as the first real encounter they have together is fighting the shadow dragon. Incidentally they are both getting their asses handed to them. I guess i will see who survives the conflict as i have allready determined that my party will sustain some serious losses here.

"Hell Lich" Wah 01-31-2001 09:41 PM

let's put it this way: In terms of skill and expertise I think that both men are equal.

(Though minsc's AC is better!!...heh heh)

And if I had a penny everytime that Valygar made a joke or spoke out loud instead of muttering:

I'd wouldn't have enough to buy meself a pint of Evermead!!

Charisma is important to me...very!!
