First time I played the game, during the cult quest, out of the blue, Minsc just killed Jaheira!
They had had no discussions whatsoever, no bad words during the game, had not been recently charmed or dominated. He just began striking her, she did not react at all
Is this fight one of the possible ones in the game?

Jahiera sux???!!!! I'll agree that Valygar's a lot better than most give him credit for.

Any romance aside, I far prefer Jahiera to Viconia. Jahiera is far more useful in melee given that she's a fighter/druid. Viconia's stuck as a pure cleric (thus somewhat limited in melee ... 1 attack per round, only proficient level weapons proficiencies). I must admit that my style of combat tends to lean towards the physical. I use my spell casters to support the tanks. Jahiera fits into my style quite well.

Sure, Vic's a great cleric, but I've grown to like seeing my undead victims turn into flying chunks of meat. That's the problem with evil clerics ... they just can't get the job done!!! Yeah, they can do a good job of charming the undead. But I'm an undead HUNTER, not an undead CHARMER!!!

Your on drugs. Valygar is by far the dog of my party. No matter what I do this man has seen more Harper renewal spells than any other character in my party. He sucks big time.

Valygar is only a good NPC is he's used properly. He's not meant to be a frontline tank. I've used him as an archer/4th fighter/stealthy, backstabbing mage assassin very successfully.

When you put the Celestial Fury in his hands and play him as he's meant to be role-played (he is a Stalker, not a Berzerker, after all), Valygar can be a death-dealing machine.

If you play him the same way that you'd play Minsc or Korgan, Valygar will be calling MEDIC!!!!! far too often.

If Valygar had any sort of detect traps then he would be worth keeping around for what you suggest. A good thief though can do all you suggested and he can pick pocket and find traps.

I use Valygar as a second string fighter. He throws a few arrows in then charges in on the flank and hits the enemy after the enemy has fixated on one of my front line fighters.

I could keep him back firing arrows the whole time but I dont unless there is a mage to disrupt.

Why?

I try to play logically and by the rules. If an archer was to fire volleys of arrows off at two fighters in the distance he has equal chance of hitting either combatant. There is no real way to target just one guy when two are so closely together.

But that is just me playing my way, the game itself doesnt care about this. Just like how the game never considers where missed missle weapons end up.

Ok, I'm a Minsc hater - no regrets. So I left him for life feebleminded in his iron casge with a skeleton warrior for company!! On the other hand JAHERIA IS OK!! Do not underestimate her - she is one tough nut to crack with proper armour and weapons.

And finally - Valygar? hmmmmmmm...............well:

I used him to get into the sphere and told him to piss off, (tough, that's life!!)
And I think that he is so boring - you might as well kill him anyway.

(Which is what I did!!)

Valygar is my main tank
and he chops most enemy's to sushi in 2 hits

he came out with 20% of the kills and 28% of the XP gained through the game
only overclassed by Edwin and me (edwin got more kills - 27%/18% Me 32%/35%)
No one wield katana's like he does

And you don't have Clerics to fight
you have cleric to do cleric things
i don't see jeheira cast 3 fingers of death
to be honest i don't see jaheira cast any

Druid sux becoz of their leveling up XP needed
i mean what use is a level 14 character against a lich?

And to be very clear even my dagger wieldin Mage has 2 attacks pre round

If you put Jahiera and Valygar in a room with Minsc he would tear the sh*t out of them. That and the fact that valygar would wine about jahiera using magic. They both suck

It's a good thing for you guys that Yoshimo can't set his traps while there's enemies around or he'd be able to wipe out all the other NPC's without them knowing it. That's just my opinion, but with the proper armor and armed with the Celestial Fury, IF you make it past his 5X backstab multiplier, you may get a few good hits in but he'd win in the end.
I firmly believe that he could make it through just about any dungeon/quest on his own. Hide in shadows, find out where your enemies are, set some traps a distance away, backstab. If the enemy lives, or there are more than 1 of them you lure them back to your traps and they're history.

However, this is neither here nor there cause we seem to be discussing Jaheira, Minsc and Valygar. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

Firstly, Valygar is alright. But he's the most boring character in the game. He never says anything, never does anything. It seems like he's travelling around with you just for the hell of it.
Viconia is the best cleric in the game. The keyword here is cleric. Viconia isn't a druid. Druids get spells that make clerics flinch, and vice versa. Jaheira is a fighter/druid, emphasis on the fighter, why does everyone forget this? Give her the hill giant girdle. With iron skins and a naturally high AC she's one of your frontliners, Rikard, and the best mage disabler to boot, not to mention her summons.
As for Minsc, he's a great character. All he needs is something that'll give him a mind shield. You don't need to waste a strength booster on him since he's already got the highest strength in the game, and he's the only ranger in the game who can berserk. Not to mention the fact that he's funny as hell.

I agree with Armisael. I wonder though on why Viconia has this superior leap to madness when she wears armor? Her AC jumps like hell. I got her down to a low -13 before, and my Paladin could only get -9? Why is that?

with me I just don't like valygars dialogue because he probably has my favorite portrait in the game. With jahiera she just annoys the heck out of me but she is pretty useful.

AHHH HELL, they are just fodder for my mages that's all. I send anyone with no magic to the front line and if they die well I'm not burying them. Minsc is great so is Valygar they are great at blitzing throw a haste on them and give them healing potions if Valygar wanted to sneak about his AC wouldn't be -2 with that armor.

Only good druid is that shapeshifter whats his name? ahh I forgot but he is a tough mofo.

No, his werewolf form has the same amount of HP and AC as his regular form, except it hits harder. Then again, it doesn't get a boost to its THAC0, either, so it's useless.

Do you know the difference between creeping doom and insect plague? One does two damage every second, the other does one. Did you know that the only advantage of a pureclass druid over a multi- or dual-class is one level seven spell? No, obviously not...

Druids are awesome! You keep forgeting thee fact that they can shapchange! In the baby wyvern form i killed many things. Also the Black Bear and Brown Bear are very strong and can kill almost anything (Like for instance 6 vampires)

Here we go! Another character slag off thread! There's no right or wrong in these arguments because it comes down to individual playing styles and personalities. 'Try them all' is my philosophy. Over the break I've been playing a Jester for a change and decided to use my pet hate Minsc, and now I think even he's ok (as much as I hate to admit it).

Also lets quantify stuff too. Do we hate the stats or dialogue or portrait of the respective character?

Aah who cares.... I'd hate to think as humans we're as intolerant of each other as we are computer 'personalities'.

Yes, Viconia has more spells at the experience cap than Jahiera. However, as I and others have stated before, a lot of each person's preferences are dictated by their individual combat styles.

If you are heavy into combat spellcasting, then maybe Viconia's the cleric for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a more physical style, then perhaps you'll prefer Jahiera's superior fighting skills.

As I've said before, I prefer the latter and like the mix of might and magic that Jahiera brings.
