Do any of you actually listen to music while playing BG2 and if so, what kind of music do you like best? (or if you don't listen to anything, then what music would theoretically be your ideal BG2 soundtrack?)
For me, during battles Orff's Carmina Burana works really well (Wagner would probably also have a nice effect) and other than that I sometimes listen to dark wave or gothic music (Arcana, Raison d'etre) to capture the right sphere while playing I know this is the second sore excuse for a poll I've started this evening, may it serve as evidence that I'm really very very bored today |
I usually have the sound on but at times not and then its....Black Sabbath/Ozzy...
|
Well. i dont listen while im playing, i like the in game music that comes on occasioanaly, but if i did, it would be :
Ultima Thule :Ragnarok! Blind Guardian : Nightfall in middle-earth (yeah i now i know) Slayer (if im feeling bad muhaaa) Iced Earth Emperor ( these guys are bril. death metal. the nordic feel is excellent.) Oh and Conan the Barbarian soundtrack! It absoulutely kicks a$$!! |
The music in the game is quite good for a game soundtrack. However, if we stray from that, then I usually go with Holst's: The Planets, specifically Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. I also like to listen to Barber's Adagio for Strings in G Minor (you may recall it from "Platoon")and ANY theatrical music by Danny Elfman (Batman, The Simpsons, Pee Wee Herman, etc...)whilst chunking up those nasties. Quite the effect to shoot off a series of sequencers and have Mars playing in the background. Thrilling!

Hmmm...I have this theory that there are a lot of people who play RPGs/BG2 who listen to metal or at least rock music. I'm wondering if this is true?
|
Ode to Joy, definitely. Yes, I may be sick.
|
I cant imagine that... Rpg and heavy mettal or rock music? If there are any people out there, who really practise this thing, then only a few. It just doesnt fit together. This kind of music is for action or shooting games acceptable, but rpg? No, i personally cannot imagine that...
|
I think that is pretty true, I listen to that kind of music anyway.
so du i, halooo (.) (.) ) ( ( y ) ------------------------------------this art work is not mine aleks who is sitting next to me did that. good music is. smashing pumkins (old stuff) naked agression, nirvana, D.A.D. and aleks says metallica metallica metallica metallica metallica. but that is mostly him not me. |
Oh forgot to say that carmina burana rocks! I use though the game music, which unfortunately is not very loudth. Especially the music in the sphere, this stronghold for mages, is wonderfull. But its only about 40 sec . If you want more BG2 music i suppose to search in napster for it.

Personally I listen to the in-game music as I like the enviromental audio and the NPC conversations, but maybe I am sad. I think the music is also excellent and appropiate, but just to confirm your darkest fears Melusine, I too like rock music, but then again my age is a good excuse for that.
|
Uhhm midnightforce... there are metal bands, and there are metal bands.... If you listened to Q2 music during Baldurs Gate, I would think you were a sad bastard. But some metal groups genre is called "Epic Metal" "Power Metal" "Gothic Metal" Epic metal is even set in fantasy worlds after tolkien etc. Blind guardian has lots of instrumenal songs, that are just like the baldurs gate songs. Its just when itsa battle you hear the revving off the electric guitar!
We are not talking about populaer metal bands like pantera here (yuck) Emperor are really good with moody gothic/dark/nordic metal (would go with icewind dale) and there are many bands that are really fantasy orientated |
I love to listen to rock & roll when i play. I've been on a jethro tull kick and i find it to be excellent listening for this. i can imagine that metallica works well, too. i'd stay away from the soft pop and junk like that, too boring. Not really hack-n-slash. but i can also see where classic orchestrated music goes quite well, i'll have to try some of your suggestions.

Uhhmm :
Demons & Wizards Kicks A$$!!!! It is one of my fav. albums of all time Hammerfall Angra (Angel's cry.....) How about Rhapsody? I know itsa bit corny at times, but its quite heroic power metal! Also Iced earth rule. Uhhm Metallica DEFINATELY do not work well, they are a bit crap lets face it (napster boohoo!) Only the earlier albums, with proper speed metall would work. Also Luca Turilli |
ooohh and you mustnt forget Rhapsody!

Now, as for me, it depends on what kind of mood I'm in.
Let's see: Picini's Tosca or if I'm feeling somewhat more amusing then Rossini's il Barbiere di Sevilla, violin concerts from Beethoven or, of course, Moonlight Sonata. Ahhhh.. the melancholy as you slaughter and work High Magic... then there is italina lute music for a little bit of the middle-ages mood. ..and of course ANTIPOP from Primus just for the sake of jarring contrast!!!!!! ..damn, anything from Primus. PS: I really didnt know that there was a whole bunch of half-RPG bands in the world.. that's kinda cool |
Led Zepplin "Battle of Evermore"
|
So you have some time, go to napster
and download: Blind Guardian : "Mirror Mirror", or "Time Stands Still" Rhapsody : "Emerald Sword" (p.s. they are a bit corny but still verry good) Ok youll be a happy bunny |
well I'm a manager at a music store so I have alot of music to choose from (love that employee discount!) Sometimes I just throw on a hardcore techno/trance compilation to complement the medivalish fantasy theme. Public Enemy, Paganini(killer violin composer), and Metallica are also nice for tough fights. They really get the blood going, although I'm pissed about Metallica's greedy napster perspective. Lately all I hear is the final fantasy nine music in the background cause my girlfriend plays that while I play bg2.
|
I like the in game music!
|
Just another image to prove my point )
Look at this guy riding Firkraag! Also this is a MUST download from napster ---- Emperor, and the song is called : "The Wanderer" |
Hmm, well Melusine, sorry to hear that you are boored at home, I usually get boored at work
i don“t listen to anything else than the music in BG2. The only time I listen to something when playing it is when I play Ut or Q3 or something, usually NIN or Henry Rollins. For BG2 though, I think you are on the spot with Orff and Wagner, definately. But I think that the guys who made the music for Baldurs gate, Icewinddale and BG2 have done a terrific job! Do you recognize the song from Copper Coronet anyone? Ever played Planescape Torment!, ever been to the bar in the first stage there! Hehe, listen good! |
