Now I know we have had a thread for what people think the most unused char class is, but I would like people to post the strengths and weaknessess, from their own experience, of the character that they are currently using.
|
Paladin - kick butt sword, heal spells, Strength 18/97, 18 Charisma, and all the chicks want me. Unfortunately, I can have too much fun ie killing people for fun, being downright mean to people, telling people off, and stealing. World-cosmic power, itty-bitty living space.
BK |
My present caracter is a Lawful Neutral Half-elf Conjuror Lv8 with str:11 Dex:17 Con:17 Int:19 Wis:11 Chr:13 26hp.I took the long way I finished Bg1 with him then I imported him to bg2 to see if there was a huge difference (sadly not much save the extra stats from the books). But with 19 int I can learn all spells without using potions to increace my int.

Ive played the game through several times, but am currently playing with the Archer Class. So far its great, although i think it's silly that an archer would need 18 strength to use a composite bow. Granted, they would have to pull back the bowstring, and that may be difficult, but i feel that if a 3 foot goblin can use them, i should be able to...on a sidenote, does this mean that ALL elves who use composite bows have 18 strength. God knows that elvenkind are raised to use a bow...
|
Currently playing a jester to prove to myself that it can beat the game.
Strengths: - chaos song makes it a hell of a lot easier to kill enemies. - funny! - makes u think tactics out a lot more, because he's not really a fighter or spellcaster Weaknesses: - had to change the entire way I played the game but it's really interesting, probably the most interesting character i've played so far |
I started out my first go at this game as a pure fighter class, whom possessed 18/49 str, 14 dex, 13 con, and a meazly 52 hit points! And this was after going well into act 2 and completing many a side quest.
Now I have abondoned that game and begun afresh as a Kensai with 18/67 str, 18 dex, 18 con, and 79 hit points. The hilarious thing is is that I have only escaped the first dungeon and cleared the circus quest with him. I have noticed that Kensai is synonymous with killing machine. I was really struggling with my old fighter, but so far my Kensai and his party have had not one difficult battle. And combining holy might with kai is, to say the very least, extremely potent. A good example of comparison is as follows. In a large battle with 5-6 opponents, my fighter would kill 2, maybe! 3. My Kensai will literlly go off and kill an archer, another archer, a mage, a warrior, and still have time to come and assist the group with the two fighters that they are handling and maybe even deal one of those a death blow! I am only wondering when and if I will find a powerful katana for my kensai, as he has 5 stars in katana proficiency. I also haven't decided whether or not to dual him as a kensai/mage or just stick with his kensai training, as I feel he just might live up to dad's rep as the master of murder. |
Don't worry, you will find a powerful katana, the second most powerful weapon in the entire game. I won't spoil you any more than that.
|
Played my first game as a Druid shapeshifter and liked the simplisity:
- no worrys about using the best armor(cant use armor) - not having to choose the right form for the right ocassion(only one choice) - Lots of nice spells. Drawbacks: - Cant use the best armor. - Greater werewolf was a bit disapointing. Is currently playing pure Kensai and am loving it. |
Currently playing a female Inquisitor named Alarra and have just reached the underdark.
(I wanted to play my own Inquisitor instead of using Keldorn.) I readily admit up front that I am playing with several downloaded items in my party. Strengths: The obvious Inquisitor talents... immunity to hold and charm. Really like the Inquisitor's innately powerful dispel magic ability!!! I love how it is so fast and so powerful!!! (Saved my butt against the underdark's Balor. The Balor had stunned 4 out of 6 of my party members. Alarra turned around and un-stunned them... then proceded to send that foul demon-beast back to the hell from which it came!!!) Alarra have the HA, but prefers to use longswords and a shield. Weaknesses: It'd be nice to have a little higher weapons skills. |
I am a elven male CLeric / Abjurer of both level 50
my stats : str : 10 con : 13 dex : 21 Int : 18 Wis : 19 Cha : 16 Stengths : becouse the cleric protectife spells , and the from the abjurer makes me a STRONG defender. Healing spells. cure poison and stuff like that. Weaknesses: May not use bows And Spears No Armour * No weopon spec .(I use cheats to get grand mastery with warhammers) * I where my armour of faith as well , I don't use my mage spells fery mutsh , only in very tught battles . |
For I forgot , High HP
|
I upgraded my wisdom to 21 !!!
|
I haven't tried all the classes, so I can't say that this is the best one, but it is so fu**king good!
The MONK! Strengths: By the time I got to the underdark my fists were doing more damage than any weapon in the game Immunity to poison Immunity to Charm Fists are +3 (eventually) Amazing speed Spell immunity (well.. not immunity but the resistance is so high that virtually no spells affect me) Natural AC is the best in the game Immunity to Normal Weapons (eventually) Quivering Palm! (instant death) Lay on Hands What other class can run into a den of vampires or mages and not get hit once? With a natural AC of -8, spell resistance at 70% (naturally), fists that do 1-20 dmg +3, 4 attacks/round, immunity to poison and charm. I can wade into just about any battle alone against even 6 or 7 mages or as many vampires and not get hit once. Against major bosses, use quivering palm and they're dead with one hit (providing they fail their saving throw) Weaknesses: Very low HP (at lvl 20, HP still under 80) Can't dual class Very weak at beginning of game due to lack of armor But how can you ignore all those bonuses? They are a 1 man wrecking machine. -"Easy" |
my necromancer is level 16 and is
str:9 dex:18 Cons:16 Int:18 Wis:18 Cha:14 And he abslutly kicks ass Wiht abi-dalziims horrid willting and delayed blast fireballs. with Abi-dalziims he does about 60-100 dammge with failed save and 40-80 with delayed blast fireball and with protection from magic weapons and stoneskinn and spell turning and protection from energy nothing can tuouch him. He killed the all fallen paladins with one abi-dalzims and a fireball!, The only problem is he's pretty much "one-shot", He useally uses up all his spells in one big fight and has to rest before he can slaughter again. |
My assassin dualed to a mage:
str 18 dex 18 con 18 int 18 wis 13 cha 4 Advantage: Very good in the beginning with his assassin skill, and after you dualed him to a mage and get back the assassin skill he is still very good with his x4 backstabs and thieving skills so you can dump the other thief in your party. I killed 2 liches in Athlatka with his backstab. Later on though I never had any use of the backstabs, since he became a powerful mage. It is good though that I could use longsword and bow, when I didn't have any spell left to cast. He has high HP for a mage(70 in the beginning) and can fight as a thief. Disadvantage: While he was dualed he started at level 1 and couldn't use his thieving skills. I don't know if he got worse THACO the better mage he got, or if the monsters got better later in the game, because he didn't hit much with his sword (which made it impossible to backstab). |
Could someone explain to me how a sorcerer is different from a standard mage? I have read some threads and the book and am still vague on how his spells system differs.
|
well i am using a wizard slayer
str:18/49 dex:17 con:18 int:10 wis:10 cha:18 He is basically a bruiser and i have found that him very useful. the only problem was that I could not wear a helmet and i always got critically hit and i would have to run out of the fray. The answer to the Sorcerer question is that sorcerers gain spells by level innately they can't learn scrolls and stuff I just started the game with one so i am just now getting the hang of it. |
mage. (level 18 both rings and amutal for mor spells) no falts at all. my spells last for at least a five fights i've killed many a beast with could kill and others. morindans swords cut my foes to ribbions. and tense tranformtion after shgadow blade and stone skin made me as good asany fighter.
|
Im currently using a Kensai, and its only disadvantage is AC. If it was like the monk who like, is lowering AC as they level up.
|
Mine
Rikard T'Aranaxz (got a very nice bio on him) str 12 dex 16 con 15 int 20 wis 18 chr 8 AC 1 (where the f*ck is ring of Gaxx?) HP 43 ( and if got a fairy dragfon too) pro's great magic user great roll playing aspect nice to see a all blue mage (blue hair blue skin bleu clothing) neg's no illution spells (but hell we've got Edwin right?) ehm oh yeah can't use dak'kons zerth sword |
my current character is an archer(ranger kit) He has 18 str, 18 dex, 18 con, 9 char, 8 wis, 4 int.
although he has low wisdom and intelligence, he doesn't need it. he has five proficiencey points on long bow and a couple and long sword, just for a back up weapon in close combat. he has -4 THACO using Strong arm and 4 using adjatha the drinker. he has -4 armour too, he's got good armour though, made from the scales of the shade dragon. in short, he just sits back in the battle does 3 attacks per round and does 14 damage (average) with normal arrows. |
I'm playing Amaranth, an Avenger (Druid) and she's proved to be a whole lot of fun.
str 12 dex 16 con 16 wis 18 chr 15 The 6 mage spells I get, including web, LB, chaos, chain lightning and improved invis, which I can memorize multiple times thanks to being a cleric, plus my healing spells and the like make me the best spellcaster in the party. The shapeshifting abilities have also worked out very well: shifting into a Sword Spider allows me to serve as a 3rd fighter when needed, Salamander is less effective, but still has the firebreath. Negs: It's still a Druid! Only leather armor, but that's not too much of a disadvantage. |
I am playing a monk right now and well I can't really find any weaknessess just strengths like:
1.good ac with or without armor 2.high residence to every thing 3.moves fast 4.high number of attacks 5.gets stunning blow and quivering hand 6.really strong hand attacks oh just thought of some weaknessess: 1.can't use off handed stuff like shields and two swords 2.can't use a lot of weopons well thats about it I think. |
Mine, Kensai/mage.
Str. 18/97 Dex. 16 Con. 18 Int. 18 Wis. 10 Cha. 3 (ring ???) 18 I'm not whine, I'm fine. |
I hardly need to write here but my current character is a fighter, my third fighter incarnation actually. Just a standard fighter. Has Celestial fury and shield of harmony. also carries Crom Fayr. My only problem with him was I kept running off killing monsters just with him and didn't get enough use out of the rest of my group.

Mine is a ranger imported from NG 1 with 19 str and Dex weilding both Daystar and Adjatha the Drinker, which is a good HP restoring sword. Ring of Gaxx and ring of regeneration, boots of speed (Makes for a VERY fast attack speed while dual weilding)full dragon armor including helm, and gauntlets of weapon mastery. I just left the Asylum and right now I am maxed in exp after doing every quest and such I could find, and basically she doloed everything in the asylum. The rings and sword regenerate her life VERY fast so it saves a lot of time on sleeping since I never have to cast heal (UNLESS it's an extreme emergency). Plus she also has her figurine of WOndrous power (moon dog) which seems to be even more powerful than Drizzt's figurine of Guenhwyver since it has the ability to cure wounds three times a day, improved invisibility, a howl the frightens evil creatures, and true sight. I am proud to say that not one cheat has been used in making this character.

Human fighter-mage (12/15).
Strengths: - Fairly powerful in both melee and ranged combat - Never gets touched by conventional weapons - Good HP and saving throws, can wear helmets, shields and bracers (whee) Weaknesses: - Pain in the arse getting my fighter skills back - No eighth level mage spells - Looks like a moron with a helmet, a shield and no bloody armour : P |
Yeah do you guy that god of fire guy i was?
Kaël Raighen kensai/mage level 7-17 str 18/65 dex 16 con 10 int 18 wis 14 chr 6 (has to do with his bio) fire resistance 127% (thanx to rings) and Paithan (from Portal of death book) Half Elven Blade level 8 or 9 (haven't started *yet*) str 14 dex 16 con 11 int 18 wis 10 chr 15 And his lil' sister Aleatha Halfelven Conjurer str 12 dex 12 con 18 ( i think am not sure) int 18 wis 10 chr 8 |
i have a level 19-swashbuckler and must say that it´s the most potent character in BG2 i ever started a game with.
advantages:-thieving abilities -better combat abilities than other thieves -chaotic good...RULEZ!!! -doesn´t even need many HP´s -equipped with boots of speed, a swashbuckler is most effective (hit, run, hide) disadvantages:-no backstab(snif) -no heavy armor -if only i didn´t like jaheira that much, my party would be much more effective, but she´s a damn hard chick, isn´t she??? |
ok, here goes
. 1st character - Undead Hunter (Matthew Hopkins) - nice Armour Class, crap against dragons and beholders (didn't find the cloak of mirrors that time round) . 2nd character - evil half-orc Berserker (Slaughter Margin) - kicked everybody's butt. Berserking smacked down dragons (with Edwin as magical backup) - couldn't wear amulet vs level drain, so relied on clerics to keep the vampires at bay - berserk also stopped those irritating Imprisonment moments . 3rd character - elf Sorceror. weaknesses? naaah!! - well, maybe the highly Magic Resistant opponents - demons were a pain in the butt - very wipeout against enemy adventurer groups . 4th character - chicken fighter/magic-user/thief - got hit quite a few times earlier on. Hide in shadows doesn't work against demons, dragons, mist undead or gits with truesight. needed backup taking on boss-level monsters throughout the game |
My current PC is a pure ranger class. Half-Elf
(I also rolled for almost an hour to get these stats, bloody crazy...) Str 17 Dex 18 Con 18 Int 14 Wis 14 Cha 14 Chaotic good Racial enemy : demonic Lvl 12 so far, up to spellhold Positives: Dual weilding is the best, the best, and again, the best (Only rangers start with two in dual already, that makes 8 starting profciencies!) Got a few handy spells Stealth is great for a first attack The item you get from your stronghold quest is really great. Many advantages of a fighter Negatives: I don't think they have any !http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ------------------ Yes indeed... |
Just finished soloing my elven Archer.
He is a tiny god http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...sfiring_v1.gif The fantasy equivalent of a Marine sniper. Finished hell without losing a hitpoint. (see my other thread) disadvantages. - At level 29, I just wanted to end the game. It was no longer fun. I'm using the exp cap again... ------------------ http://publish.hometown.aol.com/tobb...s/rudedawg.jpg http://www.phpshop.net/images/bg2guy/cov09.jpg The RudeDawg Known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes and my girlfriends, Pamila and Phil |
Just wanted to tell that I also had a Wizard Slayer and I have never had problems with him wearing helmets. In fact, the Vhailor's one saved my life several times.
RudeDawg, that is exactly why I kept the cap http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ------------------ Mishik's Place |
I am having great funhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif as a simple mage. What I like about mage is that you have an array of options for each situation. I don't think stats are very important for a mage, except of course intelligence. Mage doesn't need mucho hitpoints or strength, that is, when you are not playing solo.
I am thinking of starting a new game playing an evil knevil, taking only Korgar and Viconia in my party. Probably be playing a mage again, or maybe a sorceror. |
Currently playing BG1 to carry into Bg2. Using a pure class fighter( yes another one, what's it to ya). Putting past experencies to good use.
stats: Strength- 18(99) Dexterity- 18 Constitution- 19 (found tome) Intelligence- 8 Wisdom- 8 Charisma- 12 has four proficiencies in blunt weapons and uses the warhammer +2 in preperation for using warhammers in BG2 as I hear there's this fairly powerful one in Bg2..... ------------------ Just when you thought it was safe to visit this board. |
Have 3 characters that I am having the most fun with right now. Female half-orc pure fighter, female Monk (so cool!) and my absolute fave -- Skizzer the Skald! He is a blast. He is level 16 (I think) right now and his song gives +4 THAC0 and Saving throws (unless I remember wrong) and we picked up the harp from Mekrath's altar in the Sewer that lets him confuse when necessary. His Lore value is unbelievable -- no spell slots needed by the mages to identify anything.
I would not want to solo a skald, but he sure is handy for Minsc and Keldorn and the gang. And he is getting pretty serious with Jaheira right now, too. He has it all! |
Well, I played a halfelf Fighter/Thief in BGI and he was outstanding, not so great in BGII though, my favorite now is a human Kensai/Mage.
Started with a Kensai, let her reach tenth level, dualclassed to a Mage. Equip her with Staff of Magi, Spear of Piersing and bracers of defence AC4. Result: Depending on memoriced spells. Either: A Mage with Incredible hitpoints, able to defendheself thanks to the kensai AC bonus and able to attack as well. or: An allmost invulnerable fighter thanks to stonskin, mantel, spellturning etc, with a few tricks up her arm, all from magic missile to disturb hostile mages to Khelbens warding whip to get through tuff defences. Exellent character with no greater weaknesses i can discern. |
