Does anybody know what the ending movie of BG2 mean? Especially the people around the table? What are they talking about?
It's strange that I can't hear any voice..

satan 01-05-2001 08:50 PM

maybe thier harpers,
deciding about the fate of the bhaal child

Ramon 01-06-2001 12:10 AM

Hi Memnoch,

I did not consider Bocaj's complaint to be flaming, either, he just chose neither the right place for it nor the right person to target it at.

So long,

Ramon

What's the position of harper in D&D world?
Do they have enough power to decide the fate of Bhaal child?

Khanar Tor'vel 01-06-2001 01:45 AM

Harpers? With the symbol of Bhaal set in the middle of their table? I always thought they were Cowled Wizards. Just don't ask me why though. I don't know why. They just reminded me of them for some reason. hehe

Armisael 01-06-2001 01:55 AM

There was a post about this a while ago. Nobody's certain about who they are. I believe they're worshippers of Bhaal, mainly because they have Bhaal's seal in the center of their table. There's some prophecy that if all of Bhaal's children die, their souls manifest and Bhaal is reborn, so they're worried over the protagonist's knack for staying alive.

bocaj 01-06-2001 02:46 AM

I don't know who they are but this post should have had SPOILER posted on it.

Ramon 01-06-2001 07:28 AM

Bocaj,
why should a thread already labelled "The ending movie of BG2" need any more spoiler warnings ?

So long,

Ramon

Ramon 01-06-2001 07:49 AM

And Indy,

there is an audible dialogue in the final scene where the hooded figures sit around the table. The essential part is that one of them
tells the others not to worry since the fate of the Bhaal-spawn is already determined anyway and he/she is doomed to die. Well, something along these lines. Also, I got the German edition. So, in the English version they might be talking about the physical attributes of the latest Playmate of the Year. Who knows ?

So long,

Ramon

Indy, go to your options button and turn your movie volume up.

Ramon, I understand bocaj's feelings about spoilers. In this particular case the title is obvious, but it's good to know that someone other than me cares about spoilers. I PERSONALLY don't give a shit because i pretty much know the game inside-out but others who haven't can be spoiled and it can be REALLY irritating. At least Indy's title acts as a warning for people who haven't finished the game to avoid it so good on you Indy!

BTW people are lucky that Ziroc and the board community (except probably me) are pretty easygoing about this. If you accidentally release a spoiler in the BGDungeon you will get flamed a million times, if you intentionally do it you will be turfed out within the hour.

marc1ace 01-06-2001 10:15 AM

The feeling I get from those people at the end, is that they are all children of Bhaal. Unlike Sarevok who took the evil pathway and you(well at least I played it this way) who took the good path, they are truly neutral in nature. They try to avoid the use of their devine power and keep a close look at all others who might have such a heritage that could disrupt the balance.

Although this is just my stupid idea, I think that these people will be geving you some problems in BG III (if it comes out at all) saying that although you use your power for justice, it still is disrupting the balance.

Hi Memnoch,

I agree with you that people on this board are not always as careful about spoiling as they should be. I, myself, have only begun to
post recently and tink, that I have been quite careful so far. Avoiding spoilers is a way of being considerate, thinking of what others might want or rather not want, but it sure is no excuse for anybody else to stop thinking themselves and putting a minimum of effort into trying to avoid to be spoilt if that matters to them. Otherwise one could hardly dare to post anymore, since almost anything can be a possible spoiler for someone out there. And putting a spoiler warning at the start of every post would just have an inflationary effect that would render the warnings useless pretty soon. That was the point of my reply to Bocaj, since this thread just seemed like about the least adequate place for a complaint about spoilers to me.

To me, the best way to avoid spoiling is labelling the threads properly in such a way
that it is easy to determine to which sections/aspects of the game they are related. Just like this one. Apart from that spoilers should be reserved to posts or parts of posts that for some reason depart from the main topic of the thread.

By the way, flaming as a reaction to spoiling
would just quickly destroy what most members agree is the most valuable asset of this board: the very friendly atmosphere.

Well, somehow I seem unable to do short posts.

So long,

Ramon

Memnoch 01-06-2001 11:25 AM

I think we agree with each other, Ramon. And my posts are long, too so don't worry.

I didn't think bocaj's response was a flame though. He wasn't abusive at all. If he had called Indy a f*cking idiot (which I'm glad he didn't) that would be a flame.

Agree also that anything could be construed as a spoiler for anyone else. I think though that a TRUE spoiler is a thread/post that reveals something important to the plot/storyline of the game. think of it like a movie plot twist or a movie ending. little things about the movie won't worry you if you find out about them so no need to put spoiler warnings there. People have to use their judgment!

In any case, this thread didn't need a spoiler warning, I'm just supporting bocaj's views on spoiler etiquette.
