just got the character editor SK and frankly the only thing that I want to edit are the attribute scores of the chr files to near perfect ones(beats hitting the reroll button hundreds of times). However these attribute scores may actually change other attributes like maybe HP and the computer might not make the adjustments automatically for it. So are there any ways to ensure that everything accurately follows the edited attributes?

Just change whichever attribute scores you want to change, and the system will do the rest.
Oh, and if you use Shadowkeeper, that's cheating. Not that there's anything wrong with that, the whole point is to enjoy the game. |
Cheating????? Not necessarily. I used it to correct a mistake that just saved me replaying about 3 days of game. I knew nothing of the game content and distributed my skill points horribly. I just deducted 2 from one skill and placed them on another. I don't 'feel' like I cheated.
|
Depends on what yer definition of cheating is Magnus...
|
i dont know about you but i use shadowkeeper for one perpose only:
cause i hate irenicus dungeon, its soo boring i have a general perpose save after that dungeon and from there i will start my new games changing my main char with shadowkeeper. |
I know, I know... I'm trying to maintain my lawful good status, so I rationalize it as a correction rather than a cheat. Had I only added the 2 points where I needed them, I would definitely merit the cheater label, but I deducted them from where I put them previously. (I removed 2 points from Axe and put them on 2 handed style) I didn't realize, (in my haste to start playing), that there were styles! or that without selecting one, you were seriously an underachiever! Again, all rationalization, but I feel OK about it, and I don't like to cheat.
|
I think changing any mistake you made is legit. For example, if you gave Minsc proficencies in two-handed weapon style and realized you really should've put one in flails, I don't think that's cheating to take away the proficiency and put one in flails. Or if you sold an item like the pommel and wanted it back, and deducted the gold you got for it.

I'd say increasing all your stats to eighteen instead of actually rolling for them is cheating. Especially since the highest roll I've ever heard of was ninety-four or something.
|
I rolled an 89 once in Baldurs Gate,(my stats now total 91 with the 2 tomes I used) but in Icewind I rolled a 91!
|
I didnt consider adding a bag of holding to my inventory and deducting 3,000 gp cheating. It seemed a fair market price and didnt effect the challenge of the game. I also changed sorcerer spells and proficencies evenly, again no effect in game play accept I enjoyed it more and had what I wanted. Cheating, in my book destroys game balance, taking the challenge and thrill of accomplishment out of it. Power to modifying your characters to correct mistakes or swap proficencies if it makes you happy
|
If I would have known about the bag of holding, I would have been tempted to get it as well. I picked it up somewhere in the later stages of the game. It would seem like pretty standard fare for an adventuring party. It was quite a relief to be able to take more of the things I wanted to have....just in case. I'm kinda glad I didn't know, because it was so cool to get one. That's the scary thing about cheating, if you give yourself all the cool stuff, or buff your characters to invulnerable status, what do you have to work for? What do the rewards for your efforts entail? My favorite part of the game is checking out the cool new stuff I find/win/steal in a quest.
Even though I have shadowkeeper, I spend hours trying to roll up a good character. Again, I get a charge when I get an excellent roll. |
I agree with you magnus. I added that bag of holding the second time I played. The thrill of finding it the first time is what inspired me to add it early when I played again. and when you have two, you get twice the inventory accessible from either one!
|
Best roll I ever got personally was ninety. Still trying, though; maybe one day I'll have incentive to start my character over.
|
really simple. makesure you've edited balder.ini to enable debug mode/cheat mode, and press
cntrl+shift+8 all stats are set to 18. since this is a function of the game itself, this is stable. got this and other fun cheats in ironworks cheats section |
That's not exactly what I'd call a legitimate roll. : P
|
Who cares if you cheat anyway? The whole point is to have a good game and to enjoy it. I once soloed IWD with a character with most stats at 25, plus 95% magic resistance, hacked myself a godsword, I wanted to be a god's avatar and kick everyone's ass. Everyone cheats at some stage; it's the Bhaalblood within us.
|
I have to agree with Mumbock, Its all about enjoyin the game. I myself have not cheated with
an editor, but I did read on part of a walkthrue, and I myself consider that more cheating than adding a point or two in a editor. But, its about enjoying the game, its not about how you do it, just enjoy it and have fun. Btw, you know its very boring sitting with internal audit! Shit, but the best part is, I get to visit the nice ladies working in the Dutch Department. |
I couldn't care less if people cheat. It's when they try to justify it to me that I start to get shitty.

Thanks for the support, Zerphyr!!!!!!

Memnoch (or Mumbock),
I think people may have taken me too literally. I don't like to cheat BEFORE I complete the game. I just finished a couple of nights ago and now plan to try a small party, maybe 3 characters. I will probably use SK to design my companions, but will play my main man straight up. I stil don't like the word "cheating" for this. I prefer to call it modification for maximum enjoyment. I DO consider it "cheating" if you have to modify things or teleport to locations you can't get to because you are unable to solve the game. I would feel like Sh** if I couldn't beat the scenario as it was designed. That, for me, is cheating. And even that is OK if it doesn't bother the player. I sure don't care if anyone does. I just hope they play a chaotic alignment. (not lawful) |
To cheat or not to cheat...that is the question...whether tis nobler to...oh who gives a good $#@$@^%. PLAY the game and love it. Going with three is a great experience...just don't forget the Letter Q on the keyboard.
